Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

In a new memoir, the former commander of US forces in Iraq provides new details of the goings-on at high levels of the Bush Administration in the first year of the Iraq war. Lt. Gen. Ricardo Sanchez' conclusion: "Hundreds of billions of taxpayer dollars were unnecessarily spent, and worse yet, too many of our most precious military resource, our American soldiers, were unnecessarily wounded, maimed, and killed as a result. In my mind, this action by the Bush administration amounts to gross incompetence and dereliction of duty."

"When the history is written, it will be said this is a safer country and more hopeful world because George Bush was president," Cheney said in a Friday gathering of Okalahoma Republicans.

Screw you, Dave.

The entire world has become Utopia as a direct result of GWB's presidency.

"The entire world has become Utopia as a direct result of GWB's presidency.'

My point, exactly!

Where's th' love?

this is the sort of article that i expect to be reading a lot more of in the upcoming years.

this entire administration is corrupt and inept (in either order).

and my thoughts always lead to the same conclusion... that 63 million people were so friggin idiotic and stupid as to re-elect this moron four years ago.

it is amazing beyond any scope of the imagination that, as a nation, we are so dumb. tis a wonder we can walk erect, put sentences together, drive a car or dial a phone.

all the best.

no

i'm not bitter.

That was dirty, Sanchez.

General Accuses Bush of Gross Incompetence...World Accuses General of Gross Understatement.

Pretty astute General....and, right on point..!!!!

Why does Gen. Sanchez hate America...or freedom...or ?

Sanchez ... you can just tell he swam across the Rio Grande.

But seriously, folks, the big issue, the prime question for 2008, is not who we blame for two stolen four-year terms of tyrannical crooks draining our country dry, it's making sure that this - as they say in Judaica - never never never happens again. We CANNOT survive eight years of Bush and THEN four more of McBush. herm

As pointed out on Frontline: Franks quit Iraq in utter disgust and was immediately replaced by Sanchez. This only happened after Kissinger's boy Bremer moved in with his own version of "Shock and Awe", undoing every prudent, competent move by those knowlegable on Iraq with their boots on the ground. Later Sanchez was blamed by the Administration for lack of progress and replaced.

....but I only heard about Frank's spontaneous resignation on Frontline. Where was the media?

Amen, Herm.

I've always believed that once Bush was out of office and his petty retribution-squad hatchetmen were unemployed, there will be a flood of revelations about the last 8 years. If Bush seriously believes that history will vindicate him, he knows nothing about history.

Who was running the war part of that action, I thought it was the military. Didn't they learn anything from the CF in Viet Nam where the war was run by an ex executive of a motor company and a bunch of whiz kids with new slide rules?

I guess everyone thinks they are a general and know how to wage war. The administration needs to tell the military what the goals are and get the hell out of the way. That should be very clear.

I actually agree with you on something Sniper.

I think Tom Clancey has a lot to answer for. Now, it seems every warrior wannabe has it in his head that Special Forces, a few satellites and a couple of Smart Bombs can achieve what whole armies can't. It's like the CSI Syndrome - unrealistic expectations on the part of amatuers trumping the judgement of experienced professionals.

Sniper,
I think that is/was the problem. There are no military goals. "Kill em all" makes a nice bumper sticker but isn't very practical and certainly isn't realistic. Short of that, what can the military do?

Then again, in 2000, like most people, I thought that even though Bush had no national security experience, Cheney and Rumsfeld would be a safe backup.

Not the first time I was wrong.

EP-

In 2003 there were actual goals that could be achieved militarily. This didn't have to go the way it did. It went off the rails when there weren't enough troops to secure the country in the first days, and just got worse from there.

Also, there needed to be a massive influx of real, experienced civilian aide and leadership. Instead, Iraq got a few loyal Bushies, recent college grads, and opportunists looking to make a quick buck.

The administration needs to tell the military what the goals are and get the hell out of the way. That should be very clear.

Maybe the fact that there were no real goals to begin with (except invade) complicated matters. Seems to me everything that could possibly be done to create the clusterfuck was done, almost carefully prepared...end result and original goal: permanent bases.

No argument here. But the possibility of a military solution vaporized pretty quickly and we've been at this point for what, 4 years now?

Gen. Sanchez--just another Commie, traitor liberal who hates God, hates America, and is consumed with an irrational hatred towards G. Bush, God's appointed ruler on earth.

The only people more glad to see the end of Bush than the voters will be the troops and the Pentagon.

