If you really want to make an argument about civil rights and small minorities of groups creating societal change... What was the Black Rights movement? What was the colonization of America? What was the Protestant Reformation? Almost all social change is created or catalyzed by a minority.

I think it's a silly argument to say that any social group should not have equal rights because only a small group of that people openly campaign for equal rights.

I ahve experience with this one. When our friend Sean was diagnosed with HIV he was already suffering from full blown AIDS. His family was in another State and "christian" and wanted NOTHING to do with him.
He appointed us as his power of atty, we arranged for hopsice and medical care, coordinated with his Dr's and hospice workers and even got his dog from teh people who were taking care of it back to his house at 2 AM when the Hospice nurses called us and said "this is it", one of Seans last wishes was for his dog to be there when he passed, and he was.
We had Sean cremated per his wishes and scattered his ashes near the Golden Gate Bridge just like he wanted. We then cleaned put his apt, gave all the canned food to a food bank for Aids patients and gave all his left over medicine to a Aids charity that gave the meds to patients who couldn't afford them.

Keep in mind, we barley knew this guy for 2 yrs, his family knew him his whole life. While he was dying, we never heard from them. Nor did we hear anything after he died.

My late husband had the same problem with his family. He died of throat cancer 7 months after we were married. I think his father visited him 2 times, his mother once, and he was her only natural child. She was closer to her step-children. My son quit his job to stay home and take care of my husband as I made more money than my son did. He died at home surrounded by his new family. I paid for his cremation and did as he asked for his remains be given to his father who lived in mexico to be put in the ocean. I haven't heard from them in years. All they ever wanted was the money that he had put aside for his son. Such a shame that parental unconditional love is conditional.

As for the book, I think those parents need to realize that 2 male penguins raising a chick is not going make their child homosexual. You can't turn someone that way. Too bad more people don't realize that.

When I was 8, I couldn't wait to get out of school so that I could partake in the daily ritual of "dry hump the neighbor girl" which was quite enjoyable.
