Russian Subs Prowling Around Vital Undersea Cables

Russian submarines have dramatically stepped up activity around undersea data cables in the North Atlantic, part of a more aggressive naval posture that has driven NATO to revive a Cold War-era command, according to senior military officials. The apparent Russian focus on the cables, which provide Internet and other communications connections to North America and Europe, could give the Kremlin the power to sever or tap into vital data lines, the officials said. Russian submarine activity has increased to levels unseen since the Cold War, they said, sparking hunts in recent months for the elusive watercraft. "We are now seeing Russian underwater activity in the vicinity of undersea cables that I don't believe we have ever seen," said U.S. Navy Rear Adm. Andrew Lennon, the commander of NATO's submarine forces. "Russia is clearly taking an interest in NATO and NATO nations' undersea infrastructure."

We started doing this sort of stuff to them about 30 years ago, so why should anyone be surprised?

More concerning is that they are doing the same thing with surface ships.

Eh. Trump is in control with his strong hand to guide us.

We'll be just fine. /snark

Severing an international cable such as are the subject of this article is an act of war. Russia should be careful about that. Putin should weigh the benefits to the penalties which will be connected to any such act. America should warn Putin, in the strongest way possible that such an act will cause an incredible reaction that his nation is not really prepared for. Putin is a paper tiger. His arrogance and willingness to use military force causes him to get reckless and the world needs to put him in his place. If he starts cutting international cables, I doubt that even China would support him. Plus, someone should clue him in that satellite transmissions will still be available. Perhaps we should be putting many more satellites up there to carry the load in case this lunatic does instigate war.

The first things to go, if the worst happens.

What did Obama do to stop it? Both sides do it, well at least our side for sure has done it. So Danni guess we started the war.

What sort of stuff do you mean?

Huh - where are those Russian underwater cables? Who do they connect to?

We were never able to defend the Iraqi pipeline, which is largely above ground. No way we'd be able to defend an underwater cable. Just finding the break is an art.

True. Good bet most of them can be popped anytime, anywhere, by any number of players.

"So Danni guess we started the war."

So far there is no war with Russia regardless of what the morons in our world want to pretend, hopefully there never will be one because Russia, like us, has too many nuclear weapons. I guess you didn't remember that when you stupidly posted. These are play games, they are real important challenges from an ENEMY power who the right, for politican today, defends!? It is treason whether your little brain understands that or not.

You're an idiot! You're the one who called it an act of war!

Take your meds , Patron. Lay off Fox News and Trump's Twitter feed for a day.

This is what happens when you have a weak president. Our enemies start pushing just to see how far they can go. And Trump is too stupid to see it happening, so they just keep pushing.

Good job Republicans. You built that. MAGA!!!
