We live in a dangerous world,-- Mr. Bush said. And we need a president who understands the lessons of Sept. 11, 2001: that to protect America, we must stay on the offense, stop attacks before they happen, and not wait to be hit again. The man we need is John McCain.--

Palin's Comical Non-Vetting

IN DEPTH?
In Alaska, very few people were involved in the GOP vetting process.

<wordzilla:extended>Gov. Sarah Palin's reluctant announcement Monday that her unmarried, teenage daughter was within months of making her a grandmother at age 44 also turned a spotlight on Sen. John McCain, who would have Palin as his vice president.

McCain's presidential campaign spent the day trying to assure fellow Republicans and the nation that Palin's background was thoroughly vetted. The pregnancy of Bristol Palin, 17, came as no surprise to them, they said.

But in Alaska, it was hard to find anyone who had been contacted by McCain's campaign.</wordzilla:extended>

GOP Cancels Day 1 of Convention Due to Storm

      <wordzilla:destination>http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/front/5976307.html</wordzilla:destination>

Haunted by the federal government's response to Hurricane Katrina in 2005, Republicans sacrificed tonight's prime-time national convention opening to Hurricane Gustav and turned their concerns to victims and evacuees. "I hope and pray we will be able to resume some of our operations as soon as possible, but frankly, some of that is in the hands of God," McCain said.

<wordzilla:extended>Instead of the prime-time opening night that was to include speeches by President Bush and Vice President Cheney, as well as rhetoric to fire up voters for McCain, the party will spend less than three hours carrying out legal and parliamentary formalities during the afternoon and put the rest of the four-day convention on hold....</wordzilla:extended>

There's no room at the Xcel Energy Center for maverick Ron Paul, so his acolytes have packed their cars, hitched rides on "Ronvoys" and will pitch tents at Ronstock '08 in defiance of next week's GOP convention in St. Paul, Minn.

China's authorities have blocked access to all eight million or so songs in the iTunes music store, apparently because one album -- Songs for Tibet -- doesn't sit well with them.
