Air Pollution May Reduce Global Warming

      <wordzilla:destination>http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/8013709.stm</wordzilla:destination>

Air pollution may be helping the fight against global warming by enhancing the ability of plants to absorb carbon dioxide, scientists say. Since the 1960s, increased levels of atmospheric pollution have enhanced plant productivity by as much as one quarter, research has found. In terms of carbon dioxide, this means that an extra 10% has been stored in the soil.

<wordzilla:extended>It is a common assumption that plants grow best in clear sunny weather, but research has shown that forests and crops can also thrive in hazy conditions because clouds and particles in the atmosphere scatter sun light so that it bathes more leaves.</wordzilla:extended>

Homely British singing sensation Susan Boyle has been offered $1 million to make a porn flick.<p> The plain Jane superstar with the spellbinding voice would have to lose her virginity on camera to earn the seven-figure payday from Los Angeles-based Kick Ass Films. <p>"We want to get this movie shot and out while Susan has the world's attention," said Kick Ass boss Mark Kulkis. "Besides, after 47 years of virginity, I'm sure Susan is also anxious to get something cracking as soon as possible." <p>Boyle, who says she's never been kissed let alone bedded, has taken the entire world by storm since she appeared on the American Idol-style TV show "Britain's Got Talent."

      <wordzilla:destination>http://thenononsenseman.mensnewsdaily.com/2009/04/20/rebranding-manhood-marc-h-rudov/</wordzilla:destination>

Fathers Are Mere Tenants<p>The manhood brand is dead, kaput, and that is no accident. Men, who built the legal and physical infrastructure of this country from scratch, have, over the past 36 years, chosen to allow women to marginalize and overshadow them. It's as though the entire history of men was written on an Etch-a-Sketch and then shaken until erased. Maria Shriver, wife of The Terminator, has proclaimed America a woman's nation, and she is right. How pathetic.

Anger at corporate executives flying around in their fancy jets is causing many of the people who make their living off of manufacturing them to lose their jobs. Corporate jets are like corporate offices in the sky, allowing the executives to be more productive. "These are not tools of the devil, these are not tools of evil," said aviation consultant Mike Boyd. "Business jets are a very important asset for my company."

My Challenge to the Teabaggers

      <wordzilla:destination>http://www.drudge.com/news/120001/my-challenge-teabaggers</wordzilla:destination>

To those of you who went out and participated in a Tea Party this past April 15, to those of you who wanted to go, but couldn't because your work schedule prevented it, to those who sympathize in any way with the Teabaggers, I issue the following challenge:

<wordzilla:extended>PUT YOU BALLOT WHERE YOUR MOUTH IS!
<p>If you really are concerned about the loss of freedom and an out-of-control government that will spend us into bankruptcy, then quit sending the same people to Washington year after year. I challenge you to quit voting for the Republican and Democratic parties. I am a Libertarian so obviously I would urge you to vote Libertarian, but if for whatever reasons you don't like the LP then do some research, educate yourself and vote for any other third-party that is more to your liking.
<p>This may mean that when you vote you leave some parts of the ballot blank since third-parties oftentimes can't run a full slate of candidates. Well, so be it, there is no law prohibiting people from leaving parts of the ballot blank, it is a free country after all. If you can't stand the thought of leaving part of the ballot blank, then vote for the challenger. The point is, let's kick the incumbents out of office.
<p>If you don't feel like taking the courageous leap into a third party, then at least participate in your party's primary and vote for the challenger. People don't realize how powerful primary elections can be in shaping a political party's policies. Don't keep sending the same jokers to Washington, D.C. and to your state capitals year after year.
<p>Do something different. Protesting in the streets and then voting for the same people is counterproductive in the same way as putting one foot on the breaks and the other on the gas pedal. So take your foot off the gas pedal and let's put a stop to this out-of-control government that threatens our individual liberties and our future prosperity.</wordzilla:extended>

Kathleen Leavey, who served briefly as the city of Detroit's corporation counsel before she was forced to step down over a "ghetto court" remark, filed a federal lawsuit Tuesday against the city, the 36th District Court and Chief Judge Marylin Atkins. Leavey, who is white, alleges race discrimination and that she was retaliated against for exercising her rights of free speech. Leavey resigned as interim corporation counsel in January, shortly after telling a 36th District Court official the court acted like a "ghetto court."

The University of Maryland, College Park will retain its tradition of offering a prayer before its commencement exercises, university President C.D. Mote Jr. said Thursday. His decision to maintain the two-minute prayer and moment of silence runs counter to a recommendation this week from the University Senate, which voted 32-14 to stop it. The Senate is composed of students, faculty and staff, and advises Mote on major issues. Senators had said the prayer was noninclusive and not appropriate for a public institution. But in a statement, Mote said, "For many people, a prayer of gratitude and a moment of reflection are an important part of our commencement tradition."
