Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

The principal problem for Democrats is that so many media figures and online charlatans are personally benefiting from feeding the base increasingly unhinged, fact-free conspiracies -- just as right-wing media polemicists did after both Bill Clinton and Obama were elected -- that there are now millions of partisan soldiers absolutely convinced of a Trump/Russia conspiracy for which, at least as of now, there is no evidence. And they are all waiting for the day, which they regard as inevitable and imminent, when this theory will be proven and Trump will be removed.

Key Democratic officials are clearly worried about the expectations that have been purposely stoked and are now trying to tamp them down. Many of them have tried to signal that the beliefs the base has been led to adopt have no basis in reason or evidence.

Donald's dirty. It's just a matter of finding out how and how bad.

You defend the man much too often to have supported Bernie.

Perhaps most revealing of all are the Democrats on the Senate Intelligence Committee -- charged with investigating these matters -- who recently told BuzzFeed how petrified they are of what the Democratic base will do if they do not find evidence of collusion, as they now suspect will likely be the case. "There's a tangible frustration over what one official called ‘wildly inflated' expectations surrounding the panel's fledgling investigation," BuzzFeed's Ali Watkins wrote.

Translation: Liars lied, deranged idiots believed the liars, and now it turns out that it was all BS. Many of you here should feel even stupider than usual.

Who gives a ---- what partisan hacks think post investigation? If the legitimate investigation finds nothing, those of us who are content with having an investigation in the first place will accept the findings, just as we did with the Benghazzi investigations. Those of us level-headed enough to do so will ignore the screeching Left's redefinition of Truther, just as we did with the raving lunatics on the Right with their HRC witch hunt.

Key Dem. Officials: No Evidence of Trump/Russia Collusion

There was plenty of smoke COOK, which justified an investigation. Even a boot licker like you can admit to that much.

FTA:

"But given the way these Russia conspiracies have drowned out other critical issues being virtually ignored under the Trump presidency, it's vital that everything be done now to make clear what is based in evidence and what is based in partisan delusions. And most of what the Democratic base has been fed for the last six months by their unhinged stable of media, online, and party leaders has decisively fallen into the latter category, as even their own officials are now desperately trying to warn."

The amount of smoke warranted investigating. Had there been evidence, the DNC would have needed the trumped up furor of the voting public to insist Congress move on the evidence. So, IOW, I can view this as a calculated risk by the DNC that had there been evidence, they would have needed not just Democratic Party support through and through, that would also need to translate into Trumpsters' support as well to influence Congress to take action. Without all this craziness, I doubt Congress would have bothered with any of it had there been evidence.

With that said, the calculated risk in reality wasn't all that risky after all, as Greenwald would like us to believe. The DNC is packed full of partisan hacks that will vote against Republicans no matter what. So there is in actuality ZERO fear within DNC circles of their base going against them for pushing a Russia/Trump link.

I hope they find evidence, but find it was just people being extremely careless, but make it clear that anyone else who does the same will face prosecution....

"an investigation" is not the same as "benghazi investigations," not in intent, not in fervor, and not in scope.

I agree that left to his own devices, Trump will hang himself.

So let's say he's guilty of something (or will be) but that something isn't colluding with Russia.

Do you think the constant carrying on over false claims about Russia will make subsequent claims against him seem more or less credible?

I know what the rational answer is. Your behavior strongly hints that you do not.

What the Democrats are doing is the equivalent of going all on a raised pot in the first hand of a poker tournament with a pair of threes.

The good news, Zed, is that while the Russian investigation is winding down, the hunt for Nazi's is just heating up.

NOW Kookfish loves him some Glenn Greenwald! Who takes a couple of comments and makes them a fact.

As it appears rwingers love them some conspiracy theories just like their Dear Leader, The Russian Connection is something they can understand without having to be bothered with things like how they are losing their health care and any semblance of a social safety network.

Anyone who thinks Glenn Greenwald is a reliable source of information on this is gullible as hell.

Greenwald keeps claiming there's "no evidence" of Trump/Russia collusion, but we've been presented with evidence gathered by the media for months. Just this week Trump dirty trickster Roger Stone admitted he contacted Russian hacker Guccifer 16 times.

A fair reporter would acknowledge there has been some evidence of collusion, even if not judging that evidence to be conclusive.

But Greenwald's a hack. He twists the facts to serve his agenda and always has. My personal dealings with him after I reported on the spending by his Accountability Now PAC demonstrated his lack of character.

You have no point. You are pointless. Your points are nulli and void. I've been pointing and laughing at Greenwald for years, and as far as I know have never posted one of his articles.... not in support, anyway.

I actually have for decades appreciated lefty provocateurs like Chomsky and Hedges, even when they are not being pragmatic about real world politics... although Chomsky is realistic about voting for the lesser evil... but I've never been a fan of Greenwald, who is most unrealistic whiner.

Yesterday the Nunes an Schiff, met with Comey. Afterwards they spoke briefly with reporters (italics mine):

Additionally, Schiff took the unusual step of openly disagreeing with Nunes to assert it was not possible to say there were no contacts between the Trump campaign and Russia.

Reporter: "Do you have any evidence that there were contacts between the Trump campaign and Russians?"

Nunes: "I don't have any evidence of that, and we're not going to get into, I mean, this gets to the whole issue of incidental collection, you know, who else was talking to the Russian Ambassador. This is a slippery slope. I think you just need to let the appropriate agencies get us the information in a timely manner, which I agree with the Ranking Member on, the more that they stall, the more they make it more complicated for us, the slower the investigation goes and the more complicated it makes it for us to answer your questions."

Schiff: "I do want to say on that question because, Director Clapper [sic] was asked a similar question, I cannot answer that question the same way. Not certainly with the same categorical nature of the response. So, I don't share that summary conclusion, and that's about all I can say on that subject."

(Some won't like this source; if you are one of them, skip the commentary and just watch the video of Nunes and Schiff speaking with reporters).

I think it is still too soon to tell if there was any collusion between members of Trump's team and the Russians. If there was, I doubt Trump himself will ever be implicated in a way that can be proven (plausible deniability) and therefore impeached.

You owe him no apology. He's a Greenwald sychophant. Or, he pretends to be one quite convincingly. Never apologize for being an informed, reasonable, honest person.