More to come here, I think.

Tell us something the average American doesn't know but still continues to try to deny this fact because they can't believe our chosen leader would be so willing to do such willfull purposeful ruin of American lives and funds.

Say what you want liberals.

I voted for Bush twice and I am going to vote for McCain.
(retch)

I'm gonna do it anyway.
(spit)
(gargle with some JD)

To think of a pandering liberal in the White House is just to much for me.

I ain't a happy camper.

Don't y'all think it's time we freeze Bush and Cheney and the rest of the thieves' bank accounts and stock holdings/funds?

Anything they've made since 2001, or held in blind-trusts, save for their salaries as POTUS and VPOTUS, should be confiscated, investigated and redistributed back to the US Treasury...don'cha think?

Isn't odd that the Republicians, who have been bullshitting the American people for so long about there love of the military are the one responsible for destroying the career of so many great American Military heros.

Any General or Admiral who had the nerve to question the incompetence of Rummy or Cheney found themselves forced to resign. What a waste of good leadership, an the American people got Partisianship instead of experience, what a fucking disgrace.

History will take care of this Administration one can only hope that in the 6 months they have left the will do no more harm...

General Accuses Bush of "Gross Incompetence"

Get at the end of the line, General. Millions of people already came to that conclusion long before you did.

Now that they don't have anything left to lose, the higher-ups are finally speaking up against Bush. Thanks a whole lot. Assholes.

Its Too Little and Too Late, for the American public Gen.Sanchez, but fortunately its just in time to promote and sell your new book!!!

what? No defense from Reichwingdumb?

Briwo what do You expect out of the RightWingers?? They know if they say anything they will look like people talking like men/women with paper assholes the shit would just keep flying out of their mouths. They know also they don't have a pocket to piss in nor a boot to pour it out of. They know their gooses have been thoroughly cooked and they don't have a leg to stand upon. Know what I am saying??

In the same way that in a room full of monkeys and typewriters one of them would eventually type a coherent sentence purely on random chance (given enough time), snippy has made a valid point.

:-)

"The administration needs to tell the military what the goals are and get the hell out of the way."

It's a valid point, Middleman, only if there's a clear reason to have a war at all. If we get as half-assed a rationale as Bush and Cheney provided, we're gonna have a half-assed war, no matter what. herm

I could care less what you assclowns think about what I say.

Obama and Clinton will not do the right thing if we are attacked again.

Get with it.

rwd

Obama and Clinton will not do the right thing if we are attacked again.

What Irony. Bush did the "right" thing in invading Iraq? I might have given him more credit if he had finished the job in Afghanistan, but it hasn't turned out well has it?

Sanchez was a junior general with no major command experience. He had two problems, namely Bremer who sparked the insurgency and Rumsfeld who insisted on a "light footprint." Both were the darlings of the Right-Wing-Dons in Washington and they were both arrogant fuckups.

In this case the "right thing" was the wrong move.

In this case the "right thing" was the wrong move.

Can't disagree with you there and probably a whole bunch more.

One thing though,we need a president who will put us on the right track to fighting this war.

Not someone who will mire us in political stagnation because they respond to the daily pols.

I do not want a president who will not fight.

Now is the time.

The middle east is the place.

rwd

Bush incompetence?

How about our entire congress needs a reset button! LOL!

Are we sure this guys a General?

he sounds more like a Capitan to me....CAPTAIN OBVIOUS!

"I do not want a president who will not fight."

I do. Wholeheartedly. Or at least exhaust all other alternatives first. herm

Come on BL2. Come on Nanc. Come on WisGod. Come on all you right wing hacks. Quit hiding. General Sanchez was one of your superheroes a few years back when he was helping oversee the war. Now he is bluntly telling the truth about the completely incompetent oversight by the Republican White House. If you assholes had any class you would simply once and for all acknowledge that you were used by a bunch lying money hungry rightwing criminals.
But even now you guys will prevaricate and create strawmen to avoid acknowledging the clusterfuck you helped manufacture through your blind support of this Administration and all things rightwing. I consider all of you to be little more than sheep at best, and traitors to America at worst. This country would be a far better, far safer, and far more prosperous place without any of you rightwingers.

Preident Fucktard can kiss my ass.

Okay general Sanchez may be right and Bush may be grossly incompetent, but Hillary is a bitch and Obama is a muslim who has a crazty Christian REVERAND.

