Support the Insurance Industry--You can trust Them

      <wordzilla:destination>http://consumerist.com/2010/03/insurance-company-intentionally-targeted-dropped-hiv-patients.html</wordzilla:destination>

If you're not familiar with the concept of rescission, it's a lovely business practice of health insurance companies in which they examine patients records to find a reason to "rescind" coverage after finding out that a customer has a life-threatening illness. This saves them money. That's not news. What is news is that according to new documents revealed in a court case, one insurer "Fortis" (now known as Assurant Health) specifically targeted people who were newly diagnosed with HIV.

How Our Invasion Helped Iraqi Women

      <wordzilla:destination>http://www.middle-east-online.com/english/?id=37856</wordzilla:destination>

Under Saddam Hussein, women in government got a year's maternity leave; that is now cut to six months. Under the Personal Status Law in force since Jul. 14, 1958, when Iraqis overthrew the British-installed monarchy, Iraqi women had most of the rights that Western women do.

<wordzilla:extended>Now they have Article 2 of the Constitution: "Islam is the official religion of the state and is a basic source of legislation." Sub-head A says "No law can be passed that contradicts the undisputed rules of Islam." Under this Article the interpretation of women's rights is left to religious leaders and many of them are under Iranian influence.

High School Cancels Prom to Bar Lesbians

      <wordzilla:destination>http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/us_lesbian_prom_date</wordzilla:destination>

A northern Mississippi school district decided Wednesday not to host a high school prom after a lesbian student demanded she be able to attend with her girlfriend and wear a tuxedo. The Itawamba County school district's policy requires that senior prom dates be of the opposite sex. The American Civil Liberties Union of Mississippi had given the district until Wednesday to change that policy and allow 18-year-old Constance McMillen to escort her girlfriend, who is also a student, to the dance on April 2.

ACLU Sues School Over Cancelled Prom

      <wordzilla:destination>http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/us_lesbian_prom_date</wordzilla:destination>

JACKSON, Miss. Constance McMillen didn't believe her Mississippi school district would really call off her senior prom rather than allow her to show up with her girlfriend and wear a tuxedo. On Thursday, a day after the Itawamba County school board did just that, the 18-year-old lesbian high school senior reluctantly returned to campus to some unfriendly looks, she said.

<wordzilla:extended>The district announced Wednesday it wouldn't host the April 2 prom. The decision came after the American Civil Liberties Union demanded that officials change a policy banning same-sex prom dates because it violated students' rights. And the ACLU said the district not letting McMillen wear a tuxedo violated her free expression rights.
<p>The ACLU filed a lawsuit in U.S. District Court in Oxford to force the school district to sponsor the prom and allow McMillen to bring whom she chooses and wear what she wants.</wordzilla:extended>

      <wordzilla:destination>http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/2819116/UFO-is-spotted-over-Dublin.html</wordzilla:destination>

AMAZING footage of a UFO has been taken in Ireland - as The Sun re-launches the nation's X-Files. A triangular formation of lights was filmed flying at night at "incredible speed". <p>Experts reckon the sighting near the River Liffey in Dublin could be a secret aircraft - or spacecraft.

<wordzilla:extended>Nick Pope, who probed mystery sightings for the MoD for three years, said: "The video seems to have been taken through a night scope and presumably shows things not visible to the naked eye.
<p>"It appears to show a structured craft moving at incredible speed. The configuration of the lights is unlike any aircraft I've ever seen.
<p>"It's either some secret prototype aircraft or drone, or something considerably more exotic."</wordzilla:extended>

Washington (CNN) -- The Supreme Court has given big business, unions and nonprofits more power to spend freely in federal elections, a major turnaround that threatens a century of government efforts to regulate the power of corporations to bankroll American politics.

Limbaugh Uses Haiti to Attack Obama

      <wordzilla:destination>http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/01/14/limbaugh-weve-already-don_n_422958.html</wordzilla:destination>

Well, it didn't take long for conservative firebrand Rush Limbaugh to use the crisis in Haiti to attack President Obama politically. On his radio show yesterday Limbaugh said the earthquake in Haiti will play right into Obama's hands by allowing him to play up his "compassionate" and "humanitarian" credentials, and that the President will use this crisis to "boost his credibility with the black community."

<wordzilla:extended>As if that weren't enough, Limbaugh also pivoted off a caller who complained about Obama directing the public to the White House website to find charitable organizations operating in Haiti to promote a conspiracy theory that finding these charities via the White House website puts your money at risk of not reaching Haitians.
<p>Limbaugh also seems to feel we've done enough already for Haiti: "We've already donated to Haiti. It's called the U.S. income tax."</wordzilla:extended>

A retirement community in Pinellas Park, Florida, has gone to court to evict Kimberly Broffman, a 6-year-old being raised by her grandparents because her mother has drug problems. The child, who has lived in the house her whole life, may be placed by authorities in foster care because having children in the homes violates homeowners association rules.

<wordzilla:extended>One woman, who looks like she's about to start talking boot-straps, cruelly states that Kimberly should be ejected from her home. And the president of the homeowners association looks positively gleeful as he discusses the prospect of getting sheriffs to forcibly remove the small girl. He says in response to a question about who will take Kimberly:
<p><b>"No, the sheriff will. I will merely be the President of the Board who is trying to enforce the policies of our association that she agreed to when she moved in.</b></wordzilla:extended>
