Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Thursday, February 16, 2017

Jon Schwarz, The Intercept: Late Tuesday evening the New York Times reported that current and former U.S. officials claim that members of Donald Trump's presidential campaign as well as other Trump associates "had repeated contacts with senior Russian intelligence officials" before the 2016 election. Donald Trump then spent the early morning Wednesday unhappily tweeting about this: "This Russian connection non-sense is merely an attempt to cover-up the many mistakes made in Hillary Clinton's losing campaign." If in fact all of this is "non-sense," Trump has the power as president to make that clear immediately -- by declassifying all government intercepts of communications between Russian nationals and anyone in his orbit. Trump has the power to declassify anything he wants, right now.

Why should he?

Burden of proof is on the lairs.

Why didn't the leakers leak the transcripts?

Either way it's a moot point.

Whichever way it goes the other side will just claim -------- if it doesn't fit their expectations.

I have always thought Russia had a nice national anthem. I didn't like the rock version posted here.

I really like the Israeli national anthem too. It reminds me of "Ave Maria" sung in the Catholic church, which is also a beautiful song.

Only if he fails to declassify all of the intercepts - which would be the case because how could we be sure?

If he pulls something like his tax return leak then you are spot on. And there is no way he would declassify anything that gives his opponents on the left or right ammo - so you are spot on again. Let's face it releasing ammo would be stupid to do on his part and lets face it - even Donald isn't that dumb.

On a side I thought G.W. was a bit slow for a President. He's a sighing light of intelligence compared to Trump. His folksy way of speaking even shines above Donald's irrational Tween way of talking.

"Why didn't the leakers leak the transcripts?"

From what has been reported, those who have or have seen the transcript said Flynn committed no crime.

There's no need to leak it since that is the case. However, Flynn did lie to the VP. That is why he resigned. And rightfully so.

That would be very illegal.

Here is the salient point of the whole NYT article.

"The officials interviewed in recent weeks said that, so far, they had seen no evidence of such cooperation."

What was all the chattering between the campaign and the Russians about? Nesting doll purchases? Tubs of caviar? Oceans of vodka?

At the risk of being obvious, if everything he did was legal why did he lie to Pence and the FBI about it?

This isn't about Flynn any more. As I posted before, Flynn is now the catalyst. That's why Trump needs to block the DOJ from digging deeper and silence the intel community for the same reason. His counterpunch to the intel community is to hire a bloodhound to investigate THEM. Although I'm not sure how any hired gumshoe could get the security clearance he'd need to do any REAL investigation. It seems more likely that Trump just got into one of his bluffs and bluster rants when he made that announcement.

I wonder if the NSA knows what foreign government was doing a little "interception" of their own. If that's true, Trump is now between a rock and hard place and subject to a little friendly blackmail himself ~ from within.

You know the old saying ~ "Oh what a tangled web we weave, etc. ect."