The Fighty Rightys
PS You can hear the chickens singing in Diyala now, thanks to George Bush.

How about our entire congress needs a reset button!

I think our entire government has lost its way. It seems like DC changes people for the worse.

"I think our entire government has lost its way. It seems like DC changes people for the worse."

No, they were pretty fucked up for wanting to go there in the first place.

I have come to the conclusion that anyone who has the desire and drive to be President is too goddamn much of a megalomaniac to be entrusted with the position.

Well Old Rummy is just trying to rewrite history to save his ass! Tried to bribe this general with a DOD position...IF he signed a memo!

In what Sanchez maintains was an effort by Rumsfeld to shrug off blame for mistakes in Iraq's first year, he says that the Secretary penned a memo which blamed failures on him.

"I stopped reading after I read that last statement, because I knew it was total BS," he writes. "After a deep breath, I said, "Well, Mr. Secretary, the problem as you've stated it is generally accurate, but your memo does not accurately capture the magnitude of the problem. Furthermore, I just can't believe you didn't know that Franks's and McKiernan's staffs had pulled out and that the orders had been issued to redeploy the forces."

Starting to get a little worked up," he adds, "I paused a moment, and then looked Rumsfeld straight in the eye. "Sir, I cannot believe that you didn't know I was being left in charge in Iraq...."

Oh, what a surprise that is. The absolute worst general who was in charge of the war on the ground in Iraq comes out and blames Bush for what were his own failures. Bush gave him everything he needed to get his job done and he fucked it up from top to bottom. Hell, he was even given a chance to fix all of his mistakes before he was replaced and sent down in infamy.

All these prcks writing books to try and show that 'it wasn't my fault' have about as much honor as s soldier fighting in Iraq has in his pinkie nail.

Go blow yourself,Snachez. You fucked up from the minute you got there.

"Bush gave him everything he needed to get his job done"

What a hoot.

Go blow yourself, Bush. You fucked up from the minute you went there.

Fixed that for you.

Sanchez was no one's first pick to command forces in Iraq. What happened was virually everyone senior to him RETIRED before they could be assigned that sack of shit.

That's just the way it was. Now go find some other fig leaf for George Bush, Boy Blunder.

"Blames Bush for what were his own failures...."

What a riot. After almost eight years you don't get it. Bush was/is---

1) Lazy
2) Dull intellectually
3) Under-educated
4) Vain

There was no brilliance to be thwarted by unworthy subordinates.

"This country would be a far better, far safer, and far more prosperous place without any of you rightwingers."

Unfortunately no other country would want them.

All this article said to me was just that Rumsfeld was directly responsible for wasting hundreds of billions and thousands of soldiers live. He should never again be able to show his face in public without the hatred of the American people looking him directly in the eye.

**** Bush gave him everything he needed to get his job done ****

......what job was that ??.......

......and how would we know its been done ??......

"Bush gave him everything he needed to get his job done and he fucked it up from top to bottom."

He (Sanchez) said the Iraq war plan from the start was "catastrophically flawed, unrealistically optimistic," and the administration has not provided the resources necessary for victory, which he said the military could never achieve on its own."

No political pressure on the Iraq gov't, sub standard body amour, helmet liners, and vehicles, dirty water, etc... yup "everything he needed"

Sanchez writes, "It was now crystal clear that a major success had to occur in Iraq before the presidential elections. Critical decisions affecting Iraq would be tied directly to ensuring the success of President Bush's reelection campaign."

Sniper...

"the goals are"...get me (GB) reelected

"get the hell out of the way"...mission impossible for GB administration, everything must be looked at firstly for it's political impact.

Come on. You apologists from the Right can do a better job whining about how it was not the GOP's fault. Blame Clinton (either one).

One solution to our problem and Iraq's problem would be for the US to unilaterally deport every rightwinger in this country to Iraq and let them rebuild it. That gets them out of here (hurray!), and gives them an opportunity to put their money (and efforts) where there mouth is over there. Just the thought of permanently relocating people like Sniper and BL2 in Iraq makes me feel better. ...I may be on to something here...

........we win the war.........we get to go home.........

........we lose the war........we get to go home.........

.......and we are war because......hhhmmmm.....I'm stumped......

The administration needs to tell the military what the goals are and get the hell out of the way. That should be very clear.

Posted by Sniper at 2008-05-05 05:08 PM

Not really. The military doesn't fund itself and blank checks aren't very good policy...
