They're too busy trying to survive the party's internal purge and avoid being shipped off to political Siberia. Will loyal members inform on others for harboring suspiciously moderate views? Will anyone judged guilty have to wear a sign saying "Republican In Name Only" as penance? Will there be re-education camps? Will deviationists face the Enhanced Interrogation Technique of being forced to listen to the wit and wisdom of Glenn Beck, at ear-splitting volume, for days on end? Or worse: When Sarah Palin's memoir, "Going Rogue," hits bookstores later this month, will the ideologically impure be required to read -- and commit to memory -- every golden word?

Doctors Sold Newborns After Saying They Died

Three doctors and a nurse have been arrested for allegedly selling newborns after telling their mothers they had died. Police uncovered the scheme after one of the women learnt her baby was alive and had been sold to a woman for 15,000 pesos ($1240), said Mexico City's deputy attorney general, Luis Genaro. The woman gave birth to a girl through caesarean section at the private Central West Hospital in a working-class district in October 2008, Mr Genaro said.

Murdered Student's Parents Get $29K Bill From Hospital

The Bay Area parents of a California State University, Sacramento student who was beaten to death by a dorm mate were still reeling with shock when they received another jolt.

Gerald and Elizabeth Hawkins said ten days after their son Scott died they got a bill sent to their Santa Clara home for $29,186.50 from UC Davis Medical Center.

The bill from the hospital details the hospital's effort to revive the 23-year-old student.

The parents said the bill also implied that they were indigent, saying they had not paid what they owed.

"It was just awful," Elizabeth Hawkins said. Gerald Hawkins added, "I don't think there's any civilized country, anywhere in the world that would allow the parents of a murdered boy to receive a bill like this."

Bachmann's Teabaggers Cause A Ruckus

Right-wing wacky lawmaker, Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) planned an anti-health care reform tea party rally on the steps of the Capitol building on Thursday. The event to fight the "crown jewel of socialism," was endorsed and promoted by Fox News and funded by the Astroturf corporate lobbying groups Americans for Prosperity (AFP) and Dick Armey's FreedomWorks.

About 4,000 tea party protesters transported in free buses provided by AFP, shouted "kill the bill" carrying signs questioning Obama's birth certificate, calling him a Marxist and offensively comparing health care reform to the Holocaust.

Ted Haggard Starts New Church

75% of Young Americans Unfit for Military Duty

The latest Army statistics show that 75 percent of military-age youth are ineligible to join the military because they are overweight, can't pass entrance exams, have dropped out of high school or had run-ins with the law. So many young people between the prime recruiting ages of 17 and 24 cannot meet minimum standards that a group of retired military leaders is calling for early childhood education to combat the insidious effects of junk food and inadequate education. "We've never had this problem of young people being obese like we have today," said Gen. John Shalikashvili, former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

Italy Convicts 23 Americans for CIA Renditions

An Italian judge convicted a CIA station chief and 22 other Americans accused of being CIA agents Wednesday of kidnapping in the 2003 abduction of a Muslim cleric from the streets of Milan. A symbolic victory, the case was the first ever to contest the United States practice of rendition, in which terrorism suspects are captured in one country and taken for questioning in another more open to torture.

Four Murdered in Mayberry

An arrest has been made after four men were killed in a parking lot in Mount Airy, the small North Carolina town that was the inspiration for Mayberry in television's The Andy Griffith Show. Marcos Chavez Gonzalez was charged with four counts of murder in the shooting late Sunday outside a TV store, police said. Mount Airy, population 8,700, is the hometown of Andy Griffith and has built a tourist trade on nostalgia for the 1960s show that continues to thrive in syndication.

Bush on Bin Laden: 'I Guess He Is Not Dead'

Eight years ago, President Bush asserted that al Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden would be taken "dead or alive." "I don't care, dead or alive either way," Bush said at the time. This weekend, while attending a conference of business leaders in New Delhi, India, Bush struck a different tone. Asked whether al-Qaida chief Osama bin Laden could be alive, Bush said "I guess he is not dead." He, however, noted that Laden is hiding and "not leading victory parades" or "espousing his cause" on TV. He expressed confidence that Laden will be brought to justice which "he deserves to be" and it was a matter of time.

Former New York Police Commissioner Bernard Kerik is displaying worrisome, risky behavior in jail, a federal judge said Friday after speaking with the jail's psychiatric director.

The former Homeland Security nominee's specific actions and symptoms were not revealed, and lawyers and jail officials wouldn't comment on specifics, including whether Kerik was on a suicide watch.

Judge Stephen Robinson said at a pretrial session Friday in U.S. District Court that he received a memo from Dr. Robert Mahler, medical psychiatric director of the Westchester County jail in Valhalla, then spoke with the doctor by phone. The doctor reportedly said Kerik, 54, was "at risk."

Pakistani soldiers battling their way into a Taliban stronghold along the Afghan border have seized passports that may be linked to 9/11 suspects, as they confront an enemy skilled in operating in a mountainous terrain with endless ways to wage a guerrilla war.

The military on Thursday took foreign and local journalists for a first look inside the largely lawless territory since it launched a ground offensive here in mid-October. The U.S.-backed operation is focused on a section of the tribal region where the Pakistani Taliban are based and are believed to shelter al-Qaida.
