You are correct Sniper, but without the government being involved none of these projects could ever get off the ground. The scope of most of these projects is to large for anything other than the federal government. And as with the interstate highway system, a new power grid could and probably would be built by private contractors.

As far as blowing money on pet projects, I am pretty sure I heard Obama talk about rebuilding our nations infrastructure. This sounds like a perfect project to get started rebuilding, and doesn't sound like a waste of money to me.

Many times the government has done great things. Things like the space program, the interstate highway system, and the Manhattan project to name a few. Given the correct leadership and public motivation this country can do great things through government.

I agree with Oohrah. I don't blame them for trying to protect their own intrests, and as long as people are willing to pay the outrages prices for tickets to see a game, they will continue to be overpaid crybabies.

2F4U, I don't deny that engineers make decent salaries, but that is not really what I was saying. It is not if the salary is enough to live on, it is if the salary makes up for the difficulty of the degree. In the case of engineers the current pay rate is not enough of an incentive to become and engineer. The market has spoken.

2F4U, Schools don't choose what degree a student gets, the student does. The fact that there is a shortage of engineers tells you that the market has decided not to pay engineers enough. An engineering degree is a difficult series of courses, relative to say a business degree. When engineers are paid and given opportunity commiserate with the degree, then the shortage will end.

It is a global market, and the quality of the college education that one can get in the USA is still as good or better than much of the rest of the world.

You want to treat education just like any other commodity RiR, then we should just send all of the college students in America over to India, and China for school. It would be a lot cheaper, right? Hopefully it would help the bottom line of some corporate stocks. And then we could just import all of the educated people we need to run our companies.

All wheel drive on an electric car could be as simple a putting a motor on each wheel. Obviously you need to design the car from the ground up for this as the mechanics and balance of such a vehicle are so much different, but I read somewhere that a Japanese company is working on this very thing.

I don't get it. Who do the republicans expect to pay the bills? Tax the poor? You can't get blood from a stone. Tax the middle class? Many middle class citizen are hanging on by their fingernails now.
