Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Friday, February 17, 2017

Shepard Smith, the Fox News anchor, on Thursday afternoon seemed to have had enough of Donald Trump's slams at the media as peddlers of "fake news" -- or, when it comes to CNN, "very fake news." "It is crazy what we are watching every day, it is absolutely crazy," Smith said. "He keeps repeating ridiculous throwaway lines that are not true at all and sort of avoiding this issue of Russia as if we are some kind of fools for asking the question." Smith then started to look into the camera and added, "Really? Your opposition was hacked, and the Russians were responsible for it, and your people were on the phone on the same day it was happening, and we are fools for asking those questions? No sir, we are not fools for asking those questions, and we demand to know the answer to this question. You owe this to the American people."

CNN's Jake Tapper, in his own state of disbelief about the press conference, also looked into the camera on Thursday and said, "President Trump, if you are watching. You are the president. You legitimately won the presidency. Now get to work and stop whining about it."

Later, CBS News' Scott Pelley said on Thursday's newscast, "Today, we learned the length of the president's fuse: 28 days."

That was the most ridiculous press conference I've ever seen. it basically consisted of "the media is a bunch of liars."

An hour and 15 minutes of self-aggrandizing -------- and lies. A narcissistic rant of epic proportions.

One Republican congressman even texted that, "he should be having this conversation with his therapist,".

This was one of the most painful things to watch since the space shuttle disaster. Every other word out of his mouth was a lie or based on a lie.

When asked what was going to do about recent Russian North Korean acts of aggression against us (which is really just a chance for him to address the issue publicly) he said he doesn't have to tell us anything.

We have a Lying POS for a President. Sad.

I watched the entire press conference. F. Chuck Todd and the MSM is completely out of control and losing it mentally over Trump basically telling them that he does not need the 'press' to take his message to the American people. They can't fathom being completely obsolete but it has happened. His utter disdain for them was hilarious to witness. No president has ever faced a more hostile press corps and not president has ever done a better job of putting them back in their place and reminding them of the fact that they have no credibility left after 8 years of Obama and the most biased election coverage in history. When you abrogate your responsibilities as objective journalists and instead act as propaganda operatives in outright advocacy for the Democrat party, you've lost your right to be taken seriously.

Trump doesn't want an objective press. He wants a press biased in his favor, one that asks him "nice" questions and tells him what an amazing job he is doing as president. IOW, he wants a press that holds him in as high esteem as he holds himself.

Perhaps less surprisingly, those who are here are deflecting to democrats or the media.

Trump said he had the largest electoral win since Reagan. Trump said it was highest murder rate in 47 years. Trump said there were 3 to 5 million illegal voters. Trump said grab 'em by the ----- and Trump said Obama was a Kenyan.

Are you going to trust him when he says a country has WMDs (believe me) when he can't be trusted about the attendance at his own inauguration? Remember, that he had an inauguration means that he'd won...you'd think that would be enough.

He's a big boy. He said these things. It's not the media's fault and it's not the Democrats fault.

@#90 Who says it's NOT going as planned? Chaos and confusion IS a plan, when you're trying to dismantle gov't.

Chaos and confusion is the plan when you don't have a real plan. In other words, you can dismantle government without using chaos and confusion to do so.

So then the question becomes, why does Pres Trump need the chaos and confusion, i.e., look like the Keystone Kops, in order to accomplish his goals? The chaos and confusion merely causes him to lose focus as he has to deal with the ramifications of the chaos and confusion.

The result is that he has to spend time dealing with self-inflicted problems, instead of dealing with his plan to dismantle government.

ONe part of his rant did make sense to me though, he said "we are a divided nation and we have been divided before Obama." I believe we've been a divided nation since Civil Rights and Vietnam and then were redivided when Bush invaded Iraq. Trump is right about that but he will not be the President that unites us. He is creating deeper division by his use of "alternative facts." The opposition can't even take his or his supporters' arguments seriously and thus riducule results which creates more anger among his supporters because they find it insulting that we can't take them seriously. This will only continue to get worse.

@#108 Trump has stated repeatedly that he doesn't want people to know what he's going to do. and guess what? Nobody knows what he's going to do next.

Not even himself, it seems.

Candidate Trump and Pres Trump have stated many things repeatedly, however repetition does not veracity make.

For example, he has stated repeatedly that he has a secret plan to defeat ISIS and that he didn't need to consult with the generals in the Pentagon because he was so much smarter than they were. His "dismantle the system" supporters at the rallies cheered when he said that.

Well, guess what, he is now saying that the plan to defeat ISIS will be coming from the generals in the Pentagon.

A president's approval (or lack thereof) is integral to his success (or failure) in office.

I watched the press conference. I would not use the term unhinged, unless it is to be applied to Trump throughout his campaign.

