I advocate a Constitutional Convention for the sole purpose of restoring our representation to the ratio that existed prior to the fixing of of the number of members in the US House of Representatives to 435. By the old ratio we'd have 1500, and since they don't fit in the Capitol, I know of some land in the Dakotas where the soil is saline alkali and good for nothing but building a new House of Representatives.

That would split up the Parties and make lobbying a whole lot less glamorous.

Actually the only way to block the straits would be to sink a string of large vessels across the straits to impede navigation. Depths range from 20-25 fathoms or about 300 feet max. Highly improbable given the number of large vessels required.

It's more efficient to add solar facilities to existing powerplants due to the advantage of the infrastructure and distribution networks. Large consumers of electricity - like industrial plants - can also gain an advantage, but covering your roof with solar panels would not be cost effective because you'd need battery storage.

The Coskata plant in Pennsylvania is a pilot project used to refine the production techniques. The plant is modular so it can be mass produced. Further it can also use solid waste from sewage treatment plants so it is not dependent on wood chips.

The fact is we need a diverse mix of technologies. There's no single solution that addresses all our needs. The goal, however, is to eliminate our dependence on imported oil, and what works in a metropolitan area may be adverse to the needs in rural areas.

Of course the farsighted strategy of the Bush Administration has now placed a moratorium on solar facilities on public land for "environmental" reasons. When you realize that most of the land out west is owned by the federal government, and private land is very expensive, this action inhibits future development, as it is designed to do.

Here in the Heartland we have firearms. Those of us who hunted, served in the military, and enjoy shooting as a sport or skill not only own them but yes, we actually keep them in the house.
