Republican Sen. John McCain is returning to Arizona after spending several days in a Maryland hospital recovering from side effects from chemotherapy treatment for brain cancer, CBS News has learned. McCain left Washington Sunday and is heading back to his home state to spend the holidays with his family. He will not be on hand for the final vote on the GOP tax passage expected for early this week. It is unclear when McCain might return to Washington. McCain, 81, has been receiving treatment at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland, since Wednesday. His son-in-law said on "Face the Nation" Sunday that McCain had been "in good spirits."
"I'm happy to say that he's doing well. The truth is that as anyone knows whose family has battled cancer or any significant disease that oftentimes there are side effects of treatment that you have. The senator has been through a round of chemo and he was hospitalized this week at Walter Reed," said Ben Domenech, a conservative writer and husband of Meghan McCain.
McCain was admitted to the hospital for what his office called "normal side effects" of his cancer treatment. McCain's condition has appeared to worsen lately. He suffered a minor tear in his right Achilles tendon, forcing him to wear a walking brace. He eventually began using a wheelchair with members of his staff assisting him.
It's fine if he misses the vote. The GOP gave tax breaks to their Senators to bribe the last few into voting for it.
It really is illuminating. The GOP can't deliver on such empty promises as building a Wall or repealing Obamacare. But when it comes to giving massive tax breaks to billionaires they totally are unified. IMO you are a whore for the 0.1% if you support this tax bill.
All of the holdouts have been properly compensated ~ sometimes with promises of future votes, which may or may not (depending on how much faith you put into a GOP promise) ever materialize. I'd say the holdouts sold out cheap. I think it's called "horsetrading" in legislative parlance.
I think we just got stuck with the spavined end of the horse.
If they had to wait a year for an election that hadn't been held yet to vote on a SCOTUS nominee then they should definitely wait a little longer until Doug Jones is seated before they proceed. Let the people of Alabama have their elected voice heard in this process. Of course we all know they won't because McConnell has no ethics.
And before anyone says the Dems would do the same thing, I point you back to 2010 when the Democratic controlled Senate waited to vote on the Affordable Care Act until after Republican Scott Brown was seated.
You are absolutely right Johnny. But, the GOtP is not interested in ethics. They are not interested in fairness. Only winning.
Especially when Trillions of dollars are about to move from the middle class right into their pockets and all their billionaire / millionaire friend's pockets.
We can't afford to fund childrens health insurance.
Here 1% have 1,500,000,000 borrowed from China. Proving once again it was all about the black guy in the oval office and not the deficit.
If I was John McCain I wouldn't want to go on record as having voted for this piece of Crap Tax Scam either.
