Syria: Turkey war planes launch strikes on Afrin

Turkish war planes have launched air strikes on Kurdish positions in northern Syria, in a move likely to cause tensions with the US. Turkey wants to oust the Kurds, which it calls terrorists, from Afrin region which lies across its southern border. Some Kurdish groups are allies of the US against the Islamic State group.

If there is ever an Islamic State, it won't be started by ISIS or AQ. It will be started by Turkey.

The front page of all of the major papers today is focussed on the shutdown showdown in Washington. Is it a #Trumpocalypse or a #SchumerShutdown?

Meanwhile the damage of a Trump presidency is magnified as our national interests continue to take a back seat to a President (I am not making this up!) who spent yesterday watching old TV clips of himself criticizing President Obama's handling of the last shutdown.

Today's case in point -- Turkey just invaded Syria to attack Kurdish militia. That's right -- our NATO ally Turkey just attacked our anti-ISIS ally, the Kurdish YPG militia. America's response -- crickets .... While Nero fiddled Rome burned. https://www.lawfareblog.com/turkey-invades-syria

I think we all knew it was only going to be a matter of time before we turned on the Kurds...or at least sit by idly while Turkey ran roughshod over them. There's just no way we can support Kurds while retaining Turkey as a key ally.

What an expensive personal evaluation time. Turkey should never have been a trusted ally. Erdogan is a monster.

Your enemies are your friends when you're fighting your friends' enemies.......or something like that.
