Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

Arianna Huffington: At a dinner party in Los Angeles not long after the 2000 election, I was talking to a man and his wife, both prominent Republicans. The conversation soon turned to the new president. "I didn't vote for George Bush" the man confessed. "I didn't either," his wife added. Their names: John and Cindy McCain (Cindy told me she had cast a write-in vote for her husband). The fact that this man was so angry at what George Bush had done to him, and at what Bush represented for their party, that he did not even vote for him in 2000 shows just how far he has fallen since then in his hunger for the presidency.

I wanted to see McCain win in 2000 and wouldn't be able to vote for him now.

She's probably right, but as the campaign continues, he'll have one gaffe too many and a tipping point will be reached.

To say nothing of the voluminous video file the Dems are building and will unleash once the election goes head to head. I'm sure there are Dem strategists poring over clips and quotes to throw back at him wondering "which one is most likely to make him melt down on camera?"

Once you get to that tipping point, the meme shifts to "crazy old man", and he's done. Remember the "Dean Scream"? McCain is one on-screen outburst away from oblivion, no matter who the Dem nomineee is.

"a tipping point will be reached"

Was reached is the operative concept; Enjoy the ride.

Given the past few years, at this point wouldn't this help McCain?

Rob: If McCane hadn't embraced Bush so whole-heartedly since 2000, it would. As it is, he's justifiably being tied to Bush.

"I wanted to see McCain win in 2000 and wouldn't be able to vote for him now."

you're kidding, right?

all the best.

McCain is nothing more than another liberal , I did'nt vote for his libcom deadass when I lived in AZ. , I would vote for him only if he chooses a good Conservative Constitutionalist V.P. , then pray to God his age catches up with him . Anybody is better than the 2 clueless morons the dems put up , America would never recover from osama or hilarity .

I don't think you understand. In Robs world, being tied to Bush is a good thing.

The Old McCain is a disgrace to the much Yonger McCain. How He lives with Himself I will never know.

An example of blind partisan zeal.

I know I'll regret asking, but I can't help wondering just who would fill Rightnut's bill. I mean ... we must reach a point where just no one will do. Genghis Khan is dead. herm

Ditto. I actually voted for this puke in the primary. Then he became Bush's buttboy shortly after.

That's a good strategy to try to get McCain's goat and get him to blow his top on camera. You have the entire liberal media to help you too. But we have Rev Wright and Weatherman Bill Ayers on our side. We'll have those two flamers screaming on Fox news and talk radio 24/7. Those two make Howard Dean look almost normal.

mccain, regardless of all that he kisses, hugs, gets endorsed by, takes money from or sleeps with, is and always has been a conservative moderate.

all candidates will shift to get their base and independents on board and blow anyone to get one more vote.
then they get in office, they take off the mask and the real person comes out.
see W.
remember his stump speeches?
and what do they have to do with reality?

mccain has, almost to a fault, dealt with dems on a range of issues ranging from the failed campaign reform bill to the failed immigration bill.
LOL

i live in az, he won't get my vote as i am voting 3rd party.
this state is going for mccain so my vote is more irrelevant than most.

the one thing about mccain - he's a half ounce more character than the other two... that is debatable, of course...
none of the three impresses me anymore.

choose your poison, ladies and gents.
it'll be this guy or one (insert O or H).

all the best.

From the article:

The John McCain the media fell in love with in 2000 isn't on the ballot in 2008. And the proof has all but jumped up and grabbed the media by the throat: the ring-kiss of "agents of intolerance" Falwell and Robertson; the decision to make permanent tax cuts he twice voted against, saying he could not "in good conscience support" them; the campaign finance reformer replaced with a candidate whose campaign is run by lobbyists and fueled by loophole rides on his wife's jet; the hard-line stance against torture replaced by a vote allowing waterboarding; the guarded-by-a-battalion stroll through the "safe" neighborhoods of Baghdad; the use of Karl Rove as an advisor... and the embracing of the disastrous policies of a man he so abhorred he would not vote for him.

Psssst....he also has a drug addict for a wife who stole medicine from a clinic for the poor to support her habit. That's hardly the kind of first lady we need.

It's certain that after "Songbird" McCain simmered down after being ass raped by Rove in 2000 he fell bank into line and voted for Chimpy in 2004.

The entire right-leaning MSM can have all the fun you want with Wright.

Let's play the "Who Wants A drug Addict For A First Lady" Game!
r
That's right ladies and gentleman, McBush's second wife, not the one he called a 'cunt' in front of reporters, but his SECOND wife, is a drug addict that was convicted of stealing drugs from a clinic for the poor and only evaded jail time because she was white and rich (at least that's what we'll be telling them). Ahhhhh.....we get to play the 'elitist' card too! This is going to be fun!

