Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

When James Payne found out he needed a liver transplant, he first tried to arrange the surgery at a top local hospital in South Florida. Doctors there told him that they couldn't schedule the procedure for a few months and that it would cost $450,000, a fortune for the uninsured former investment banker.

So the 55-year-old and his wife, who planned to donate half her own liver to her husband, bought plane tickets to India instead. There, at one of New Delhi's premier hospitals, a transplant specialist did the surgery for $58,000--a price tag that included their 10-week hospital stay.

As more and more employees are forced to make medical decisions based on cost, look for the cheap foreign medical system to win over customers.

The ultimate in outsourcing. Look for the AMA to start bitching and whining as this becomes mainstream.

Hell with vidoeconferencing we can have lawyers from India represent us in court for the amazing low price of $9.95.

What the hell just outsource the judicial positions over there to save money as well and then we can connect via teleconference from here.

Why pay a federal judge hundreds of thousands when you can get Punjab to decide a case between taking calls from Microsoft customer support for only $9 per week!

Americans Going Abroad For Surgeries

Yep, they are all rushing to Canada and Cuba.

BREAKING NEWS!!!

Over 3 people have been spotted fleeing the United States in order to find better Health Care in Canada, 1 person was seen headed for Cuba and another 2 entire people were seen flying to the UK for health care. The reasons for this mass exodus are yet unknown, but many are already blaming it on the fact that it is not free to receive treatment in US hospitals.*

*Unless you don't pay for it or are an Illegal immigrant, in which case services are provided at no charge to you, the rest of the taxpayers will take up the slack. See also: Emergency Room.

I usually have dental work done when I am overseas. Excellent work and only a fraction of the cost. My American dentist noticed some work he had not done, and said it was as fine as he'd ever seen.

My $400 glasses were damaged and I got an identical pair in Manila for $50.

Did you specifically fly to Manila to get glasses? If so, you are retard. If not, then your comment is meaningless.

So which is it? Do we like cheap foreign labor, or do we support higher American prices which support our standard of living?

So I guess it's OK to support poverty wages when you're in their country, but don't let them come here looking for something better.

$450,000.00 to have life saving but unfordable surgery, vrs $58,000.00 that could be paid. Life vrs. death. Stop arguing bullshit and start living in a real world.

Life---Death

Possible---Impossible

That folks is a real no-brainer!

You can be sure they paid out of pocket as no health insurance co in this country will allow you to go out of network.

You should see some of the dental work done in Mexico. They have the best technology the 1950's had to offer.

Just ask you car mechanic to smile.

meanwhile, nhs canadians seek healthcare in the u.s.!

remember, for EVERY action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.

SAY NO TO NATIONAL HEALTH CARE!

why would ANYBODY go out of the country to get dental/vision insurance coverage? it's less than 70 bucks a month for a family of four!

put down the remote control and take control of your lives deadbeats!

I know why some do, and they're in the military. Easier to slip over to Mexico from Ft. Bliss, get lasik done.

Oh yea, Ft Bliss is the place to have surgery

SAY NO TO NATIONAL HEALTH CARE!

You should be Denied Healthcare since you are a Christian. If all Christians were denied we would save tons of money

Messiah, Shut the fuck the son.

Listen to my damn music train or I will punish you boy.

a 90 day supply of my medications is $480.00 tru Costco, If I use Bush's Plan D that $480.00 becomes $350.00, nice savings, If I get my meds tru Canada that becomes $102.00. So I ordered from Canada, arrest me.

walt....would you please clean up all the sarcasm that you left here with this post....a great one by the way.
and I admit it too. in married life, in that galaxy far away, we had to have a shot for personal reasons that was 100 bucks pop from here and getting it from mexico was 30 bucks a pop. I wont tell you if I went down there or not but for three weeks after giving her the shot I was puking and itching.

and tfd brings up an interesting point to this.
so we raise hell and attack people when they use cheap labor for certain things but when it comes to paying these people cheap for health stuff its all okay and an endorsement of hillarycareII or obamamania for health???
so shouldnt we be as concerned about the white coat hondurans as we are the teenage shoemakers working all weekend? hhhhhhmmmmm

"Over 3 people have been spotted fleeing the United States in order to find better Health Care in Canada,..."

That Canadian system is absolutely wonderful! We need to elect a democrat so that we can get one that is identical for the U.S. See this testimonial and you'll be for "universal" health care too.

www.freemarketcure.com

sorry for what some of you would call spam but it applies to both threads.
so lets get this straight. its more than okay to outscource healthcare but you raise hell when its passports. just wanting to know whats okay and whats not.

"universally poor" health care. Health care for the universally poor. The medicare is going broke and you people want to give these people more power and money. You people are stupid. Universally poor is what we will all be.

as an American, i think we are lazy and over paid. we want the crops picked, but we wont do it for less than 60 grand a year. when some one from out of the country will do it for cheaper then were out sourcing America.what happened to an honest days work for an honest days pay. oh yea, fuck nafta.

its more than okay to outscource healthcare but you raise hell when its passports. just wanting to know whats okay and whats not.

You Nitwit first not many would go offshore if they could afford to do it here an they sure aren't doing it for Profit.

Yeah, I see that.

Well, before that it had been a long time before Rcade dumped anything.

I need to step up the rhetoric. I haven't had a dump at all this week.

Somebody start a thread about something that will really piss me off so I can get some dumps.

Constipation sucks.

Constipation sucks.

POSTED BY WHATSLEFT AT 2008-03-29 11:29 AM | REPLY | FLAG:

No such thing as constipation in Afghanistan for an expat. The 2-step here is a whole lot different than in Texas. Here, when you have the 2 Step, it means you are never 2 steps away from the toilet. WTMI I know, but just so you know.

