Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

Clinton has enlisted the aid of Chinese neighborhood associations, especially those representing recent immigrants from Fujian province. The organizations, at least one of which is a descendant of Chinatown criminal enterprises that engaged in gambling and human trafficking, exert enormous influence over immigrants. The associations help them with everything from protection against crime to obtaining green cards.

Many of Clinton's Chinatown donors said they had contributed because leaders in neighborhood associations told them to. In some cases, donors said they felt pressure to give.

As with other campaigns looking for dollars in unpromising places, the Clinton operation also has accepted what it later conceded were improper donations. At least one reported donor denies making a contribution. Another admitted to lacking the legal-resident status required for giving campaign money.

I think its past time for the Democratic candidates to stop treating Hillary as the presumptive nominee and start questioning her about the many controversies surrounding her campaign's fundraising. Already the LA Times has publicized two different corrupt links to Chinese nationals and the Chinese community.

One rightwing blowhard suggested that Obama challenge Hillary not on their policy differences, but instead upon the continuing appearance of ethical issues and scandals tied to the Clintons. I cannot say whether any Democrat will tack in this particular direction, but does anyone doubt the Republicans will be making these issues a prima facia case for rejecting Hillary if she succeeds in winning the nomination?

Unfortunately yet again, we seem to see a Clinton Election Machine working the calculus of 50% + 1, regardless of the potential damage such an equation likely will cause to other Democratic candidates across the board and to the Party's tenuous hold on Congressional majorities.

Tony,

I think the Democratic race is going to tighten up leading into the primaries.

Hillary has a ton of baggage and I do think it'll come up if her poll numbers drop to a point where one of the other hopefuls is within reach.

Plus, she has fat ankles.

Corky will be her shortly to defend her ankles.

Funny, Jeff.

"One rightwing blowhard suggested that Obama challenge Hillary not on their policy differences, but instead upon the continuing appearance of ethical issues and scandals tied to the Clintons. I cannot say whether any Democrat will tack in this particular direction"

Well, we can name one....... you.

Just part of the change candidates' campaign of hope, eh?

As any typical politician who is as far behind as Obama is, he has now hired a gunslinger to do the dirty work while he tries to stay "pure".

No, I don't mean TR.

Interestingly enough, all the things being said about Clinton now were being said about her when she ran for the Senate in NY.

She overcame the negatives with a people to people campaign there, and won in a landslide.

This will be my last post on this thread as I do not wish to add to yet another TR thread based on negative innuendo and worst case insinuations about another Dem.

This will be my last post on this thread as I do not wish to add to yet another TR thread based on negative innuendo and worst case insinuations about another Dem.

Translation: I'm going to continue to stick my head in the sand while clinging to every single poll saying that Hillary is a modern-day Viking goddess, ready willing and able to conquer American politics as I know it.

Bottom line: There wouldn't be negative stories if the Clinton campaign wasn't tied to dubious illegal campaign financing scandals pointing to strong-arm tactics and ghost-donators with neither the will nor financial means of contributing to the Clinton campaign.

Want it to end? Then stop allowing illegal activity in the name of raising campaign cash!

Well, we can name one....

Crooked Hillary
By Quin Hillyer
Published 10/17/2007 12:08:11 AM

... there were the multitudinous examples of skullduggery involving unseemly access for and unseemly and/or illegal campaign contributions from a veritable cornucopia of shadowy Asian businessmen. Hillary, again, was a big player in the whole mess. And Hillary's own subsequent campaigns have been bedeviled by other questionable contributions similar in kind if not in degree to the various White House Asia-gate scandals.

Remember that Hillary Clinton actually was cited by independent counsel Robert Ray for making false statements at a 1995 deposition. They are part and parcel of a voluminous record of lies that she has been caught making through the years on matters big and small, for reasons apparently ranging from the most nefarious to the most petty.

www.spectator.org

Making an exception to my previous post, Tony stoops to publishing Scaithe Arkansas Project VRWC R. Emmitt Tyrell's Butt-buddy Hillyer's fringe right-wing trash from the American Spectator of all places.

How low can you go?

