Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Saturday, April 15, 2017

A day after setting off one firestorm, a Cabarrus County lawmaker set off another Wednesday by calling Abraham Lincoln "the same sort (of) tyrant" as Adolf Hitler. Republican Rep. Larry Pittman of Cabarrus County made the comparison in a Facebook post in response to a comment criticizing a bill he'd introduced that would nullify the U.S. Supreme Court's decision on same-sex marriage in North Carolina. In his post, Pittman said North Carolina should uphold traditional marriage "in spite of the opinion of a federal court." "And if Hitler had won, should the world just get over it?" he wrote. "Lincoln was the same sort if (sic) tyrant, and personally responsible for the deaths of over 800,000 Americans in a war that was unnecessary and unconstitutional."

deaths of over 800,000 Americans

Only one side of the war was fought by Americans, and it wasn't his.

He probably does. And you can bet we'll hear nothing but crickets from the rest of the Rs.

"With malice towards none, with charity for all..."

Obviously Hitlerian.

One more yap from the GOP's menagerie of weirdness.

So, when he visits the Lincoln Memorial, does he piss in a corner?

So when they say "We are the party of Lincoln!" what are they really saying??

Silence do good is right.

Why would a person who believes this be part of the GOP unless they also like hitler?

I'd love tohear his opinion on John Wilkes Booth, and I would hope someone would punch him in the face.

Indefensible

Reprehensible

Wrong side of both history and fact

Republican

Trump supporter

Two options: condemn or defend.

Deflections to other issues or individuals count as defense.

OK, so after the Cuban Revolution the Cubans demanded we vacate Guantanamo Bay. We refused and said we had a lease. The Cubans knew not to attack Guantanamo Bay because it would have been an act of war.

I think everybody agrees with that.

Now. After the South succeeded from the United States they demanded that we vacate Fort Sumter. The South attacked Fort Sumter knowing that it was an act of war.

If you attack the United States of America's military, there will be consequences. And there was.

Any questions.

There seems to be a little confusion about the party that Lincoln helped establish. Lincoln was a Republican. The Confederates were all Democrats, every one. The Democrat party was established to protect the institution of slavery. Less than 3% of the south owned slaves, but they held the political power and poor yeomen farmers are the ones that paid for that war, in blood. How much did they pay? An example, in 1860 the richest state in the union was Mississippi. In 1870 the poorest state in the Union was Mississippi, and has remained such ever sense.

The republican logic fallacy:

lincoln was a republican in 1860 therefore modern democrats are racist

The truth: Lincoln was a LIBERAL in 1860 and was a member of the progressive at the time republican party. Not one modern republican would have voted for any of Lincolns policies.

Just as a snowball in January does not disprove global warming, a liberal republican in 1860 does not disprove republicans becoming ever more racist.

It says a lot about your party if you have to go back 157 years to find a politician who was demonstrably not racist.

Civil War obsessed Southerners should revere Lincoln and the Second Coming. He saved the Southern soul by forcing them to end their evil ways and ultimately died for their sins.
