Pentagon Agency Can't Find $800 Million

The Defense Logistics Agency in the Pentagon has reportedly "lost track" of hundreds of millions of dollars that it has spent, according to a Politico report about an internal audit. Accountants from Ernst & Young are said to have conducted the audit and found the agency did not properly document more than $800 million in construction projects -- and it's only one of the audit's examples of a lack of receipts and unreliable financial tracking system. The documents, according to Politico, renew questions about whether the Department of Defense as a bureau can handle managing its $700 billion annual budget, which President Trump has called to greatly increase.

This story is reminiscent of how Shrub lost $6 billion cash during his Iraq debacle.

And Trump and the Republicans want to increase military spending while keeping all other spending at present levels. Why? Because profiteering on military spending is easy.

It's how Republicans implement jobs programs. Military keynesian economics.

An NIH grant, to allow a team to look for cures for disease for 5 years is about $1.8 million. This could allow 445 laboratories to put their time toward curing cancer or MS or heart disease. Whole teams of people for half a decade at a time.

The conspiracy crazy is strong in this one...

Yet another reason why it should be easier to fire Federal employees for basic incompetence.

I call for a total and complete shutdown of the DoD until we can figure out what is going on.

The DoD has been weaponized by the GOP. It is a disgrace, people should be ashamed to be associated with the US Military.
Fire them all!

Yet the Democratic Party claims that they never denigrate the military.

There are combat troops following orders, in harms way, patriotic, but ill informed. If you criticize the military you are accused of putting the troops in harms way or undermining the military objective, no matter how ill conceived that policy is. Its our leadership that puts our troops in harms way, usually for very immoral misguided reasons that backfire. We haven't declared war since WWII and haven't has a significant military victory since WWII. All we do is spread chaos and death in the name of unfettered Capitalism. War is a racket.

But the other side of this takes place domestically. No one could afford the first computer so the Pentagon bought them. These socialist programs are behind virtually all development of new technologies. The only exception is the transistor, developed by Bell Labs. But Bell Labs was funded by AT&T, which had enjoyed socialist monopoly operation of our telephone system, which guaranteed them the means to conduct expensive research.

We must recognize that research is expensive and often wasteful. But this does not excuse the Pentagon from managing their money honestly. If they cannot endure an audit, which has been the case forever, that means they are corrupt or at least open to corruption. It should be a condition for funding. Instead not funding the troops becomes a political issue and on and on it goes.
