Trump Claims Jerusalem is Now the Capital of Israel

President Donald Trump's decision Wednesday to recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital has temporarily derailed the Israeli-Palestinian peace process, two senior White House officials acknowledged after Trump's speech. That "derailment" was a cost the White House was prepared to accept to fulfill Trump's campaign promise. And two senior White House officials said they felt making the announcement now -- before Israelis and Palestinians have reached the negotiating table -- would help mitigate the damage to the peace process. I never paid enough attention to this moron to know that this was a campaign promise. It is ridiculous, disgraceful and immoral for Trump to be making this declaration, as if it's his decision to make. It might even be illegal under international law. The catch there being that the USA doesn't care about international law unless it can use it to beat up on opponents,

Thomas Friedman ridiculed Trump, alleged author of "The Art of the Deal", as giving Jerusalem away for nothing, that is getting nothing in exchange, such as an end to illegal Jewish settlements or a two State peace treaty.

There will be more war.

It isn't like peace is going to break out.

Might as well change the headline to "Trump starts whacking hornets nest with stick".

America demonstrates that in reality we don't give a crap about Palestinians, some of whom lived on their family land which they had held for 900 years. Our love afair with Israel is disrupting the entire ME and peace will never arrive.

Israel declared Jerusalem as their capital way back in 1980. Every dem president since lbj has said they were going to move the embassy but never did. It has been in the dem platform for at least 20 years. Rave on you dems.

Did any Arabs ever have any say in the manner in which the Middle East was divided into countries and fiefdoms? NO. Churchill's primary goal was to make control of oil rich regions easier to manage by the West. Why do we provide full economic and military support for Israel at a level we refuse to provide for our own people? Why didn't the West give part of Germany to the Jews? Why do we tolerate Israel's slow deliberate confiscation of Palestinian territory and water, in violation of UN policy? Why do we permit Israel to destroy Palestinian hospitals, power plants, schools, farms, concrete plants, everything really?

OIL, which is destroying the natural balance between the sun, the earth and higher life forms. If Trump's policies prevail it won't be long before cockroaches rule the planet.

Oh, the hand-wringing! LOL!! Trump fulfilled a campaign promise AND did what Congress agreed to ... read it for yourself (from Haaretz):

Trump signed the waiver Wednesday delaying the move for six months. "In 1995, Congress adopted the Jerusalem Embassy Act urging the federal government to relocate the American Embassy to Jerusalem and to recognize that that city, and so importantly, is Israel's capital," Trump said. "This act passed Congress by an overwhelming bipartisan majority and was reaffirmed by unanimous vote of the Senate only six months ago." And yet, he added, "after more than two decades of waivers, we are no closer to a lasting peace agreement between Israel and the Palestinians. It would be folly to assume that repeating the exact same formula would now produce a different or better result."

And every President since, when briefed on the realities on the ground, passed on throwing gasoline on the fire.

This may actually help the process. After the extremists stop their temper tantrum, the adults at the table will see that unlike Presidents before him, Trump is a man of his word. So... When they come to the table and make an agreement they have a reliable partner. Unlike Obama who draws red lines and ignores them or who abandons our allies to give Iran nuclear weapons.