If I had to get into bed with that kind of trash, I'd rather not sleep.

Funny, I can't seem to find a single error in the words posted above. Was Hillary sited for making false statements by Independent Council Robert Ray in 1995? Of course she was.

Are there "multitudinous examples of skullduggery involving unseemly access for and unseemly and/or illegal campaign contributions from a veritable cornucopia of shadowy Asian businessmen"?

The Times examined the cases of more than 150 donors who provided checks to Clinton after fundraising events geared to the Chinese community. One-third of those donors could not be found using property, telephone or business records. Most have not registered to vote, according to public records.

I guess the facts show this to be true as well and this is on top of felon Norman Hsu and his illegal bundling. So I guess that openly discussing and disecting the things which Hillary has brought upon herself relegates one to membership in the VRWC? Hardly. Its illuminates both her supporter's and staff's seeming indifference to the truth surrounding all the scandals ending right at her feet.

Point to one erroneous fact or misleading statement as it regards these things. Don't bother, you can't. If the truth doesn't fit your script then slam the messenger, which of course is the most vile, condesending, and bankrupt thing anyone can do without ever addressing the substance of the issue. Its not leadership, its arrogance and hubris dressed up to look like a virtue. Doing the wrong thing never is a virtue except for those so accustomed to doing so over and over again, while blaming others every single step of the way for their own lack of both ethics and institutional control.

From today's Politico.com we find:

1) IF YOU READ NOTHING ELSE TODAY: Los Angeles Time front page, "An unlikely treasure-trove of donors for Clinton: The candidate's unparalleled fundraising success relies largely on the least-affluent residents of New York's Chinatown -- some of whom can't be tracked down," by Peter Nicholas and Tom Hamburger.

QUICK FACT FOR TALKING HEADS: "[M]ost of the Chinese reported as contributing to Clinton's campaign have never voted. Many speak little or no English. Some seem to lead such ephemeral lives that neighbors say they've never heard of them."

dyn.politico.com

Geeze, its great being ahead of the curve....

And the hits just keep on coming!

A Clinton fund-raising event earlier this year illustrates how campaign deadlines, and bundlers' desire to win favor, can mix. William Danielczyk, a Clinton fund-raiser who runs a northern Virginia private-equity fund, says he wanted to plan an event for Mrs. Clinton in April. "We were encouraged to do it in March," he says, so the funds would be reported under the campaign's first-quarter results.

Mrs. Clinton was then considered the front-runner in a race with Mr. Obama and former North Carolina Sen. John Edwards for the Democratic nomination. Political analysts were looking for her to demonstrate her strength by out-raising her rivals in the first quarter.

Mr. Danielczyk and Mrs. Clinton agreed to schedule a fund-raiser for late March at the Clintons' Washington home. Campaign-finance reports show that in the days around the event, Mr. Danielczyk's employees and family members contributed more than $100,000 to the Clinton campaign.

Nearly half of the money came from individuals who are Republican voters, according to election records. One of those, Pamela Layton, said that she and her husband, who is the director of information technology at Mr. Danielczyk's private equity firm, were reimbursed for the $4,600 apiece they donated to Mrs. Clinton. Mr. Danielczyk denied that he reimbursed anyone for donations. After the reimbursement was reported last month by the Journal, the Clinton campaign returned the Laytons' donations and said it would contact all of the Danielczyk contributors to confirm that they had donated their own money.

"Anyone else here seeing an unmistakable pattern?"

For a long, long time, I have wondere why so many people were so concerned about things like Bill's flings and his BJ's. Hell, we know now that FDR, Eisenhower, Kennedy and who knows how many others strayed. What DID concern me and received scant attention in the media was the fund-raising. What did he give the Chinese Red Army for campaign donations? We know he authorized the transfer of missile technology aginst advice. There were rumors that the Chinese have quietened their subs with propeller technology they shouldn't have also. I suspect Hillary has a lot of exoerience in fund-raising and the Chinese contacts are NOT something new.

"What did he give the Chinese Red Army for campaign donations?"

What? State-of-the-art semiconductor manufacturing facilities, for one. All the corporate types could see was billions of pagers sold. All the political types see is a source of money. We've been sold out by the lot of 'em.

