CIA Agent: Iraq War Was 'Done Deal' in 2002

In summer 2002, CIA operative John Kiriakou was working at headquarters in Virginia when he was summoned to a top-secret meeting. He said he was told the Bush administration had decided the United States was going to invade Iraq in the spring -- it was a done deal. His job was to support the mission. Kiriakou said he was dumbfounded. "Here was someone at the CIA, obviously plugged into the plans of the executive branch, telling us that the public debate in Congress, reflected almost daily in the press, meant nothing," he writes in his new book The Reluctant Spy. Months later, Congress passed a war resolution.

Anti-Abortion Group: Pass Senate Health Reform

National Catholic Reporter: Twenty-five pro-life Catholic theologians and Evangelical leaders yesterday sent letters to members of Congress urging them not to let misleading information about abortion provisions in the Senate health care bill block passage of reform. Catholics in Alliance for the Common Good said that the Senate health bill upholds abortion funding restrictions and supports pregnant women. The group asked members of Congress "to make an informed decision about this legislation based on careful deliberation guided by facts."

Beck: Quit Attending 'Social Justice' Churches

Last week, the conservative broadcaster Glenn Beck called on Christians to leave their churches if they hear preaching about social or economic justice, saying they were code words for Communism and Nazism. "I'm begging you, your right to religion and freedom to exercise religion and read all of the passages of the Bible as you want to read them and as your church wants to preach them are going to come under the ropes in the next year," Beck said. "If it lasts that long it will be the next year. I beg you, look for the words 'social justice' or economic justice' on your church Web site. If you find it, run as fast as you can. Social justice and economic justice, they are code words. Now, am I advising people to leave their church? .. YES!"

The controversial "Volcker rule" to curb risky trading by banks got a boost in the Senate on Wednesday, as two Democrats introduced a bill that would enact and expand the rule. Senators Jeff Merkley and Carl Levin introduced their bill on the rule, which was first proposed in January by President Barack Obama and White House economic adviser Paul Volcker, a former Federal Reserve chairman, in a move that stunned financial markets.

That was when Griffith was a Democrat. On Saturday, Griffith will give the Republican radio address on health care some two months after he switched parties to become a Republican.

A panel of 41 scientists from across the world reviewed 20 years' worth of research to try to confirm the cause of the so-called Cretaceous-Tertiary (KT) extinction, which created a "hellish environment" around 65 million years ago and wiped out more than half of all species on the planet -- including dinosaurs. "We now have great confidence that an asteroid was the cause of the KT extinction. This triggered large-scale fires, earthquakes measuring more than 10 on the Richter scale, and continental landslides, which created tsunamis," said Joanna Morgan of Imperial College London, a co-author of the review.
