US May Reopen Embassy in Iran

      <wordzilla:destination>http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2008/jul/17/usa.iran</wordzilla:destination>

In a dramatic shift of Bush administration policy, the US plans to establish a diplomatic presence in Tehran, the first step in establishing a full embassy in Iran for the first time since the hostage crisis in 1979.

<wordzilla:extended>Fer the first time since 1979 there are plans to put a US embassy back in Tehran. Ha! Is the first time Bush has been right about anything in seven and a half years and it's an idea he stole from Obama. That poor bastard Bush still thinks he has a shot at achieving some kind of a laudable legacy. He's so wrong.</wordzilla:extended>

Obama: My Plan for Iraq

      <wordzilla:destination>http://www.nytimes.com/2008/07/14/opinion/14obama.html</wordzilla:destination>

Barack Obama explains in a New York Times op-ed piece why making the transition to handing power back to the Iraqis in a timely mannner is winning in Iraq and why John McCain's plan for staying in Iraq is both counterproductive in the real war against violent terrorism and ultimately unsustainable.

<wordzilla:extended>From the article: "In this campaign, there are honest differences over Iraq, and we should discuss them with the thoroughness they deserve. Unlike Senator McCain, I would make it absolutely clear that we seek no presence in Iraq similar to our permanent bases in South Korea, and would redeploy our troops out of Iraq and focus on the broader security challenges that we face. But for far too long, those responsible for the greatest strategic blunder in the recent history of American foreign policy have ignored useful debate in favor of making false charges about flip-flops and surrender.

Its not going to work this time. Its time to end this war."

Emphasis Spud's.

Be Well.</wordzilla:extended>

John McLaughlin Describes Obama as "An Oreo"

      <wordzilla:destination>http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2008/07/14/mclaughlin-takes-heat-for-oreo-comment/</wordzilla:destination>

(CNN) Longtime Washington talk-show host John McLaughlin is facing fire Monday for referring to Barack Obama as an "Oreo" during a segment on his Sunday political program, "The McLaughlin Group"

<wordzilla:extended>Is there a more inelegant and innapropriate way to try and make the trite and offensive non-point over whether Obama is "black enuff" than wot John sed?

John luffs being blustery and barking like a mad dawg from time to time on TMG.

Anyone who's watched the show fer more than five minutes will tell you that.

This time his schtick went waaay over the line fer the PC set.

Spud appreciates the context in which it was sed in terms of trying to understand Jesse Jacksons problem with Obama's non-victim oriented view of race relations but still it was dumb.

Props to Michelle Bernard.

FTA: Michelle Bernard, another panelist on the program and the president of the Independent Women's Forum also said she disagreed with the comments, saying "If Barack Obama is an Oreo, then every member of this generation of African-Americans is an Oreo, because we stand on the shoulders of the people who fought for our rights, and all of us say that you cannot blame 'the man' or white racism for everything that ails the black community.

Strewth.

Be Well.</wordzilla:extended>

<wordzilla:extended>Hopefully, when Obama travels to Iraq with Reed and Hagel he will have sommat else to report aside from "5 rugs for 5 bucks" or "safer but not yet safe". Hopefully, there will be no nasty surprises. Be Well.</wordzilla:extended>
