Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Friday, February 17, 2017

Former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn denied to FBI agents in an interview last month that he had discussed U.S. sanctions against Russia with that country's ambassador to the United States before President Trump took office, contradicting the contents of intercepted communications collected by intelligence agencies, current and former U.S. officials said. The Jan. 24 interview potentially puts Flynn in legal jeopardy, as lying to the FBI is a felony, but any decision to prosecute would ultimately lie with the Justice Department. Some officials said bringing a case could prove difficult in part because Flynn may attempt to parse the definition of sanctions. In a recent interview with the Daily Caller, Flynn said he didn't discuss "sanctions" but did discuss the Obama administration's expulsion of 35 Russian diplomats, which were part of the sanctions package it announced on Dec. 29.

Senior Justice and intelligence officials who have reviewed the phone call thought Flynn's statements to Kislyak were inappropriate, if not illegal, because he suggested that the Kremlin could expect a reprieve from the sanctions. At the same time, officials knew that seeking to build a case against Flynn for violating an obscure 1799 statute known as the Logan Act -- which bars private citizens from interfering in diplomatic disputes -- would be legally and political daunting.

I can already hear the same voices that were spitting venom when Bill Clinton parsed "Depends on what the meaning of is is" lining up to defend Flynn's already stated assertion that he didn't actually discuss "sanctions" when he talked about the 35 Russian diplomats being booted from the US because Obama ordered them to be expelled through the actual sanction decree.

Just another rabbit hole to be explored....

Cue Elmer Fudd.

(T)he most incredible and little-noted aspect of the affair is this: One might have assumed the late-December call between Flynn and Ambassador Kislyak took place while the former was in the president-elect's transition office, or some similar Washington venue. But according to the Washington Post, the call took place not while Flynn was in D.C., but while on vacation at a beach-side resort in the Dominican Republic! Discussing sanctions with a foreign government while sipping a piña colada is reminiscent of Trump's own crisis meeting at a Mar-a-Lago public dining room, with guests snapping selfies with the nuclear football.

But the crucial point is this: the Russian embassy is sovereign Russian territory. Flynn was outside the United States. The fact that the call both emanated from and terminated on foreign soil made Flynn, then a private citizen, perfectly fair game. washingtonmonthly.com

Someday the movies made about these times are going to be disbelieved as incredible.

Funny, during his mental patient rant yesterday, Dear Leader said, "I fired him..." So are you admitting that Dear Leader is in fact, as we have been saying for monthS, a liar? Because either he lied yesterday, or you are a liar, or more likely both!

"If I did half the things that she has done, I'd be in prison right now." Flynn's words at the RNC. So, LOCK HIM UP, LOCK HIM UP.

It's too bad Sessions is in charge of Justice, because the FBI could trade the jail time for the skinny on Drumpf, Pence and the rest of the liars. Oh, and even if Flynn lied to Pence about talking to the Russians about sanctions, he had access to the NSA readouts of the phone calls before he went on the Sunday circuit and lied his ass off. So, Jason Chapdouche, where are the investigations? HE KNOWINGLY LIED TO THE AMERICAN PEOPLE!

You see, Treason doesn't matter if you are a Republican. Reagan proved that.

Flynn is gone, does it really matter whether he was fired or he resigned? You just said Trump had a mental patient rant yesterday. Can you prove that he was ever a mental patient? Which hospital and when? If not you are a liar. See how that works?

It kinda matters when Trump lies.
You and me, not so much.
You see how that works, right?

Dear Leader is clearly mentally ill, if you can't see that, you are willfully blind. That rant yesterday was a lie filled embarrassment to this country. If you got your head out of Cheetolini's adult diaper swaddled ass, you might see it.

You guys don't know what he said or didn't say. Nothing but speculation.

Release the transcripts. Not that it really matters if he did or didn't. Just whether or not he lied about it to Pence. Nothing wrong with telling the Russian ambassador that we're going to review the sanctions after we take office. If that's treason, then Obama and his people should have been charged 8 years ago when they did the same thing.
