Classified documents presented last week to President Obama and President-elect Trump included allegations that Russian operatives claim to have compromising personal and financial information about Trump, multiple U.S. officials with direct knowledge of the briefings tell CNN. The allegations were presented in a two-page synopsis that was appended to a report on Russian interference in the 2016 election. The allegations came, in part, from memos compiled by a former British intelligence operative, whose past work US intelligence officials consider credible.

These senior intelligence officials also included the synopsis to demonstrate that Russia had compiled information potentially harmful to both political parties, but only released information damaging to Hillary Clinton and Democrats.

This doesn't surprise me, I've been calling him compromised for a week or so. He should step down. I don't think top Republicans will let a candidate compromised by the Kremlin become our President.

The two-page synopsis also included allegations that there was a continuing exchange of information during the campaign between Trump surrogates and intermediaries for the Russian government, according to two national security officials.
Sources tell CNN that these same allegations about communications between the Trump campaign and the Russians, mentioned in classified briefings for congressional leaders last year, prompted then-Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid to send a letter to FBI Director Comey in October, in which he wrote, "It has become clear that you possess explosive information about close ties and coordination between Donald Trump, his top advisors, and the Russian government -- a foreign interest openly hostile to the United States."
CNN has confirmed that the synopsis was included in the documents that were presented to Mr. Trump but cannot confirm if it was discussed in his meeting with the intelligence chiefs.
The Trump transition team declined repeated requests for comment.

We have been wondering when this connection was going to be made.

I hear some of the pundits on TV saying that the majority of America just wants a normal inauguration, etc. If this story has the legs that it should have the majority of America will not be saying that by this weekend. Can anyone imagine Donald J. Trump taking the oath of office in front of the entire nation now? This applecart is going to get overturned. If Bush can go to the SC to shut down a recount then there must be a Constitutional remedy to prevent Trump from being inaugurate. I'm just saying that we can't have a compromised President, do you think that is arguable? I would fully support a thorough investigation but I would not support just a business as usual attitude about this. I am hardly being paranoid considering this information came from four of our most important intelligence agencies. If it came from National Inquirer you might have a point but it didn't so you don't. You can wait for hard fact but by the time you have the proof Trump will be President, will have cancelled the sanctions on Russia over Ukraine and Russia could be moving into other parts of Ukraine, Moldova and other NATO allies that Trump said he wouldn't defend. Trump has behaved throughout the election, in regards to Putin and Russia, as a compromised candidate would behave. Russia helped get him elected. Why? Sorry, it's not paranoia to suspect Trump of being the compromisted candidate and soon to be President that Russians have told us he is.

I think you underestimate the power of pretending that something is normal in spite of all evidence to the contrary.

The media should be all over this and there should be demands for a special counsel to investigate it. It's an allegation that was credible enough for it to be included in a briefing to the president-elect and another to the president. If it's reached that stage, there should be Congressional investigations.

But we'll see if any of that happens. There's a lot of momentum to inaugurate Trump and act like nothing's wrong, even though millions of us can see otherwise.

Fellow DR posters, do you see anything in that which could be construed to say that corporations are people? Realize too, the founders wanted very strict regulation of corporations, they had to have a single purpose and a time limit for their existence. They remembered the Great East India Tea Company and wanted no American corporation like that to be legal in the United States. There wasn't even a court decision that invented "corporate personhood." It was a law clerk who wrote it into the head notes on his own, he wasn't even a Justice.

What is happening is that Americans are waking up to the fact that Trump and his associates likely committed a series of crimes and misdemeanors to effect the election-at the behest of and with the assistance of the Russians.

It appears impeachable to me (and the story seems to be leading in this direction) that the Trump team worked hand in hand with the Russians in hacking (in various forms) and leaking information about the democrats and Clinton. This type of criminal behavior appears to be unparalleled in our history and we are only at the beginning of understanding the story here. There are the reported links to China that have not even been covered, there is the reported sexual indiscretions though sordid are of issue if the Russians can use them as leverage against the POTUS and most importantly there is a whole slew of relationships shady and corrupt going back years between Russia and Trump

To deny or equate this with something Obama did is stupid.

Imaginary transgressions of the Clintons Jeff. Nothing they ever did compares to what these memos indicate Trump and his team did, though they need to be verified. This episode is similar to REagan being uncovered as the treasonous bastard he actually was before he was inaugurated, or like Nixon being outed before he was inaugurated. The key will be ferreting out what's true and what isn't in the report. Some or most of the report could be false, but nuggets could be true. If nuggets are true, my guess would be that the report was leaked by Trump or Russia in an attempt to discredit all of it.