Besides you are a shit for brains so of course you would make that comment. Fag.

Surely that will pick a fight.

Cheers,
Walt

Hmmm, I wonder why he wouldn't pay the extortion fees for insurance? You'd think even a former investment banker could afford insurance.

As extensive health care in this country changes to being provided to only those who can afford it, the choice for those who cannot afford care will be to go else ware, or die sooner.

I had a friend who had done well for himself in his own business. He was worth at least 3M. He decided that since he was reasonably well off he would not buy health insurance, and just pay as he went. He was proud of that financial independence. Last year his wife had to have major surgery. Now he does have insurance. Of course, it doesn't cover any of the conditions that may be related to the surgery. Now he's talking about getting a job because his wifes condition has mostly cleaned him out.

Here, when you have the 2 Step, it means you are never 2 steps away from the toilet.

It probably doesn't help that YOU wipe and eat with the same hand, sans paper.

Of course, it doesn't cover any of the conditions that may be related to the surgery. Now he's talking about getting a job because his wifes condition has mostly cleaned him out.

So I should pay for it? Sounds reasonable. Fag.

Cheers,
Walt

Fag.

That word seems to bother Cons much more then Libs, even though it's mostly Cons who have a wide stance in the public bathrooms.

So who should pay for it not fag?

Last year his wife had to have major surgery.

Now he wants me to pay for it? Fuck him.

Now he wants me to pay for it? Fuck him.

Where did I say he wants YOU to pay for it, dumbshit?

Do you think his insurance should be able to exclude pre-existing conditions?

Why do surgeries cost so much here in the US? Just try to sue the doctors in India.

OK Nanc and Jestgettinitwrongyou both post to the definitive truth using thislink

www.freemarketcure.com

about the allegedly inferior health care system. Please explain one thing please.

In the two women segment this poor guy in Ontario

who had sex change surgery in 2006 and is suffering because of the waiting list to have it completed.

How could she/it had the surgery and be on the waiting list to have it finished when ONTARIO DE-LISTED SEX CHANGE SURGERY MORE THAN TEN YEARS AGO.
www.ctv.ca

"Ontario's Tory government stopped funding sex-reassignment procedures, which reconstruct the genitalia, in October 1998 on the grounds the operations weren't medically necessary."

YOUR LINK IS BULLSHIT.Actors, not patients and writers that never did their research.

I guess you have to lie when in fact professional studies show that Canadians actually have a better system overall,at a lower cost.

www.openmedicine.ca

Despite the limitations of the available studies, some robust conclusions are possible from our systematic review. These results are incompatible with the hypothesis that American patients receive consistently better care than Canadians. Americans are not, therefore, getting value for money; the 89% higher per-capita expenditures on health care in the United States does not buy superior outcomes for the sick.

Canadian health care has many well-publicized limitations. Nevertheless, it produces health benefits similar, or perhaps superior, to those of the US health system, but at a much lower cost. Canada's single-payer system for physician and hospital care yields large administrative efficiencies in comparison with the American multi-payer model.60 Not-for-profit hospital funding results in appreciably lower payments to third-party payers in comparison to for-profit hospitals61 while achieving lower mortality rates.62 Policy debates and decisions regarding the direction of health care in both Canada and the United States should consider the results of our systematic review: Canada's single-payer system, which relies on not-for-profit delivery, achieves health outcomes that are at least equal to those in the United States at two-thirds the cost.

I have always been involved in this debate simply because I have been under both types of systems, both in the UK and in the US. What the rabid "anti" national health care people tend to forget (or conveniently ignore cause it suits their purpose) is that under the NHS in the UK you can CHOOSE which health care you get. If you have the money you can CHOOSE to go "private" and pay for it. However, if you do not have the money you go NHS. My mother had to have a particular procedure done and was told that she would have to wait under the NHS. As she did not want to wait she CHOSE to pay for it and had it done privately. Under the current system in the US there is simply no choice its take it or leave it. As I said before we had a client who was not "indigent" because he worked, but he did not have health insurance. He went to the hospital with chest pain, they did all the tests etc., and was told that he needed three bypasses. The cardiologist arrived, checked him out and discharged him from the hospital because he had neither the insurance nor the cash to pay him for the surgery. The doctor refused to do a life saving surgery because he had no guarantee of being paid. I really want someone to come on here and DEFEND that.

Happy to.

If the guy can't afford it he doesn't get the treatment. Just like you can't drive out with a brand new Rolls Royce anytime you want one. If you can't afford it, you don't get it. What is so hard to understand about that?

Just like it is not up to me to pay for your Rolls Royce, it is not up to me to pay for your triple bypass surgery.

People get old and sick and die. It is not up to the government to ensure an unlimited supply of life.

Best of British,
Walt

Walt - there is a huge difference between driving a Roll Royce and continuing to live because of surgery. I do not believe that a doctor has a right to deny a person life saving surgery because of money. Period.

I do not believe that a doctor has a right to deny a person life saving surgery because of money. Period.

Why not? Hospitals are businesses just like any other. They have to make a profit to stay in business or the people who can actually afford the treatment won't have access. Just like a grocery store can deny a starving person from getting groceries.

Walt-
Because to a doctor - or really to anyone with a soul and a mind - to not render aid to a dying man when you are entirely able to do so, is murder.

No. I am probably not voting for him because he is a traitor who wants to throw open the borders. Same goes for Hitlary and Oblahma.

If I learn that he favors Socialist Medicine, I almost definitely won't vote for him.
