Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Saturday, April 15, 2017

The former head of MI6 has said Donald Trump borrowed money from Russia for his business during the 2008 financial crisis. Richard Dearlove told Prospect Magazine that "what lingers for Trump may be what deals -- on what terms -- he did after the financial crisis of 2008 to borrow Russian money" when other banks and lenders would not risk the money, given Trump's history of bankruptcy. Dearlove alleged the money was used by Trump to prop up his real estate empire, which was hit hard by the financial crisis.

Robert Amsterdam, a lawyer at international law firm Amsterdam & Partners with considerable experience in Russian affairs, told The Independent there was "no question" that U.S. intelligence agencies and the FBI had information about Trump's financial dealings with Russian entities prior to the 2016 U.S. election.

"Trump's relationship with Russia goes back many, many years. I'm sure the FBI was monitoring it," he said.

Democrat Senator Mark Warner, Vice Chair of the Senate Intelligence Committee said the tactics used by the Kremlin "send a chill down anyone who believes in the democratic process".

"One of Mr. Trump's main lenders is a bank that's been particularly close with Russians: Deutsche Bank," said Amsterdam.

It is unknown if Trump is still paying off the alleged 2008 debts to Russian lenders or which part of the vast Trump organization took out the loans.

Attempting to warm relations with Russia during the campaign may be one of a few redeeming policies the lying ignoramus put on the table. We need war with Russia like we need another financial crisis.

But none of Trump's campaign promises matter now. Most have nothing to do with Rethug policy to begin with, which is why he seemed more attractive than the other Rethug candidates. Tough luck suckers, Pence, Ryan and McConnell are on the march.

We all knew it was at least something like this. At least.

This is truly a non-story, lots of businesses borrowed money from Russian Banks during the downturn. If we want to establish strong links with the Russians who were trying to influence the election, I think we need to focus more on the communications from Trump's advisors and campaign as opposed to running down this rabbit hole.

Business people getting in bed with the Russians isn't a big deal.
A POTUS that is beholden to the Russians is a very big deal.

Trump may have paid off his Russian debts so that the Kremlin has no hold over him. It might just be out of convenience that Trump stacked his campaign with Russian operatives hoping to gain leverage. Trump is famous for using people and dumping them when he gets what he wants, maybe he will do that to the Russians.

But, I think any US patriot would want a full investigation to find out what Russia has over Trump before the Kremlin calls in favors.

I don't have a problem with people (even Presidential nominees) doing business with the Russians. It may require some public scrutiny to make sure it is above board, but if it IS above board there is no problem.
I DO have a problem when people (ESPECIALLY elected officials) LIE about doing business with the Russians.

Which is what the Trump supporters are endorsing. By defending Trump on this, you are defending him LYING about it.

But apparently Republicans are perfectly fine with their representatives lying to them. Look at all the lies they swallowed over repealing Obamacare. And, like submissive little abused wives they seem to always defend their abusers.

This was my hunch from the get go.

Trump is compromised because he owes Russia money.

Which Russia can leverage against him.

Let's hope little d steals enough money from the US, and quickly, so he doesn't need Russian money anymore.
Theif or traitor, you choose.
Or as little d would say, why not both.

Have we really gone full circle so the Liberal talking point is that Trump is broke and he is beholden to Russians financially? You forget the Maddow tax fiasco already?

Trump is compromised because he owes Russia money.

Doubtful, any money that he owes any bank is secured by Real Estate, if Trump Inc. gets underwater on any loan (my guess is all his properties are single purpose entities) he will just BK that entity and let the bank pick up the scraps.

Pretty standard operating procedure for any RE developer, POTUS or not.

From the article:
It is not illegal to borrow money from Russian entities but Mr Dearlove, who left government in 2004, did not provide any evidence to support his claim in the interview.
Yawn

He's not in debt to Russian banks, he's in debt to Russian Oligarchs, there's a huge difference. Many of the Russian Oligharchs are just rich mobsters, and they are all beholden to Putin, who can jail them and seize their business holdings on a whim. You don't declare bankruptcy on a Russian Oligarch or on Vladimir Putin, not if you don't want Pellonium in your beautiful chocolate cake.

Don't forget, Drumpf doesn't really build anything anymore, he makes his money by licensing his name. This also makes it harder to declare bankruptcy. Finally, Jared is also in bed with Russian "investors." We all know that the only family member Drumpf cares about is Ivanka, so it's possible the threat isn't against him, but against her, which is why he was so quick to move her into the WH.

And of course, don't forget the pee pee tape. Everything else from the Steele dossier has been correct, the pee pee tape doesn't seem so far fetched.
