Americans 'snapping' by the millions

      <wordzilla:destination>http://www.wnd.com/2013/04/americans-snapping-by-the-millions/</wordzilla:destination>

Terrorism. Chaos. Fear of the future. In the age of Obama, America is undergoing a "fundamental transformation" &#150; that much everyone knows. What on earth is going on? Why isn't medical science &#150; and for that matter all of our incredible scientific and technological innovations in every area of life &#150; reducing our stress and lightening our load? Why doesn't the almost-magical availability of the world's accumulated knowledge, thanks to the Internet, make us more enlightened and happy? Why is it that, instead, more and more of us are so stressed out as to be on a collision course with illness, misery, tragedy and death?

<wordzilla:extended>"Life is difficult," wrote psychiatrist M. Scott Peck at the outset of his international best-seller, "The Road Less Traveled." Stress, difficulties, disappointments, accidents, disease, misfortune, cruelty, betrayal &#150; they're unavoidable in this life. Yet, during eras when society and families are stable, unified and fundamentally decent and moral &#150; as, say, America during the 1950s &#150; the stress level for each person is minimized, or at least not compounded by a perverse society. Conversely, when &#150; as is the case today &#150; we have widespread family breakdown, a depraved culture that mocks traditional moral values, a chaotic economy and disintegrating monetary system and a power-mad government dominated by demagogues and sociopaths, the normal stresses of life are greatly multiplied.</wordzilla:extended>

<wordzilla:extended>A number of colleges and businesses, such as Applebee's and Olive Garden, have taken similar measures in order to cope with health care costs. Other business are passing the costs onto the customers.</wordzilla:extended>

More than 700 Texas educators take concealed handgun class

      <wordzilla:destination>http://www.foxnews.com/us/2013/04/07/hundreds-texas-educators-take-free-handgun-class/</wordzilla:destination>

"It went from 20 to 30 teachers to the more than 700 we have here today. It just exploded with Chris' involvement," Dalworthington Gardens Police Chief Bill Waybourn told the paper.<p>Teachers from across the state and at least one representative from each school district in North Texas attended the class, which was organized in response to the school shooting in Newtown, Conn., according to the report.

<wordzilla:extended>Last week, the Texas Senate Education Committee approved a plan to train armed teachers for gunfights in classrooms or at campus sporting events or board meetings.
<p>Texas already allows teachers and other school personnel who have previously been certified to carry concealed weapons to do so in classrooms with the permission of their local school districts.
<p>The bill's sponsor, Houston Republican Sen. Dan Patrick, said only three school boards statewide allow that, but others have authorization pending.
<p>The proposal calls for 16 hours of training to instruct teachers how to first conceal children during an attack, and then return fire. It would apply to charter schools as well as public schools that don't already employ armed guards.</wordzilla:extended>

      <wordzilla:destination>http://www.stripes.com/news/army-suspends-tuition-assistance-program-for-troops-1.210999</wordzilla:destination>

The Army announced Friday it is suspending its tuition assistance program for soldiers newly enrolling in classes due to sequestration and other budgetary pressures. "This suspension is necessary given the significant budget execution challenges caused by the combined effects of a possible year-long continuing resolution and sequestration," Paul Prince, an army personnel spokesman at the Pentagon, wrote in an email to Stars and Stripes. "The Army understands the impacts of this action and will re-evaluate should the budgetary situation improve."

North Korea on Thursday vowed to launch a pre-emptive nuclear strike against the United States, amplifying its threatening rhetoric hours ahead of a vote by U.N. diplomats on whether to level new sanctions against Pyongyang for its recent nuclear test. "Intercontinental ballistic missiles and various other missiles, which have already set their striking targets, are now armed with lighter, smaller and diversified nuclear warheads and are placed on a standby status," Army Gen. Kang Pyo Yong told a mass rally in Pyongyang. "When we shell (the missiles), Washington, which is the stronghold of evils, .... will be engulfed in a sea of fire."

<wordzilla:extended>A January story in the <a href="http://www.csmonitor.com/USA/DC-Decoder/2013/0124/Could-North-Korea-hit-the-US-with-a-missile">Christian Science Monitor</a> assessed whether North Korea has the capability to reach the U.S. with a long-range nuclear missile. Most experts say no.</wordzilla:extended>