Wis...

Weren't we told that the Clinton campaign was going to redouble their efforts at keeping things like this from happening after the Hsu exposure?

Why in the world would anyone identify Hillary Clinton as a person willing to bring change to our government when her record continues to show her trapped in the same dubious tactics of the past, particularly in regards to campaign fundraising?

Where is the "responsibility gene" and the "experience and wisdom"? If she truly were emblematic of these traits wouldn't it show up in how her campaign raises funds and deals with its bundlers?

In regards to the sub quieting technology, wasn't that linked to the Japanese company Toshiba back during the Reagan Administration?

I've boycotted all things Toshiba since then because of that.

-Where is the "responsibility gene" and the "experience and wisdom"?

Maybe Hillary, like Dick Cheney, is a cousin of Obama's, eh?

Talk about bad judgement with fundraisers......

www.drudge.com

"What? State-of-the-art semiconductor manufacturing facilities, for one."

Yes...and what else that isn't known?

"In regards to the sub quieting technology, wasn't that linked to the Japanese company Toshiba back during the Reagan Administration?"

I believe Toshiba sold milling equipment to Russia which allowed Russia to further quiet their boats. The Chinese deal took place some years later. I'd have to go back and research it all.

Corky...

Its fairly pathetic for you to post information almost a year old and buried as the only example of something you deem negative as it regards Obama. This story about Hillary, just like the Hsu story, is coming to light today and it will likely resonate until all the loose ends are tied up.

I do not feel any apologies are necessary when both a candidate and a campaign staff continues to find itself enmeshed in controversy due to the overt greedy way it raises campaign cash because it doesn't have the support of the people in the manner the Obama campaign does. Hillary does not inspire wide cross-sections of Americans to donate to her campaign in the way that Barack does.

Fat Cats Disproportionately Support Hillary, Everyday Folk Support Obama

The bulk of Hillary's primary money is from people who contributed over $2300. Only a small proportion of her money came from small donors (those giving less than $200). On the other hand, the largest category for Obama's campaign money is from small donors (those giving less than $200). That would be those of us who are $5, $10, and $25 people ... and I give my $10 with pride. :)

Obama Size of Donations:

Under $200: $34,512,100

$200-$2299: $19,481,410

Over $2300: $25,268,200

Clinton Size of Donations:

Under $200: $9,460,880

$200-$2299: $23,504,390

Over $2300: $46,676,500

There's nothing wrong with giving $2300 if you got it like that. However, when the "under $200 category is disproportionately low relative to other candidates, it does raise some eyebrows. I'll let you draw your own conclusions about who is really not going to be beholden to the lobbyists and special interests.

Hillary is the corporatist, establishment candidate and the numbers tell the story. If she weren't so worried about being upstaged by Obama perhaps she wouldn't find herself, yet again, returning contributions from people without the means of providing them in the first place.

I believe Toshiba sold milling equipment to Russia which allowed Russia to further quiet their boats. The Chinese deal took place some years later. I'd have to go back and research it all.

I believe that is exactly correct, Jest. Thanks for the information.

Oh, and since Tuesday, Obama has raised $1,920,241 and counting, online in his quest of eliminating Hillary's $2.1 million advantage.

This is even blowing my mind! Still another contemporary story linking Hillary with another infamous financier:

Hillary's Mystery Money Men
by Russ Baker & Adam Federman

Her campaign dismissed Norman Hsu as someone who'd slipped through the cracks of an otherwise unimpeachable system for vetting donors, and perhaps he was. The same cannot be said for the notorious financier Alan Quasha, whose involvement with Clinton is at least as substantial--and still under wraps.

Political junkies will recall Quasha as the controversial figure who bailed out George W. Bush's failing oil company in 1986, folding Bush into his company, Harken Energy, thus setting him on the path to a lucrative and high-profile position as an owner of the Texas Rangers baseball team, and the presidency. The persistently unprofitable Harken--many of whose board members, connected to powerful foreign interests and the intelligence community, nevertheless profited enormously--faced intense scrutiny in the early 1990s and again during Bush's first term.

