"Breaking news as [Matt] Drudge reports that the controversial radio host, Don Imus, has agreed to settle his contract with CBS for $20 million. Also noted by Drudge were "a non disparaging clause, legal sources claim." Speculation now that the move might open the possibility that Imus will return to the airwaves, according to Drudge possibly on WABC in New York."

Also noted... were "a non disparaging clause, legal sources claim."

Any lawyers on here?

Exactly what does a "non-disparing clause" mean legally in this case? That the written settlement makes no mention of why Imus was fired? Or does the written settlement actually states the remarks made by Imus were not disparaging in nature? Or what?

So what does the good Reverend Al Sharpton think now. Imus got out of his old contract, probably will negotiate a much sweeter deal in any new contract, and the I-Man is soon to be back in business on the airways.

The very short article I posted for this userblog was hot off the press and news was still coming out. Here is a lengthier article:

NEW YORK (Reuters) - U.S. broadcaster CBS has settled its termination dispute with fired radio shock jock Don Imus, the company said on Tuesday, a possible step toward Imus going to work for a rival broadcaster.

Imus was fired in April after referring to a mostly black university women's basketball team with a racial slur, generating a storm of controversy that led CBS Radio to cancel his popular "Imus in the Morning" show.

The Imus show was produced and broadcast by CBS-owned WFAN radio station in New York and syndicated on some 60 other stations across the United States. The show was also simulcast on cable television's MSNBC.

CBS and MSNBC first decided to suspend Imus's show for two weeks after he said the Rutgers University women's basketball team looked like "nappy-headed hos."

"Nappy" is an antiquated term referring to coarse, curly hair and "ho" is slang for whore.

As calls to fire Imus grew, notably from New York civil rights leader Al Sharpton, MSNBC canceled the Imus show and CBS did so the next day.

"Don Imus and CBS Radio have mutually agreed to settle claims that each had against the other regarding the Imus radio program on CBS. The terms of the settlement are confidential and will not be disclosed," CBS said in a statement.

WFAN announced on Tuesday that former NFL quarterback and CBS sports broadcaster Boomer Esiason, and Craig Carton, an afternoon FM talk radio host, would host a show that takes over Imus's former weekday morning time slot from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m.

Imus had threatened to sue CBS for breach of contract and hired famed lawyer Martin Garbus, who once represented politically incorrect comedian Lenny Bruce in the 1960s.

It was not confirmed if the lawsuit was ever filed, and CBS referred further questions to Garbus, who would only confirm that a settlement had been reached.

Difficult to know who to despise more. Imus for being a snide, loud-mouthed bigot or CBS for encouraging him to be one. Corporate CBS wins because it throws hypocrisy into the mix.

"Mission Statement
CBS is committed to building and nurturing a diversified environment throughout the entire company, as well as the entertainment industry at large.

Recognizing the power and influence the company carries through its nationwide reach of network programming and local television stations, CBS has been on the forefront of making diversity a reality through a wide array of workshops, talent showcases and internships designed to bring more minorities into the creative process, and to create opportunities where they may not have existed before.

Likewise, internally, CBS continues in its efforts to create a workplace that is representative of the American public, and which offers the same hopes, dreams and opportunities to all.

In realizing this important goal, CBS has partnered with many organizations throughout the industry for talent showcases, networking events and outreach efforts."

Why is there another same Imus story by me (that I didn't put up) now on the front page?

The woman who is captain of the Rudgers Women's Basketball team just filed a lawsuit against Imus today saying that he "hurt her reputation."
