Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

Michigan's lost Democratic delegation may be a step closer to this summer's convention in Denver. The delegation, stripped of its convention credentials when state party leaders scheduled a Jan. 15 primary in violation of national rules, could finally be seated under a compromise the state party's executive committee endorsed Wednesday night. Under that proposal -- hammered out weeks ago by Sen. Carl Levin, Rep. Carolyn Cheeks Kilpatrick, UAW President Ron Gettelfinger and National Committeewoman Debbie Dingell -- Sen. Hillary Clinton would get 69 of the state's delegates and Sen. Barack Obama, 59.

To me, this seems like a good solution to the Michigan Delegate controversy. I would hope the DNC approves it.

What's up in Florida? Are Dems there working out a solution or are they just merely complaining about not being counted?

I would hope the DNC approves it.

I agree, but Corky will be along soon to tell us why Hil should get ALL the delegates from MI, and how much Obama hates FL.

It was still unclear whether Clinton's team would accept such a proposal. She earlier rejected the 69-59 plan.

----

She rejected a plan to seat the delegates and thus disenfranchised voters? Corky, say it ain't so!

If she had not agreed to the terms don't yu think Obama would have actually campaigned there? Typical democrat bullshit.

It wouldn't have mattered, michigan if full of hillary people, white redneck laid-off union dumbasses.

If Hillary rejects the MI deal I think more super delegates will desert her and go with Obama. I bet most are about sick and tired of her antics.

She rejected a plan to seat the delegates and thus disenfranchised voters?

I can't wait to year the spin on this.

"She rejected a plan to seat the delegates and thus disenfranchised voters?"

Shocking, isn't it?

She did more, though: She was for "disenfranchising" the Michigan voters before she was against it.

Same for them swompers in Floridia.

But situational ethics is like that.

"If Hillary rejects the MI deal I think more super delegates will desert her and go with Obama. I bet most are about sick and tired of her antics.

I agree with that. I think she will lose any high ground on this issue in this state if she says no to this negotiated, apparently well-supported proposal. (All of the sudden it will be her who is blocking an effort to seat the MI delegates, she who wants to "disenfranchise" MI voters.)

Well, if you are going to simply ignore the votes that people cast and not allow them to vote again I don't see this is a bad compromise. Hell, why don't the Dem leaders just toss out all the votes and just give Obama 2400 and Clinton 1500 delegates and just stop all this voting nonsense altogether...I mean really, what is the point of voting in a democracy?

Yes, indeed, ignore. I'm sure the difference between the 73 Hilliary would otherwise get and the 69 she gets under this proposal will make or break her candidacy. Time to change your pad, Jacque.

Montecore - I am agreeing with you. Hell, just let the Dem elites get together at the begining of the process and just pick the candidate. You seem to have no problem not counting votes - I hope the Dems go down that path in the future. That would be fine with me as it would just speed the parties descent to irrelevance. The sooner the better in my opinion so we can actually get a 3rd party that can actually win the presidency. You can keep Obama, Pelosi, and Reid!

I'm not up on Michigan Democrat party politics but it's funny that they let a union boss help divide the delegates.

She rejected this plan today so it looks like this ain't happening.

Democratic presidential hopeful Hillary Rodham Clinton on Thursday rejected a compromise plan to seat Michigan's delegates to the national convention that would give 69 delegates to Clinton and 59 to Barack Obama.

news.yahoo.com

This is a good plan. Of course who KNOWS what hillary will say?

First she said that the election didn't count.
Then we she needed the votes Obama was "disenfranchising" Michigan.
THen she turned down the split plan the first time.
Who are you this time, hillary?

PS- I can't wait(yes I can) to hear Corky's(Tony Snows) take(propaganda) on this situation(Cluster fuck for hillary). After all, she isn't getting(stealing)all the votes in a state she didn't(did) campaign in, that didn't count(like all the states she lost to Obama) But who knows what Corky(Ari Fleischer) will post now that Hillary cares so much for MI voters(she needs the votes badly)

Pretty shitty of the Hellaryites pitching a fit about MIFL votes when Hellary Herself declared they wouldn't count. What useless pondscum Hellary is. Now Her proverbial tits are in the wringer now She can't gush fast enough to declare Michigan and Florida are vitally important. Hellary is lower than whale shit and like DCinMA stated at least She is standing upon the shoulders of Dubya.

Just posted a blog on the backpage...she rejected this compromise today.

If it shows up on the backpage that is. I've already posted 2 blogs today.

Pirate- What an asshole Hillary is.

Guess she doesn't care about MI voters unless she gets ALL the votes from a contest that she said didn't count.

I can't stand the Clintons. This is why people hate them so much even though the 90's were a fairly good time economically. They're lying narcissistic scumbags that will do or say ANYTHING to get their way.

