Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

The Disney World employees who play Goofy, Mickey and other iconic characters don't just have to spend long hours in their costumes under the Florida sun. According to the U.S. Department of Labor, they were on the hook for those costumes. An investigation by the deparment's Wages and Hours Division has found that "Disney resorts in Florida deducted a uniform or 'costume' expense that caused some employees' hourly rates to fall below the federal minimum wage." ... That's what happened at Disney World, along with failure to keep required payroll records and requiring employees to perform uncompensated pre- and post-shift duties. Disney has agreed to pay 16,339 of its "cast members" a total of $3.8 million in back wages.

Since Disney almost pocketed millions extra it was worth the risk.

Good thing we will be getting rid of all those pesky regulations and defunding agencies that might prevent this in the future.

Welcome to the brave new world we're entering.

Except in future cases the employees won't be paid back wages that they're owed.

Speaking of getting rid of regulations that stifle innovation and entrepreneurs. How about we get rid of copyright after 20 years.
Unless regulations that benefit the rich are good and regulations that benefit the weak are bad.

So, they keep raising the Disney World rates to the point of insanity, but require minimum wage employees who interact with kids to cover costume expenses?

It's OK.
They have a gay character in a movie.

That absolves them of all evil.
SJWs will understand.

I could never get Disneyland. When my kids were of an age that Disneyland might have been fun, we were looking at about $3K for a week in the "Magic Kingdom." That would have been a month's wages for me. I had been priced out of that scam over thirty years ago!

I agree John, same for me.

We had much more fun camping for a week fishing, hiking and enjoying the great out doors. Nothing like sitting around the fire at night and having a marshmellow roast food fight.....LOL! Some great memories.
