A great man has departed, too few like him. I remember when most Americans considered him to be a traitor and I also remember when they realized he was right. My own father, a 30 year Navy man, made that transition. The Vietnam war was, as I have posted before, the most important event since WWII and divided the nation between us realists and those who cling to American exceptionalism as if it is actually real.

The great pity is the same mistake was perpetrated but a few years later in the disasterous declaration of war on Iraq and all that that entails.