I am glad you put nut in your name as it is the only real description of anyone who wishes death upon someone for the horrid crime of having a different viewpoint.

Hey, Obama rhymes with Osama.....man you are clever.

An American Hero turned to mush by the Conservative hacks who call themselves Republicians. The republician Party itself doesn't not deserve to be running this Country. After 7 1/2 years what have they go to show for there time in power. It will take a generation to undo what these incompetent assholes have done..........

The McCain camp has issued a denial to this story.

Update: Through a spokesperson with the colorful name Tucker Bounds, McCain has denied telling me he didn't vote for Bush in 2000. "It's not true," Bounds told the Washington Post, "and I ask you to consider the source."

My sentiments exactly -- because John McCain has a long history of issuing heartfelt denials of things that were actually true.

He denied ever talking with John Kerry about his leaving the GOP to be Kerry's '04 running mate -- then later admitted he had, insisting: "Everybody knows that I had a conversation."

He denied admitting that he didn't know much about economics, even though he'd said exactly that to the Wall Street Journal. And the Boston Globe. And the Baltimore Sun.

He denied ever having asked for a budget earmark for Arizona, even though he had. On the record.

He denied that he'd ever had a meeting with comely lobbyist Vicki Iseman and her client Lowell Paxon, even though he had. And had admitted it in a legal deposition.

And those are just the outright denials. He's also repeatedly tried to spin away statements he regretted making (see: 100-year war, Iraq was a war for oil, etc.).

So, yes, by all means, "consider the source."

From Huffington Post

not to endorse mccain...
because i couldn't...

is hillary a better choice?

LOL

and obama has no skeletons in his closet or is of a better moral fabric than the others?

my point is that there's three flawed candidates.
one could crucify each one with good reason if one cared to look hard enough.

you're still going to have to throw your vote into a basket.

just rest assured that that vote probably won't mean anything.

all the best.

you're still going to have to throw your vote into a basket.

Fucking sad sometimes, but Democracy is the best system we have.

About the same thing that the dem's have after 2 years with, an albeit slim, majority.

Diddly shit.

As soon as you and the rest of the dipshits like you get it through your skulls that both parties are fucking this country up, we'll be able to move along and make some improvements.

But you won't do that. You'll go on thinking that a democrat is better for this country than voting for an independent or a green. You are part of the problem.

Does any of this bullshit matter. I want you losers to tell me how many toss up states Barrack or Hillary are gonna win?

Florida
Ohio
Missouri
Pennsylvania
Michigan
Minnesota
New Mexico
Oregon
Wisconsin
New Hampshire
Connecticut
Iowa

The way I see it other states that were never in play the last few elections will be this time for McCain. States like

New Jersey
Massachusetts
Rhode Island
Maryland
California
Washington

States Barrack or Hillary have no chance in

Utah
Montana
Texas
South Carolina
Georgia
Alabama
Arizona
Indiana
Kentucky
Louisiana
Mississippi
Nebraska
Oklahoma
Idaho
North Dakota
South Dakota
Wyoming
Alaska
Kansas

Yeah Axiom, those Greens have caused huge changes in America. Get over yourself, this is a two party country choose one, if you don't like everything about it then change it as we have done for centuries now. Parties can and do change directions but only majorities make a difference. Third parties just give more power to the party most oppositional to that very third party.
You, Ralph Nader and the rest of y'all who are "above" American politics are the problem. Bush would never have been president if it hadn't been for third party voters not voting for what's best for America but voting their ego.

BTW, Al Gore is a Democrat but he has caused more people to pay attention to the environment than the Green Party has ever managed to do.

DANNI-
You and I are partisans. I agree with all you said at 801am... only coming from the Rep side vs Dem.

Over the years I've come to (sort of) understand that not all voters think pragmatically. For any number of reasons they feel the two parties aren't doing what they feel should be done. And, just like in business, those who aren't effective/productive are tossed aside in favor of a potentially better solution. These voters don't feel beholden to one party over another and see both as mostly equal in terms of faults.

So while there's no guarantee the "new" set of pols will be any better, the default feeling is that they can't be any worse. Sure, there may be some ego involved, but I don't think that's the voter's overriding motive.

It's getting so people expect goofy shit from McCain. He's not going to pass the 3 a.m. phone call test.

Al Gore has done so much for the environment. He was such a successful administrator that he got exactly ZERO votes in the US Senate for The Kyoto Accord. way to go AL

BTW, Al Gore is a Democrat but he has caused more people to pay attention to the environment than the Green Party has ever managed to do.

