Conservative activist Leonard Leo was hit with a subpoena from Senate Democrats on Thursday as part of a probe into Supreme Court ethics and whether individuals or groups used luxury gifts to access justices.

Santos is too much an egomaniac to hide the fact that raising a million dollar from his new district was proof positive that he was right all along and Congress was wrong to kick him out.
Let's say good-by to Georgie Porgie, pudding and pie, Kissed the girls and made them cry; When the boys came out to play, Georgie Porgie ran away.

"And you BELIEVE him???"
I believe the report that Santos wasn't able to raise a single penny. Not even one.
That kinda puts a damper on a campaign.

I agree that Johnson has somewhat matured in his role as Speaker, perhaps slowly realizing that he represents the country now, not just a district. But I still don't excuse him for holding up the aid to Ukraine for six months, in spite of intense intel about the urgency. That was unforgivable even for a novice "Speaker."
So I hope you'll forgive me throwing off my Pollyanna garbs and sticking to my wait-and-see opinion about the sincerity of Johnson's about face. I can't swear to what happened because I wasn't there. But I can swear to the six months it took Johnson to come to the realization that democracy was slipping away in Ukraine and it was all his fault. I mean, how blind can one person be . . . unless, of course, it was on purpose at the bidding of Donald Trump.

Trump does have a way (some call it a code) to let his cabal in the House know exactly what he expects of them. And he does so without using any form of hard copy communication that lead back to him.
If Johnson has "seen the light" or "turned over a new leaf," I'll reserve my judgement until I see if this about-face is a genuine separation from Trump or a one-off.
Since leopards don't change their spot, (to use a cliche) I'm banking on a one-off. We'll see what happens the next time Johnson has a tough decision to make i.e., Donald Trump's road to the White House . . . or what's best for the country.
Bringing the bi-partisan Border Security bill to the floor should give us the answer to that.

So, congratulations to Speaker Johnson for his skill in convincing Trump that the popular aid package for Ukraine would translate into votes for Trump into 2024.
What remains now is for Trump to convince the Kremlin, who is sitting on the precipice of victory, that the aid package for Ukraine is also in Russia's best long term interest.
That sounds like an uphill climb.
Russia has spent tons of money, over a lot of years, in U.S. politics, getting themself to the point of near certain victory in Ukraine, thus opening the door to Eastern Europe. It doesn't seem likely they're going to be happy about Trumps failure to stop Speaker Johnson from pulling the rug out from under them.
Time may not be on Mr. Putin's side. He's not a well man. Under Trump's plan, he may not live long enough to see his legacy as Russia's greatest leader carved for all eternity in Russia's history.

I'm sure you're right about the letter writing, phone calls, texts, public comments, etc., none of which were technically illegal, I suppose. But I was thinking about John Eastman's boast about having a "connection" to the U.S. Supreme Court which turned out to be Gini Thomas.
As yet, there's no explanation of the role she played, or intended to play. But Eastman's boast would indicate he was expecting her to intervene with her husband on behalf of the fake electors scheme at some point along the way.
I suppose that could come up when Eastman is looking for somebody to throw under the bus at his own co-conspirator trial. I just find her too despicable for words and hope she gets dragged into this conspiracy, kicking and screaming all the way.

And, wonder of wonders, I still don't see Gini Thomas' name ~ the wife of a U.S. Supreme Court Justice who worked hand-in-hand with John Eastman to pull off this scam.

I surely hope no juror goes public with their experience after this trial is over.
Trump never forgets and he never forgives (his words) and he'll be looking for scapegoats to victimize for his plight if he loses.
He'd be doing it in advance of a verdict right now if he could get his hands on their names.
I don't think there's a doubt in anybody's mind that Trump has been trying to get their identities from the moment they were officially sworn in. If he is successful, their very life could be in danger. And yes, like a cornered rat, he'll do any vile thing he can think of to escape.

When asked, first Trump said about Johnson, "He's trying really hard."
Next Trump said, "I'm furious with Johnson."
Did Trump get a message from Putin that said, "You (blanketly-blank), (i)(expletive), (expletive), (expletive) moron. How could you let this happen?

Rachael Maddow, who has been in the courtroom every day, made mention of the courtroom having an offensive, odorous, gas-mask worthy, smell about it.
I myself wondered why the two rows behind the defense table were empty.
A courtroom artists published a cartoon rendition of the jury wearing gas-masks.
Something is going on in there and it'd not a whoopie cushion.

I can respect your viewpoint but I still think we should stick to the actual charges in the case and the first person evidence and documents that led to the charge.
Speculation about what's going on in a person's mind at any given time may be selatious for the purpose of this blog but it's inadmissible.
Trump committed a crime to cover up another crime. The prosecution is building a case for a felony based on proving intent, backed up by Trump's own self-serving recorded history.
Todd Blanche should be very careful. Everything Trump touches dies, mostly the careers of attorneys.

With Trump doing all the heavy thinking for his attorney, I can hardly wait to see how Todd Blanche handles the cross examinations. Sidebars should add at least another month to the trial.
I don't know why Blanche doesn't just bugger out now to save his reputation and his livelihood.
Everything Trump touches dies.

Trump is micromanaging his own defense. I suspect Trump even wrote that flowery opening statement about himself.
That usually never work out.

I really don't think this case is going to come down to the size of Trump's mushroom. That's National Inquirer stuff.
Trump is fighting to get back in the Oval Office, not for his reputation in the bedroom.
