Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

Mixed martial arts and UFC superstar Conor McGregor is one step closer to his dream clash with undefeated boxing legend Floyd Mayweather, Jr. Wednesday, receiving his boxing license to compete in the California. "Is it getting any close? I don't know, but it certainly wouldn't surprise me that it's going to happen," the Irishman's coach John Kavanagh said. Vegas oddsmaker Wayne Allyn Root said he believes a McGregor-Mayweather fight could generate up to $800 million in revenue and nearly $1 billion in betting.

Unless Mayweather throws it for the money, there is no way McGregor wins a pure boxing fight against a proven boxing champion.

Why would anyone want to pay to watch this?

Then again, it would give me a reason to root for Mayweather for once.

Agree. Connor would get smoked boxing. I don't see Dana white allowing this anyhow.

Sul,
I used to dislike mcgregor in the beginning but he's so entertaining, plus talented, that it works for me now. All he had to do was back it up.

His act gets on my nerves a little but what I dislike most about him is his desire to fight Mayweather. But being fair, the UFC pays these guys peanuts to fight like animals. He'll make more money getting knocked out by Mayweather than he would in a lifetime of UFC fights.

Plus I know both Diaz brothers are -------- but I like Nate Diaz and wanted him to beat McGregor. He reminds of the quiet, skinny dirtbag kid in high school who smokes in the bathroom and doesn't take crap from anyone.

I must right? Because all REAL men like watching closet homosexuals get nearly naked and roll around with each other in front of a cheering crowd.

UFC is awesome. For someone to impute 'homosexuality' to the combatants is just lame. UFC is as pure as it legally gets. Put two tough badasses in a ring, and let them fight it out with fairly limited rules to get in the way of determining which one is the bigger badass.

Yeah we could do that by putting 2 wounded lions in a cage as well. But we don't because we're civilized.

The rise of the UFC is directly correlated to the UN-civilization and stupid-ization of american society.

Triple G is the coolest boxer today. Golovkin is powerful and precise. With an unbroken streak of stoppages dating back to 2008, he holds the highest knockout percentage – 91.8% – in middleweight championship history. He is also said to have one of the best chins in modern boxing, having never been knocked down or knocked out in a total of 375 fights, neither as a professional nor amateur.

Combat sports are common features to virtually every society throughout history, especially dominant cultures. In "undeveloped" cultures they have in some cases developed to replace warfare and keep the societies alive because life has more value when people are hard to replace and knowledge is easy to lose. Some undeveloped societies don't bother because every day is a death match with nature.

I wouldn't call participating fun either. A professional does it for money, and they're scared while they do it.

Were you one of those kids whos parents stuck them in a BS martial art like kung fu when they were little? Where they taught you stupid myths like "fighting is not about fighting"? That went obsolete for a reason, it's fake.

If a kid gets involved in MMA type training, they would be productive in learning self defense as well as intangibles like discipline, sportsmanship, and perseverance... especially compared to a ------- kid sitting at home playing Call of Duty.

You just argued my point. Fictional violence is fictional. No one thinks it's real, but we're still too desensitized to it. But UFC is REAL violence, used as entertainment, for those dumb enough to find real violence entertaining.

Fictional violence is bad enough. We know that people like the columbine shooters got their violent fantasies from the glorification of violence in tv, movies, and video games.

But real violence being used as entertainment means more people are going to use real violence to entertain themselves. And putting violent combatants like MacGregor up on pedestals is going to make young men idolize and emulate that violence.

It's all just entertainment til some stupid rabid UFC fan knocks your kids' teeth out for saying the wrong thing or giving him the wrong look.

There are always going to be meatheads. You think "What you lookin at?" was invented after MMA? LOL

At least MMA gives them an outlet. They can go to a gym and spar and hit a bag and vent in a healthy way instead of pushing around other people.
