Christmas Truce of 1914

"Sainsbury's has recreated one of the most famous moments of the first world war in its new Christmas advert, which is squarely pitched at toppling John Lewis as king of festive sentimentality. The commercial, which premiered during ITV's Coronation Street on Wednesday night, retells the story of Christmas Day in 1914, when opposing British and German soldiers emerged from their trenches to exchange gifts and play football." -- The Guardian

My gift to the DR. Merry Christmas everyone. 🙏

I cant watch the video you post here but I know the story and it must be one of the most extraordinary war story I have ever heard

Sorry you can't see it Punchy. It is worth a see. Christmas is for sharing. It is my silly liberal hope that someday we can carry the spirit of Christmas with us every day of the year.

It's an amazing tale. Germans and Brits back then should've had the opportunity to live in peace and bond over common interests like football, as they do today.

My maternal grandfather fought in the Great War. He claimed to have been a part of the Christmas Truce. One problem, he was American and didn't ship over until 1918. He did get a snoot full of mustard gas and a bayonet wound. He had already passed when I was old enough to figure out that he could not have been there. Older relatives affirm that he was convinced of it. Combat memories can be fluid.
Merry Christmas Drudgians

INTERESTINGLY enough... this unusually humane incident in history is the setting for an epic new Dr. Who episode featuring the first, the current, and the new Dr... who is pretty hot.

Yeah, that was a nice touch.
