Trump: Newly Released FBI Texts are 'Bombshells'

President Trump on Wednesday highlighted newly released texts from FBI agents who suggested President Obama wanted updates on the Hillary Clinton email investigation.

President Trump on Wednesday highlighted newly released texts from FBI agents who suggested President Obama wanted updates on the Hillary Clinton email investigation.

"NEW FBI TEXTS ARE BOMBSHELLS!" Trump tweeted.

More

Fox News reported that texts between FBI agent Peter Strzok and FBI attorney Lisa Page included an exchange about preparing talking points on the Clinton email probe for then-FBI director James Comey to give to Obama, who "wants to know everything we're doing."

The pair also worked on special counsel Robert Mueller's team investigating Russia's interference in the 2016 election, and whether Trump's campaign was involved.

Some Republicans argue the new exchange is evidence that Obama was more involved in the Clinton email probe than previously known.

But the texts were sent in September, roughly two months after Comey announced he would not recommend criminal charges against Clinton for using a personal email server as secretary of State.

Comments

"Nevertheless, Trump and his GOP allies have seized on Strzok and Page's texts as proof that the Russia investigation is politically motivated.

The two criticized Trump in a series of previously released text messages during the 2016 campaign, but they were also critical of other politicians.

Democrats accuse Trump of using the texts to undermine Mueller's investigation, which is looking into whether the president obstructed justice as well as money laundering and any ties between Moscow and his campaign.

Trump latest tweet came 10 minutes after his daily intelligence briefing was set to begin, suggesting the president was running behind schedule."

Like #yomemo, these are more like duds than bombshells.

The desperation to undermine the Russia Probe only makes it's importance seem greater.

Were he as smart as he thinks he is, he'd never mention it.

Turdshells; high explosive diarrhea.

Page wrote to Strzok on Sept. 2, 2016 about prepping Comey because "potus wants to know everything we're doing."

Uniquely American.

Whoa, give us time to get over all the other "bombshells". And we still need to figure out how 3 million illegal Hillary voters were bussed in from Mexico.

THESE ALL CAPS ARE HUGE!!!!

I bet the GOP hope these bombshells hold up better than Obama wiretapping Trump Tower, Susan Rice illegally unmasking people, the Nunes memo and the Uranium one informant:

Justice Department Contradicts GOP Claims on Uranium One

Most importantly, Justice Department officials explained that this individual never provided any evidence or made any allegations regarding Secretary Clinton or the Clinton Foundation in any of their interactions with him.

They stated unequivocally: "at no point did [the individual] provide any allegation of corruption, illegality, or impropriety on Clinton, the Clinton Foundation, President Clinton, the Uranium One deal, or CFIUS." They also confirmed that there were "no allegations of impropriety or illegality" regarding Secretary Clinton in any of the documents they reviewed.

Yep, Gal, they are desperate for distractions.

I think Donnie would have been happier as a Fox Fake News host than as President.

"Deflection noted."

Not a deflection indicative of a pattern of previous GOP behavior.

Deflections and c/p tweets...

I like when Gal speaks for herself and doesn't serial c/p.

Why yes. We have noted that Trumps tweets are nothing but deflections.

Now if Congress would learn that too and ignore them they might actually get something done over there.

Asha Rangappa‏ @AshaRangappa_

Query: Was Carter Pages still in contact with members of the transition team? If so, it could explain why they are so freaked out and are willing to go to such lengths to discredit (and suppress?) anything that was obtain from the FISA – which would have covered that period

"Not a deflection indicative of a pattern of previous GOP behavior."

Fox News' latest ‘bombshell' on Obama and the FBI is a total fraud

It's simply not a plausible interpretation of the September 2, 2016 text exchange that Obama was seeking a briefing on the Clinton email investigation.

FBI Director James Comey closed the Clinton email investigation on July 5, 2016. It was not reopened until October. The same trove of text messages released Tuesday reveals that the FBI did not even become aware of additional emails on Anthony Weiner's laptop until September 28, 2016.

UPDATE (2/7, 4:32PM): The Wall Street Journal, speaking to associates of Strzok and Page, confirms that the texts refer to the Russia investigation not the investigation of Hillary Clinton's emails.

Text messages from 2016 show preparation to brief Barack Obama about Russia's interference in that year's election, according to associates of the FBI employees involved in the exchange, not, as a Republican senator suggested, meddling by the then-president in the federal Hillary Clinton email investigation.

GAL -

I appreciate the update, because Fox News has it in this context:

The conversation took place during an apparent lull in the Clinton email investigation, though it wasn't necessarily closed, either. In July 2016, Comey announced that Clinton was "extremely careless" in her handling of classified information on her private server but would face no charges. In late October, Comey announced that he would revisit the Clinton investigation.

It depends on what the definition of is is, especially to Fox News viewers unlike me. And those unlike me won't lend any credibility to anonymous associates of Strzok and Page.