And now that they've paid attention, they realize what a hack Al is.

**** McCain Didn't Vote for Bush ****

........he's not as crazy as he looks.......

"And now that they've paid attention, they realize what a hack Al is."

Yeah, that's why so many Democrats would happily elect him president. Name one Green Party member with half the following that Al Gore has.

Hillary couldnt answer the phone because of all the sniper fire.

B.Hussien Obama couldnt answer because it might be the Rev.

McCain can answer the phone as older folks dont sleep well and he will probably be up and answer it.

Hey anti war libs, hellary will obliterate Iran, how bad does that make you want to vote for her? LOL

McCAin wouldn't have to actually wake up to answer the phone at 3 a.m. He would just leave a recorded message, "bomb Iran" is all it would say over and over.

"Bush would never have been president if it hadn't been for third party voters not voting for what's best for America but voting their ego."

Nor would Clinton have won against HW. I'm sure you didn't have a problem with that, though.

I love how so called liberals, after all we've seen these last seven years, still blame nader. God F'ing Forbid we take a look at Bush and Bush voters, Or Al Gore and his piss poor campaign, or caging lists and rampant disenfranchisement.

No, its much easier to blame Nader, blame the audacity of a third party candidate thinking he's got any right to run on a platform backed by a majority of the country, than to address all the real reasons we're looking at the world the way we are now.

Sickening.

"Sickening."

He will receive his fair share of the blame forever, because it is a fact. It isn't me who blames Nader, it's history.

How many of you actually believe what this woman says. Most of you I would bet. Poor, poor basement trolls.

I didn't vote for McCain in the Republican primary, I voted for Romney. I think the McCain/Feingold Bill was a restriction of free speech, and the McCain/Kennedy immigration bill was an open borders amnesty forever bill. But so what? McCain is now the Republican nominee and even with his many faults, Obama and Clinton both scare me too much to not vote for him.

Obama is at heart a socialist, and I'm not sure if Clinton has any core values other than winning elections.

I think if either is elected, and they do what they say they're going to, and congress approves, we won't just have high gas and health care costs, we'll be looking at both being rationed once they destroy the free market that provides them in abundance.

SO, holding my nose, I will vote for McCain. But I will be holding my nose. This ain't a good year for presidential politics.

Newt, where art thou?

Newt, where art thou?

Probably in the basement, committing adultery by banging his secretary.

Again.

Sad, isn't it. The GOP couldn't even come up with a candidate who followed Biblical teachings...

Newt, where art thou?

FF for you !

Do you mean the guy who shut down guv'ment after having to ride in the ass end of the Air-O-Plane ?

Or the guy who was slithering around Washing-Ton with his girl friend while he was pushing Clinton's Impeachment ?

Or the guy who is estranged from his sister because she is (shudder) Lesbian ?

And oh yeah.. Romney... wunnder how his VEEP chances are looking after all the recent revelations of old FLDS men diddling little girls ?

Some rally, rally tall fellers in the GOP camp !

(And yes I have a great spell checker in Firefox, but I like to make fun of these dummies).

Don't you mean "choose the left". From your endless partisan diatribes here, it's obvious that you look down your nose at anyone who leans to the right.

I am really fond of folks who say "just choose one". More like caving in. "I don't want to work for a party who might have my best interests at heart because that would take hard work that might not be immediately gratifying." Sounds more like you'd just rather have it handed to you while you collect a check.

Al Gore and John Kerry lost because they were poor choices for candidates. It's comical that you can't decide whether the Republicans stole the election or if Ralph Nader caused your candidates to lose. You're so transparent.

BTW, Al Gore is a Democrat but he has caused more people to pay attention to the environment than the Green Party has ever managed to do.

Indeed. Like that time he said that America shouldn't sign the Kyoto Treaty until some changes were made, then he lost his bid for the presidency and changed his mind because it would get the easily convinced lefties to believe in him again.

When all is said and done and John McCain moves into the White House next January, I hope you can sit back and be content with "just choosing one".

YOMELIB..

You must stay up nights figuring out your brilliant arguments..

Good job following the liberal axiom.. when you don't have reasonable arguments, just shout louder slogans. (from the Cynthia McKinney book of politics)

Keep it up.. please, we need people like you making it easier for a republican to win the white house.

***** And oh yeah.. Romney... wunnder how his VEEP chances are looking after all the recent revelations of old FLDS men diddling little girls ?
Yomelib *****

......are you sure he's a real Republican ??.....its the first I heard of them fucking girls.......

I KNOW THAT BOTH ARE LOW IQ BUT WHO IS SMARTER???
