Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Monday, March 20, 2017

President Donald Trump's approval rating has hit a new low, according to the latest Gallup poll. As of Sunday at 1 p.m. ET, Trump's approval rating has sunk to 37 percent, while those who disapprove of the president's job stands at 58 percent. His approval rating stood at 45 percent one week prior. The latest numbers came as U.S. House Republicans work on changes to the health-care bill that would repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act, better known as Obamacare. Trump has been wooing lawmakers to vote for the bill, according to Reuters. He won the backing of a dozen conservative lawmakers on Friday after an Oval Office meeting in which the president endorsed a work requirement and block-grant option for Medicaid. Trump has also been criticized for his handling of allegations of Russia ties and rhetoric surrounding global warming.

Trump is our worst President ever, with even Bill Maher preferring Shrub. But, still more popular than the Democratic Party (30% positive, 46% negative), Nancy Pelosi (19% positive, 44% negative), or Chuck Schumer (17% positive, 26% negative). McConnell is extremely unpopular, but not Pence, who is more popular than Trump.

Compare this to Bernie Sanders, America's most popular politician (~54% positive, but not the same poll) except within the Democratic Party Leadership which still cannot face why they are out of favor locally and nationally. The Clintons never did one thing for Labor Unions, instead laughing, what are they gonna do support the Republicans instead? Well yeah, that's exactly what happened. The Wussies are floundering instead of evaluating and responding to the people. That's what Trump did, except he has been lying his head off his entire life and desperate people were not aware of this larger truth.

It is looking as if Pres trump's support is approaching the level of his core supporters only. He appears to be losing a lot of the crossover Democrats that were essential for his carrying of some states last November, not surprising since he has all but turned his back to them.

So the question becomes --- how long before the 2020 election will Pres Trump start to moderate in order to pull some non-core supporters back into his column?

@#22 ... Already sweating the next election? ...

Not at all.

Just commenting on Pres Trump's behavior now, and how it may morph as he needs to get re-elected.

Just as his behavior has been changing from candidate Trump to Pres Trump. For example, candidate Trump would not say at one of his rallies that he was 100% behind a bill that stabs his Democratic supporters in the back, as Pres Trump said just last week.

You'll need to ask the DNC about their candidate. I was a Republican, now an unaffiliated voter, so I really don't know the inner workings of the DNC.

This is a weak attempt to rationalize an approval rating lower than any Obama experienced in his presidency.

Your guy is a couple months into the job and he's breaking records for low approval. During his honeymoon period!

If you can't admit how bad that is, you're not being honest with yourself. Trump has been a disaster thus far. He's more focused on Apprentice ratings, weekend golf trips and yelling at the talking people on his television than getting anything done.

In some respects that's true --- to an extent.

If no one (including you) approved of what he was doing, would you still think that is OK because he is getting stuff done?

At what point does having a significant majority of the country not liking what a president is doing to the country become significant?

You're wrong about that.

A president who pisses people off and loses friends won't be able to get things done. He'll be politically toxic to the members of Congress he needs to pass his agenda.

There's a tipping point for Trump's approval that will put him at serious risk of removal from office. Mike Pence is right there waiting to carry out the GOP agenda with a happy face and avoid getting mired in constant stupid controversies. Trump hitting 37% means he's losing support from his own voters.

To attempt it before the 2018 elections would be too soon. Not enough of a case will be built up by then.

To attempt it after the 2018 elections may be cut off at the pass, as Democrats may have gotten more seats in Congress, and they'd rather see a weak, fumbling Pres Trump than a Republican-unifying VP Pence in the Oval Office.

...In January, Donald Trump skipped a Republican debate in order to host a fundraiser for veterans. He boasted at the time that he'd raised $6 million for vets – which led to a related boast that Trump contributed $1 million out of his own pocket.

The Washington Post reported this week that Trump's claims simply weren't true. He did not, for example, raise $6 million. And what about the $1 million check the Republican bragged about? His campaign manager insisted this week that Trump did make the contribution.

As syco points out, the voting public is sick and tired of the song and dance, theater intended to distract really, that our duopoly engages in. The duopolies are (astonishingly) MORE unpopular than Trump. Congress is holding steady around 9-10%, yet oddly these jerks continue to get re-elected. The Democrat leadership and loyalists here are in severe denial of this simple fact and show no sign of recognizing, let alone addressing, the public's concerns. Instead they babel on about Russia, with significant support from the only organization which lies more than Trump, the CIA.

This is why Trump pulled of a most unlikely victory. It should be apparent to the most casual observer that Trump has no intention of fulfilling his campaign promises. But it would be premature to think the Wussies are poised crush the Rethugs in 2018. They are profoundly unpopular and likely to remain so unless they embrace Bernie Sanders and his ideas, which enjoy a positive rating of between 54-61%, depending on which poll you read. Only McConnell is more unpopular than the Wussies. Junk economics remains mainstream, another factor which props up otherwise arrogant, ignorant Rethugs.

Corkster:
when you take away after-school programs for children and Meals on Wheels for the poor people, that's not what you call ‘making America great again.'

At the end of say, 6 months, if school lunches are gone and Meals on Wheels are gone, I will give you $250.
If they are NOT gone, you give me $250.
Deal??

Make it $2500.

I want you to be serious.

Saying "don't worry about Trump/Republican policy idiocy because it'll never happen" isn't serious.

I am serious. SS constraints keep things sensible. $250 is moar than i spend on snuff for a year.