A Clinton campaign spokesman said Thursday that the campaign won't support any proposal that gives Clinton less than the delegates she earned winning the primary.

Alex,

I totally agree. She doesn't give a rip about the voters. Caring about these voters is pure BS. It's all about trying to gain the most delegates she can to try to catch up to Obama.

"It wouldn't have mattered, michigan if full of hillary people, white redneck laid-off union dumbasses."

Yes, outside of urban centers like Detroit and Flint which voted 70% uncommited, presumable for Obama.

"I'm not up on Michigan Democrat party politics but it's funny that they let a union boss help divide the delegates."

When you consider that the unemployment rate in MI is 7%+ it is not funny at all that the unions have so much power since they are part of this problem. It is because of heavy unionization that companies are scared to come into MI and that some companies are threatening to leave.

Don't you hate it when that happens? You post two interesting articles earlier in the day, maybe you have them lined up from the day before, and then something breaks later in the day. Oh well, you can always post it again (to the backpage) tommorow if someone else doesn't do it for you.

You can thank fuckhead Niceville for the 2 userblog limit a day rule.

Ole Corks recent talking point is that, "if Obama took his name off the ballot in MI, that is his problem." Which begs me to say, "If Michigan blatantly violated the rules then that is its problem."

I think they should revote in MI and screen the voters as they come in with a polygraph. Obama voters are shot on sight. Thats how democracy should work.

Amen, Alex. Can you imagine 4 more years of the Clintons? Put a fucking stake in both of them, once and for all.

so what antics are you referring to. cant you what all of them do....antics?

even though the 90's were a fairly good time economically.

well what do you know...I can finnaly use this info.
late last night ON PBS I watched 'american experience' and it was a fascinating look at the presidency of bush........HW 41 that is and they quoted a couple of government sources as well as the brookings institute and THEY said that even thoough the economy may have been the deal killer with 41's reelection, one week before the election it was reported that the economy grew almost 2 %.....a whopping figure.....and it went on to say......(REMEMBER THIS IS PBS) to say that a FULL 85 PER CENT of the clinton 'so called' surplus could be traced back to the deal 41 made with the democrat congress in 1990......

and now to topic...........and so a party who wants to put obama up front. who is afraid of fox news but we are supposed to trust them with iran or syria.......or who will be expected to be able to strongarm strong people but CANT EVEN TALK TO CHRIS WALLACE.....and YES I saw him there but why did he refuse to go on for so long......to be asked questions.................

but these states, this is how the party does its business???? and we are to jusy blindly follow theM???????????????????? uh I dont think so....
so does ANYONE HERE REALLY believe that anything they do with these states short of another primary will "TRUST" hillary to the front......I really dont think so.

Nice try Bl2.

Ultimately every Republican in Congress voted against the bill, as did a number of Democrats. Vice President Al Gore broke a tie in the Senate on both the Senate bill and the conference report. The House bill passed 219-213.[1] The House passed the conference report on Thursday, August 5, 1993, by a vote of 218 to 216 (217 Democrats and 1 independent (Sanders (VT-I)) voting in favor; 41 Democrats and 175 Republicans voting against), and the Senate passed the conference report on the last day before their month's vacation, on Friday, August 6, 1993, by a vote of 51 to 50 (50 Democrats plus Vice President Gore voting in favor, 6 Democrats (Lautenberg (D-NJ), Bryan (D-NV), Nunn (D-GA), Johnston (D-LA), Boren (D-OK), and Shelby (D-AL) now (R-AL)) and 44 Republicans voting against). President Clinton signed the bill on August 10, 1993.

[edit] Theory
The bill, at the time, was based on unproved economic theory. Since the Ronald Reagan administration, the American public was more receptive to Reaganomics pursued during the 1980s. The theory behind the bill was that federal budget deficits were more critical to economic health than either the New Deal liberals or Reagan-era conservatives wanted to admit. Both groups dismissed the importance of the federal budget deficit.

The bill, which both raised taxes and cut government spending, has been credited as the major cause behind the deficit reduction and eventual surpluses during the 1990s, by sources such as the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office. [2] The theory holds that federal budget deficits increase both inflation and interest rates. These two phenomena are widely known to cause economic stagnation.[citation needed] Indeed, when inflation increases, often the Federal Reserve will raise interest rates to contain the inflation.

Well,

It looks like I will be voting for republican running congressmen in this go around.

Both Washington state representative super delegates Patti Murray and Maria Cantwell are pledging their support for Clinton.

Washington state was way in favor of Obama and yet these super idiots are sticking with clinton.

I will do the most to get them out of office.

Does anyone know how to start a 501?

That only leaves you Demo CLOWNS in Florida......

So you still have something to whine about.