Now Quasha is back--on the other side of the aisle. Operating below the radar, he entered Hillary Clinton's circle even before she declared her candidacy by quietly arranging for the hire of Clinton confidant and longtime Democratic Party money man Terry McAuliffe at one of his companies. During the interregnum between McAuliffe's chairmanship of the Democratic Party and the time he officially joined Clinton's campaign, Quasha's firm set McAuliffe up with a salary and opened a Washington office for him.

Throughout their political careers, Bill and Hillary Clinton have repeatedly associated with people whose objectives seemed a million miles from "a place called Hope." Among these Alan Quasha and his menagerie--including Saudi frontmen, a foreign dictator, figures with intelligence ties and a maze of companies and offshore funds--stand out.

"That Hillary Clinton's campaign is involved with this particular cast of characters should give people pause," says John Moscow, a former Manhattan prosecutor. In the late 1980s and early '90s he led the investigation of the corrupt Bank of Credit and Commerce International (BCCI) global financial empire--a bank whose prominent shareholders included members of the Harken board. "Too many of the same names from earlier troubling circumstances suggests a lack of control over who she is dealing with," says Moscow, "or a policy of dealing with anyone who can pay."

NABNYC
At what point in time does a campaign become indictable because of persistent patterns of violating campaign contribution laws, possibly money laundering, possibly violation of the bribery and illegal gratuities statutes?

And second, if a candidate shows during the campaign a willingness to violate the law, step over anyone who would compete for the same position, and ignore the will of the people while fawning to the corporate elite, then why would anyone vote for that candidate?

Even if the argument is made that we "must" vote for Hillary because the Republicans will put in another fascist, and Hillary as a Republican is better than a fascist, I suggest the following:

DON'T VOTE FOR HILLARY IN THE PRIMARIES.

At a minimum, let's show the Corporate-controlled Democratic Party that they are at risk of losing many voters if they put Hillary up as the nominee. Not because she's a woman, but because she's a Republican. And a Bush Republican at that.

Two since.

should we keep counting on that last post on this thread?

This scandal means nothing. I really think Hillary is a lot like Bush. It's yes or no. There's no middle road for people on these two. Either you support or you don't.

"Democrats in the House hemorrhaged in the 1990s. We are now hanging on by a thread. If someone like Hillary Clinton is at the top of the ticket you can write Missouri off."

-from Missouri Minority Whip Connie Johnson

"Someone like Hillary Clinton would be a lightening rod in Missouri. John spends his time in many of Iowa's rural counties. Hillary is on K Street visiting with Monsanto and that's her rural policy. Right now, Republicans have their heads way low, and its really easy to get my foot on their necks. But Hillary would give them cause to rise again." [Shades of yesterday's hog-themed attack! -- amc]

-Missouri State Senator Wes Shoemyer

time-blog.com

It's difficult to see Hillary Clinton voluntarily handing back all of those extra-constitutional executive powers claimed by President Bush. Her husband's administration, for example, copiously invoked dubious "executive privilege" claims to keep from complying with congressional subpoenas and open records requests--claims the left now (correctly, in my view) regularly criticizes the Bush administration for invoking.

Hillary Clinton herself went to court to keep meetings of her Health Care Task Force secret from the public, something conservatives were quick to point out when leftists criticize Vice President Cheney's similar efforts to keep meetings of his Energy Task Force secret.

"I'm a strong believer in executive authority," Clinton said in a 2003 speech, recently quoted in The New Republic. "I wish that, when my husband was president, people in Congress had been more willing to recognize presidential authority."

That jibes with a February 2007 New York Times article on Clinton explaining her refusal to back down from her vote for the Iraq war: "Mrs. Clinton's belief in executive power and authority is another factor weighing against an apology, advisers said... she believes that a president usually deserves the benefit of the doubt from Congress on matters of executive authority."

Such is why President Bush has recently had some nice things to say about Hillary Clinton, leading some to speculate that Bush sees her as the Eisenhower to his Truman--a candidate from the opposing party who criticizes his foreign policy during the campaign, but will likely pursue a very similar policy should she be elected.
