Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Thursday, January 12, 2017

Donald Trump spent much of what was intended to be a press conference on his finances attacking news organizations for reporting on intelligence reports suggesting he might be compromised by Russia. The press conference had barely begun when incoming White House press secretary Sean Spicer decried BuzzFeed -- which published a 35-page document cited in the Russia report -- as a left-wing press organization dealing in fake news. Trump later called it a "failing piece of garbage," and said it would "suffer the consequences" for publishing the report.

BuzzFeed CEO Jonah Peretti defended editor-in-chief Ben Smith's decision to publish the report, which includes lurid sex allegations about Trump. Peretti said, "We stand with Ben on his decision to publish this newsworthy document, which was reported on by multiple news outlets and seen by high level government officials including the president and president-elect."

Describing Buzzfeed as a "failing" news organisation, Mr Trump states that it will "suffer the consequences" for releasing the alleged Russian dossier.

"As far as Buzzfeed which is a failing pile of garbage writing it, I think they're going to suffer the consequences, and they already are," he stated.

He then refuses to answer questions from Buzzfeed and CNN, branding them "fake news".

"I think it was disgraceful, disgraceful that the intelligence agencies allowed any information that turned out to be so false and fake out there," he said.

He called the dossier that makes salacious claims about him "fake news" and "phony stuff".

"I think it's a disgrace ... That's something that Nazi Germany would have done," the Republican said days ahead of his inauguration."

So, he is comparing US intel agencies to Nazi Germany?

Didn't he invoke Godwin's Rule? That means he lost this argument, right?

Trump: 'Buzzfeed will suffer consequences'

Now I wait for a buzzfeed list titled "14 ways your media outlet will suffer during the Trump Presidency"

The only consequence to buzzfeed's article is it's gained even more exposure and popularity.

Donnie sure has a grandiose opinion of his influence.

Hey Donnie, Americans didn't vote you into the White House. Empty swaths of land did.

Buzzfeed will likely end in a similar manner as Gawker, and nothing will be lost by their closure.

Well, technically, they would be melting down. At least some of them.

You believe Hulk Hogan is going to sue them for billions putting the company out of business?

What an odd prediction.

Clownshack, I wrote "similar manner..." not "the exact same circumstances which brought down Gawker."
LOL

What an odd prediction.

Not Hulk Hogan--his lawyers. Or Trump's lawyers. The irony, of course, is that Trump likes the National Enquirer and used some of their fake news stories on the campaign trail.

Everyone already knows CNN is fake news. However, Buzzfeed is just trendy and will put out anything that gets clicks, regardless if the data is substantiated or not. But CNN...wooooo, they are a trash heap so smelly nobody can even get close to knowing what is hiding underneath it.

BuzzFeed's YouTube videos are good. $27 cake vs $1120 cake, $80 tattoo vs $875 tattoo, etc. Until this happened I didn't know they had political news.

#36 | Posted by Bubba10 at 2017-01-13 01:26 PM | Reply

Buzzfeed has never been a serious mainstream news organization. It publishes fun stuff, often from the fringe. By calling it "fake news" the WH adds a level of seriousness and dignity to an otherwise fun frivolous site.

When BuzzFeed goes the way of Gawker, I will miss BuzzFeed's hard hitting sociopolitical commentaries such as "What type of potato are you?" and "what is your patronus?"

You can't be sued for Defamation for publishing an official government report.
