A Houston man has been cleared of a drug charge after authorities realized he'd been arrested for possession of kitty litter. "They thought they had the biggest bust in Harris County," Ross LeBeau said. "This was the bust of the year for them." A traffic stop in early December led to the discovery of almost half a pound of what deputies believed to be methamphetamine. The deputies arrested LeBeau and sent out a press release, including a mug shot, describing the bust. According to authorities, the arrest was due to deputies finding a sock filled with what they believed to be methamphetamine. It was actually kitty litter that LeBeau kept in his car to reduce fog in his windows. After the arrest, LeBeau was fingerprinted and booked into a jail where he spent three days before being released. The problem came after two field tests, performed by deputies, came back positive for meth.

Only took 3 days? They're lucky, test results could take 30 days.

A certain connection back in my college days would hide his 420 in a ziploc bag in the middle of a bucket of Tidy Cat. I always thought it was the purr-fect hiding place.

lol. And so many of you assume a person is guilty of something just because they were arrested.

People have ended up in lock up for 30 days waiting on test results that showed what police assumed was a drug, was actually something totally innocent. Yeah, lucky, it could have been way worse for them.

They couldn't smell it was kitty litter? And guess what meth looks nothing like kitty litter. What the ... were the deputies on? I hate dumping that into the litter box because you can't get that smell out of your nose for hours.

So do these addicts snort kitty litter? Or do they inject it, the way they do the marijuanas?

My favorite stupid drug bust story was the police raid in Georgia on a supposed marijuana farm that all turned out to be Okra plants.

I've seen okra plants all my life, grow it in the back yard along with tomatoes every summer. You'd think being Georgia policemen they'd know the difference.

He's very lucky they didn't just fudge the test to show it really was meth. Lots of places he'd be on his way to the slammer for 20 years. Several years ago I know some Texas cops who claimed to have planted drugs on people they didn't like and sent them to the pen.

Texas.
Where field tests are set to always test positive.

Reminds me of events in Tulia, Texas years ago.
They gave that cop the "lawman of the year" award.

Or of the infamous Gypsum arrests:
"TWO AGGRESSIVE DALLAS COPS. ONE CONFIDENTIAL INFORMANT. HUNDREDS OF POUNDS OF COCAINE. FIFTY-THREE DRUG TRAFFICKERS BUSTED. SOUND TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE? IT WAS." (caps courtesy of the copy/paste from the article)
