What Fonda didn't say -- and what should trouble conservatives about the amendment -- is that it represents exactly what they hate about goverment playing a big role in health care: dictating to citizens what medical procedures they may or may not have. It is the ultimate case of politicians interfering in matters that would otherwise be left to doctors and patients.

It seems totally obvious.

But conservatives are blind about that when it might possibly further their anti-choice agenda.

Detroit Getting New Daily Newspaper

A new daily newspaper is being launched in the Detroit area, where the two largest newspapers have reduced home delivery to survive in a struggling industry. Brothers Mark and Gary Stern said Friday they'll start publishing the Detroit Daily Press on Nov. 23, selling it for 50 cents daily and $1 on Sundays. Home delivery starts Nov. 30 in Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties.

Napolitano: Immigration Overhaul Expected in 2010

Supremes Asked to Boot Hillary

Judges on the U.S. Supreme Court are being asked to boot Hillary Clinton from her position as U.S. secretary of state in a lawsuit that charges her appointment violated the U.S. Constitution. Judicial Watch, the public interest group that monitors and investigates government corruption, confirmed it has filed a notice of appeal of its case to the nation's highest court. The lawsuit asserts Clinton is ineligible for the post because the Constitution, Article I, Section 6, states: "No Senator or Representative shall, during the Time for which he was elected, be appointed to any civil Office under the Authority of the United States, which shall have been created, or the Emoluments whereof shall have been encreased during such time."

Yesterday I heard on the local news that Michigan lottery officials were concerned about people playing the number 1111 in the state's Daily 4 lottery game. Apparently, if that number won, they would have had to pay out $40 million.

Call me naive, but I wasn't aware that the lottery comission keeps track of what numbers people buy or don't buy. I think this is disturbing. When people go to a casino they are kicked out if they are found to be counting cards. Yet the sate can keep statistics on how many people buy which numbers?

African slavery apology 'needed'

Traditional African rulers should apologise for the role they played in the slave trade, a Nigerian rights group has said in a letter to chiefs.

"We cannot continue to blame the white men, as Africans particularly the traditional rulers, are not blameless," said the Civil Rights Congress.

The letter said some collaborated or actively sold off their subjects.

The group said it was time for African leaders to copy the US and the UK who have already said they were sorry.

So here's the bottom line -- skip any donations to the DCCC. Their first priority is incumbent retention, and they're (necessarily) issue agnostic. They'll be dumping millions into defending these seats. Instead, give to those elected officials who best reflect your values.
