A 57-year-old woman allegedly beat another woman with a Bible.

North Carolina native Evelyn Mills Moore was arrested and charged with beating another woman and inflicting serious injury when she allegedly used her fists and a Bible to assault the woman, The Associated Press reports.The victim suffered bruises on her head, face and arms.Moore also was charged with assault after she allegedly struck a man with her fist, causing numerous bruises.

Former South Carolina Democratic party chairman Dick Harpootlian today attempted to clarify remarks he made Friday at the party's Jefferson-Jackson dinner when he assured the audience that the Democratic challenger to GOP governor Nikki Haley would "send her back to wherever the hell she came from."

Many understood Harpootlian's barb to be directed at Haley's ethnicity -- she is the Indian-American daughter of Sikh immigrants. The longtime Democratic activist immediately waved off such criticism, and today told MSNBC, "All I'm suggesting is she needs to go back to being an accountant in a dress store rather than being this fraud of a governor that we have."Haley, who was raised in Bamberg, S.C., previously worked in her parents' clothing business, Exotica International, and took over the bookkeeping there at the age of 13.

The Kochs in recent national elections have provided major financial support to libertarian candidates and causes.

Two months from now, revised government estimates are likely to show that the economy is even bigger than the currently stated $15 trillion.

And while the numbers may make some blink or gasp, the mere size of gross domestic product won't hide the reality that in terms of actual growth, this is also the worst economy in 83 years.

GDP growth is in the midst of its longest sub-3 percent annual growth rate since 1929, the beginning of the Great Depression, according to Bespoke Investment Group. The economy hasn't topped 3 percent since 2005 -- before Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke took over -- and is unlikely to do so this year.

So even if projections are correct that the economy is about 3 percent bigger than thought -- say, another half-trillion dollars -- the U.S. is still stuck in the slow-growth morass it has endured since the beginning of the Great Recession.

But since I am, I'm happy to start the conversation. I wish I wasn't the kid in the classroom raising his hand and saying, "I'm different." If I had my way, someone else would have already done this. Nobody has, which is why I'm raising my hand. ... I realized I needed to go public when Joe Kennedy, my old roommate at Stanford and now a Massachusetts congressman, told me he had just marched in Boston's 2012 Gay Pride Parade. I'm seldom jealous of others, but hearing what Joe had done filled me with envy. I was proud of him for participating but angry that as a closeted gay man I couldn't even cheer my straight friend on as a spectator. If I'd been questioned, I would have concocted half truths. What a shame to have to lie at a celebration of pride.

Body Found Floating Near Tidal Basin

WASHINGTON (CBSDC) -- The body of a man was pulled from the Potomac River near the Roosevelt Memorial early Thursday morning.

Authorities say a US Park Police officer discovered the body floating in the Tidal Basin around 1 a.m.

The identity of the man was not immediately know. Authorities only say the deceased is an adult male.