BLT gets his clock cleaned.....AGAIN! Too funny.
Nice going REINHEITSGEBOT.

and before both of you get too pissy and uppity my statement was taken from findings of the brookings institute. and when they agree with your side, they are experts but when it comes up with antiliberal stuff, they are just a 'nice try' and again LET ME REMIND BOTH OF you....this was broadcast on NPR and they would NEVER give us anything positive about anything BUSH if it werent true
so take your little 'pissy' crap and tell them about it. and of course it IS par for the course for liberal wacks to deny ANY involvement at all of any good economic news from the right it is a proven fact that the economy grew during the last days of the bush administration to the tune of two per cent and that was BEFORE clinton ever got his dick sucked in the oval office and made all of you so proud
.....EVEN THOUGH We are NOT in a recession....I repeat .....according to the accepted definition...from all sides too.....we are NOT IN A RECESSION because as I understand it ...the gnp grew in the last quarter......is that NOT correct or do you two.....Dick and Lick... have some other information from cnn or npr?
BOTTOM LINE.....I guess PBS is now an arm of the right wing conspiracy????? I think not.....
its from american experience.......two part episode on bush 41......the next one is on fdr and I am sure you will think every word is the gospel.....and it would be more typical behavior.

and maybe I shouldnt be watching anything on pbs even though I help pay for their usual liberal wacked out bullshit..( bill moyers)......you know, you two just might have a point...but if you comb your hair ,,JUUUUST RIght.......
and one more thing....I guess I cant techically prove it because it has already been broadcast but I guess thats just what I get for broadening my horizons and watching anything I can get my hands on.

ohyeah hey DANNI and truth.
have I mentioned in the last 5 mins that I hope both of you get in those gas hogs and drive drive drive.....but that gas and go.....

texas budget surplus said to be 10.7 BILLION DOLLARS largely thanks to oil and gas revenues and JOBS going through the roof........
AND dont forget....THATS AFTER we pay the bills.......he ehe heee......(snort, snort).......I just cant stop laughing.......ah......ha ha ha ha ha

and as always......keep those anti texas comments coming......freezing in the FRIGGIN dark is getting closer to reality all the time.......
oh.......I cant take much more......hee hee

What a crock of shit!!

She rejected a plan to seat the delegates and thus disenfranchised voters? Corky, say it ain't so! -- Pirate

Pirate, concerns about disenfranchisement are an excellent reason for objecting to the plan. Having Dem Party elites decide how to apportion Michigan's delegates is not giving Michigan voters a voice -- i.e., not enfranchising them. They should be allowed a re-vote.

I have been angry for months about Howard Dean's abuse of his position. First, he reneged on the rules the DNC had adopted that New Hampshire would go 3rd, prompting Michigan and Florida's objections and attempted leapfrogging.

Then he made the dunder-headed decision to punish the *voters* of Fla and Mi by refusing to seat their delegates -- instead of making New Hampshire go 3rd, as the rules called for!

Finally, he did not use his position to force a re-vote, which would have granted ordinary citizens in Mi and Fl the right they deserve, and would have taken this fiasco off the table months ago.

In 2006, the Democratic National Committee adopted a rule providing that four states -- Iowa, Nevada, New Hampshire and South Carolina -- could hold their presidential primary or caucus in January, with the rest of the states following. The rule dictated that the early states hold their contests in a specific order -- with New Hampshire coming third -- and no earlier than designated dates between Jan. 14 and Jan. 29.

While Michigan Democrats were disappointed that our state was not selected for one of the four early contests, we appreciated the new rule for adding a bit of much-needed diversity to the early nominating process, and as a first step toward breaking the Iowa-New Hampshire lock. We announced that we would abide by the new calendar provided that other states did the same.

But last August, the New Hampshire secretary of state indicated he was going to schedule his state's primary before the date specified, clearly defying the sequence and timing the party had set. Michigan Democratic leaders repeatedly asked the Democratic National Committee if it intended to penalize New Hampshire for this violation, but the committee refused to act.

I am stunned that he has not been forced to resign.

Excellent article here about Hillary and Obama, in the newest issue of Rolling Stone:

I disagree on the whole with Matt Taibbi's politics, but his articles are always a good read.

Good article, Nappy. But I disagree with his contention that the schism he talks about will last through the general election.

BL2 -- with all that surplus you'd think Tejas would have better schools. :)

Great article, Nappy.

I really liked this characterization of Hillary's crowds and some of the media covering them:

...faces of the type that all us smug cleverati in the media think can be ignored, faces that have been going to boring-ass jobs every day and taking one crappy vacation a year to Puerto Vallarta and running a treadmill three times a week to help their spouses find sex with them more tolerable -- you see, there we go, making jokes about them again! See, we can laugh all we want, but they won't . . . back . . . down! THEY WON'T! BACK! DOWWWWWWWN!
