Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Wednesday, January 11, 2017

A controversial painting on Capitol Hill depicting a police officer as a pig was becoming the very definition of a political football Tuesday as Democratic and Republican lawmakers repeatedly passed it back and forth in a growing tit-for-tat. Democratic lawmakers tried – twice – to put the painting back on display after a GOP colleague took it down Friday amid outrage from law enforcement groups.

But every time they did, it was taken down again. Most recently, Rep. Dana Rohrabacher, R-Calif., took it down late Tuesday afternoon and brought it to the office of Democratic Rep. Lacy Clay, from whose Missouri district the picture came. Clay once again hung it up, saying he was "an expert at hanging artwork."

Rohrabacher called the painting an "insult to all police."

What a bunch of disgraceful, disrespectful morons. And you wonder why President Trump was elected. Thank God America is wising up. Less than two weeks to go...

America is wising up so much that a billionaire turned reality TV star was elected President of the United States, and this very same douchebag is now being blackmailed and manipulated by one of our nation's most powerful adversaries. Not very smart.

That said, the painting needs to come down. Yes, all politics is local, but giving GOP knuckleheads like Rohrabacher, R-Calif any reason to sound relevant is a mistake.

The Fox News model (charitable phrase on my part) is to take something small and amplify it to scale, so to speak. This is just another example.

Keep repeating your fake news talking points, Pinch. Trump forgives your feeble-mindedness and knee jerk partisan hatred, and asks you to pitch in with all of us and make America better. Less than two weeks to go to a newer, greater country, Pinch. Be there.

For a discussion about the painting:

A Painting Censored by GOP Lawmakers Deserves to Be Seen
A high school senior's painting of a protest scene has become the subject
of a controversy since it was hung (and removed, and re-hung, and re-removed,
and re-re-hung) at the US Capitol, but nobody is looking at it closely enough.

I said I think the painting needs to come down. Repeat that a few hundred times.

I'm not a Democrat and I don't hate police, moron.

Most cops are honorable and hard working, and just like anything else it's alway a few bad apples (combined with poor leadership) that gives them all a bad name.

So, why are all Republicans racist? Do even know anyone who is black? By the way, when Obama was first inaugurated back in 2009, what did you do with all those racist Obama emails that you got, did you forward them to your like minded friends?

The 2nd peron to take it down should have just put a foot through it. Problem solved.

Hanging such a thing in a government building reaches a Trumpian level of inappropriateness.

In order for good cops to turn in bad cops, you need to change the culture and that requires leadership ... leadership from elected officials at the local, state, federal levels and leadership in the police departments themselves.

And that's why "a few bad apples" isn't true. It might be a small number of cops who are guilty of the majority of flagrant abuses. But the vast majority of cops refuse to do enforce the law against other cops and usually, the families of other cops. They will readily lie in order to cover up horrible crimes if another cop is the criminal. If the price of being above the law means protecting truly sick peers, almost every cop is willing to pay it.

And the vast majority of police departments protect cops who they know to be criminals. Abuse of power is a systematic problem that the vast majority of police contribute to in one way or another. You can't participate in such an arrangement and then use the "few bad apples" defense.

That said, portraying them as pigs on government property is still a douche move.

This painting violates the rules of the contest to which it was submitted. For that reason alone it will come down and it's that reason that the GOP should cite when removing it for good.

By government property do you mean the streets of Ferguson where the police are standing or do you mean that an award winning painting that portrays some cops with wild boar heads is displayed in The Capitol for one year?

It seems it's you who are mistanken, first you show the 2017 entry guidelines, this painting was part of the 2016 competition.

The 2016 competition had the same "entry" guidelines, plus clear "suitability " standards which this painting runs a foul of.

It clearly doesn't belong there. Maybe if they had a painting that depicted the politicians as pigs feeding at the trough next to it I'd think differently.

#23 good find.

This is hilarious.
Moronically so.
The police aren't depicted as pigs.
They police aren't the only ones depicted as animals.
Apparently no one here bothered to find out what the truth is.
The Republicans - 4 of them so far - have illegally removed the painting.
The Republicans should be charged with theft, only because being enormous d-bags isn't criminal.

No, I didn't.

Suitability Guidelines

As outlined in these guidelines, the final decision regarding the suitability of all artwork for the 2016 Congressional Art Competition exhibition in the Capitol will be made by a panel of qualified persons chaired by the Architect of the Capitol. While it is not the intent to censor any artwork, we do wish to avoid artwork that is potentially inappropriate for display in this highly travelled area leading to the Capitol.

Artwork must adhere to the policy of the House Office Building Commission. In accordance with this policy, exhibits depicting subjects of contemporary political controversy or a sensationalistic or gruesome nature are not allowed. It is necessary that all artwork be reviewed by the panel chaired by the Architect of the Capitol and any portion not in consonance with the Commission's policy will be omitted from the exhibit. If an entrant is unsure about whether a piece of artwork is acceptable, he or she should contact the staff of his or her Member of Congress; the congressional staff can speak with personnel who can determine whether the artwork would be accepted.

It's a cheesy painting. Hardly offensive. Sides if cops wouldn't act like pigs there would be no painting to cry about.

#32 | Posted by LauraMohr at 2017-01-11 10:18 PM | Reply

The painting depicts one cop as a warthog, another as a horse (or so it appears), and the individual the warthog officer is challenging as a jackal.

The problem with Republicans and apparently some officers is that, being such delicate little snowflakes, they stop the moment they are offended by something and never see the whole picture. And that moves this painting from a picture to Art.

Apparently, since you brought up Obama by name.

You still don't think this is only towards Police do you?

I like this picture. I like the fact that the artist makes it clear that the majority of people are horrified - watching as animals on both sides cause trouble.

Don't you see it that way?