What I saw was a man absolutely out of his depth. He does not remotely have what it takes to be President of the US. I get that some of you want a wall, or illegal immigrants deported, or jobs returned from overseas, but the totality of running a country is so much more than this.

Anyone who thinks that modern day America can be run by a bunch of people driven by wildly differing ideologies, with no or little experience of government, headed up by a man who was born with the proverbial silver spoon, who has lived nothing but a privileged life and who's main claim to fame recently is the catch phrase " you're fired", does not understand his/her own country.

For reasons I have never quite understood, my wife loves the film " The American President" and consequently I've watched several more times than I care to admit. Here are 2 quote from Michael Douglas' character:

"America isn't easy. America is advanced citizenship."

"We have serious problems to solve, and we need serious people to solve them. And whatever your particular problem is, I promise you Bob Rumson is not the least bit interested in solving it. He is interested in two things, and two things only: making you afraid of it, and telling you who's to blame for it. That, ladies and gentlemen, is how you win elections. You gather a group of middle age, middle class, middle income voters who remember with longing an easier time, and you talk to them about family, and American values and character, and you wave an old photo of the President's girlfriend and you scream about patriotism. You tell them she's to blame for their lot in life. And you go on television and you call her a whore."

I'm going to assume you can make the appropriate word substitutions in the second quote for what America currently faces. Life follows art apparently.

Trump may give you one or more of the things his existing supporters want, but in doing so he is, in my view, likely to trample on much of what made America America. He has demonstrated throughout his life that he does not live by the values that most Americans believe to be representative of their country. If the American people do not hold his feet to the fire, Trump's values will replace America's values, both within the country and globally and like Humpty Dumpty, there will be no putting that back together.

#148 | Posted by Avigdore

Really? You went there? You would be correct IF you said no candidate won the majority of voters. BUT the majority of voters did not pick tRump for President. The math is reeeeeaaaaaalllllll simple.

Final Numbers:
Clinton Trump Others Clinton % Trump % Others %
Total 65,844,610 62,979,636 7,804,213 48.20% 46.10% 5.70%

Trump = 62,979,636
Non-Trump = 73,648,823

Trump = 46.10%
Non-Trump = 53.9%

So we have a minority President. And arguably we have a congress dominated by Republicans who represent a minority of people. Sounds like Syria to me.

#151 | Posted by GalaxiePete at 2017-02-17 01:11 PM | Reply | Newsworthy 5

Obama's experience prior to becoming President:

Community organizer: 1985 - 1988
Harvard Law School: 1988 - 1991
Chicago Law School and civil rights lawyer: 1991 - 1997
Illinois State Senate: 1997 - 2004
US Senate: 2005 - 2008

I'm sorry, but these are facts; you don't get a pass on ignoring these.

Obamacare was a great President.

Rated #12 by CSPAN and 91 Presidential historians.

I already miss his cool demeanor, common sense and stability.

And you will come to miss him too soon enough. When you get over your ego and realize what you have done to this country by helping to elect him.

B. Hussein didn't need to be a great president. He just needed to be a little bit better than Baby Bush. That's all the change I was hoping for and that's exactly what I (and every other red-blooded American) received. Ended up B. Hussein was heads above shoulders better. Then I changed my voting perspective from such a broad, general focus to a far more specific one in criminal justice reform. In that, B. Hussein was only moderately better than Baby Bush, which I hold against B. Hussein and probably always will.

Continuing to watch this after work...

'and require American steel for American pipelines...in other words...they build a pipeline in this country...and we use the powers of government to make that pipeline happen...we want them to use.....American....steel"

C'mon righties! This is a multi-faceted assault on the Constitution and country you claim to so dearly love! Speak up! Cry out! Resist!!!

Ahhhh who am I kidding. The right has been outed by Trump as sanctimonious asshats spewing self-interested garbage. They don't have a principle in their body beyond "profit".

and are deep in the midst of negotiations on a very historic tax reee-form..to bring our jobs back...to bring our jobs back to this country big league...it's already happening but..big league

I'll give Donald the benefit of the doubt.

He's going to bring our jobs back.

But, with the tax burden shifted so far down the ladder it won't feel like it.

And with that...---- it. I can't stand transcribing this retarded chimp's speech patterns and I feel ill listening to him any long.

And that's only after 20 minutes of the speech...

#172 I tried reading the transcript this morning and had to stop, so I can understand not being able to read it and comment on it as well.

Full transcript: President Donald Trump's news conference

Good for Shepard Smith. I'm surprised he still has a job at Fox News.

That's mighty white of you.

You know, I've been thinking. If a black person calls another black person the n word, it is not considered racist. If a redneck or a cracker calls another redneck or cracker, a redneck or cracker, it's not considered racist. So, if a white person says to another white person, "That's mighty white of you." I don't think it can be considered racist either.

What a weepin' and moanin' fest this thread has become.

Here's the good news though, liberals. He's only president for another 1,442 days. Unless he wins reelection, that is.
