Troop Withdrawal Timeline /Final Bush Flip-Flop?

      <wordzilla:destination>http://blogs.cqpolitics.com/davidcorn/2008/11/bushs-final-defeat-in-iraq.html</wordzilla:destination>

Given that Bush had repeatedly vowed that he would not agree to any timetable for withdrawing U.S. troops from Iraq--claiming that making such a commitment would endanger the United States and its soldiers--his decision to do so is the equivalent of raising a white flag.

Doctors Grow Windpipe from Stem Cells

      <wordzilla:destination>http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20081119/ap_on_he_me/eu_med_windpipe_transplant</wordzilla:destination>

Doctors have given a woman a new windpipe with tissue grown from her own stem cells, eliminating the need for anti-rejection drugs. "This technique has great promise," said Dr. Eric Genden, who did a similar transplant in 2005 at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York. That operation used both donor and recipient tissue. Only a handful of windpipe, or trachea, transplants have ever been done.

5 Myths About the Election

      <wordzilla:destination>http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/11/13/AR2008111303287_pf.html</wordzilla:destination>

The 2008 presidential election ended less than two weeks ago, but the mythmaking machine has already begun to churn. President-elect Barack Obama transformed the face of the electorate! The Republican Party will be a miserable minority in Congress for the next century! Cats and dogs are now living together! Below we explode the five biggest myths that have already sprung up around the election that was.
1. The Republican Party suffered a death blow.2. A wave of black voters and young people was the key to Obama's victory.3. Now that they control the White House and Congress, Democrats will usher in a new progressive era.4. A Republican candidate could have won the presidency this year.5. McCain made a huge mistake in picking Sarah Palin.

Should the Dem Primary System be Changed?

      <wordzilla:destination>http://www.drudge.com/</wordzilla:destination>

In the wake of Obamas landslide victory, it is hard to think that the dem primary system put out the weakest candidate the dems had to offer. However, there is the contention that the country was in such bad shape, and that McCain with his clown running mate was the worst rep ticket in a century. Add in the economic crisis, and the idea is that any dem could have won this election cycle. The point of this thread is to determine if the dems should continue using their current primary system, or if they would be assured of putting forth the strongest candidate by running the primary system like the general election.

      <wordzilla:extended>This is the scenario:

It is 2016, and you have to determine which candidate, of two, to put forth to represent your party.

At the end of the primaries, you have one candidate that is showing in the polls as beating your opponent by 133 Evs, and winning in a landslide of 57 EVs over the amount needed to win.

The other candidate is showing a win also, but is only beating your opponent by 38 EVs, and squeaking out a victory by 6 EVs over the amount needed to win.

Which candidate do you think would have the best chance in November?

Let's go even further.

Same two candidates.

When you compare your two candidates in the primaries, you add up the EVs of the States they won. You find that one candidate won states that added up to 303 EVs, and the other candidate won states whose total was 230 EVs. You also find out that this is the same candidate that is showing the 133 EV lead in the polls.

Which candidate do you think would have the best chance in November?

Let's go even further.

When you compare the two candidates further, you see that one candidate won all the big states your party usually wins, and the other candidate got most of their EVs from states your party usually doesn't win. You discover that this candidate that won all the big states your party usually wins is the same candidate that is shown with the 133 EV lead, and winning 308-230EVs in the primary states.

Which candidate do you think would have the best chance in November?

If you would choose the candidate with the lower numbers, explain your logic.

      <wordzilla:destination>http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5gQaQF39EbtehzlGgDJF34yEYviEwD93F8OD00</wordzilla:destination>

A Texas jury acquitted a man accused of killing an unarmed teen who broke into his home looking for a snack. Jose Luis Gonzalez had endured several break-ins at his trailer when the four boys, ranging in age from 11 to 15, broke in. Gonzalez, who was in a nearby building at the time, went into the trailer and confronted the boys with a 16-gauge shotgun. Then he forced the boys, all unarmed, to their knees.

<wordzilla:extended>The boys say they were begging for forgiveness when Gonzalez hit them with the barrel of the shotgun and kicked them repeatedly. Then, the medical examiner testified, Francisco Anguiano, 13, was shot in the back at close range. Two mashed Twinkies and some cookies were stuffed in the pockets of his shorts.</wordzilla:extended>
