Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

Dana Milbank, Washington Post: Millions of would-be voters didn't participate because of obstacles designed to discourage them. The hurdles were, thanks to a 2013 Supreme Court ruling invalidating key parts of the Voting Rights Act, largely legal. So let's not get distracted by [Donald] Trump's fantastic claims of millions of illegal votes, nor by [Hillary] Clinton's search for a voting-system cyberattack that even the computer scientist urging the recount says has "probably not" occurred. Focus instead on the scandal that really is rigging American democracy.

In the short run, this makes tactical sense for Republicans. Democratic-leaning minority voters -- African Americans, Asian Americans and particularly Latinos -- are forecast to grow to a majority of the voting-eligible population at mid-century, from 31 percent today. By suppressing this vote, the effect of the demographic change can be delayed.

The Trump administration seems to be fine with holding back the tide. The man picked to be attorney general, Jeff Sessions, has opposed even legal immigration. And, according to a report this week by Scott Shane of the New York Times, Stephen K. Bannon, Trump's pick to be the top White House strategist, once mused to a co-worker that restricting voting rights of African Americans might not be "such a bad thing."

As usual, you have difficulty....

As it regards Cookfish, you could stop right there and remain perpetually correct.

Don't worry, guys. There's always that recount, right?

Not in an undemocratic system.

More speculative BS.

Did Milbank get his figures from the DNC like when he asked the Clinton campaign for their negative opposition research on Trump so he could use it to write a hit piece about Trump?

This guy is a mouthpiece for the Democratic Party.

"....has opposed even legal immigration. "

Like this hasn't happened before...

Chae Chan Ping v. United States

Justice Stephen Johnson Field wrote, "The power of the government to exclude foreigners from the country whenever, in its judgment, the public interests require such exclusion, has been asserted in repeated instances, and never denied by the executive or legislative departments."

Yeah sure Jeff. And pigs can fly too.

The election wasn't rigged. Had the Dems put forth a candidate who inspired voters we wouldn't be having this conversation. Hillary may have inspired some of her voters, but let's be honest, many just voted for her as a vote against Trump. Many others chose to spend their lunch break eating lunch, as opposed to voting for someone who wasn't worth losing a lunch break over.

Hillary Clinton's lead in the popular vote is still growing. It's well over 2,000,000 so your comment is just nonsense. It is very likely that the election results would have been quite different without Republican voter suppression. To pretend otherwise only fools yourself because it's the truth.

And the popular vote matters why?

Wanna compare how many states voted for each candidate?

And it's not because I support Trump-I thought HRC was a better candidate. But each state deserves equal representation when choosing a president. This country is called the United States of America. Not the State of America.

As usual, you don't have any problem believing pure BS.

All you sore loosers claimed, before the election. that there was NO SUCH THING as election fraud. You lost, get over it. You still want a trophy for voting?

#15 | Posted by Sniper at 2016-12-01 03:33 PM | Reply

DNC Dana is unhinged. He needs a big hug and a safe space to process his inability to help Hillary get elected.

#16 | Posted by CaseyJones at 2016-12-02 09:03 PM | Reply

You TrumpTards are all the same. It's rigged until your guy wins.
Hyprocrites!

#17 | Posted by aborted_monson at 2016-12-02 09:19 PM | Reply

Its definitely rigged. First and foremost, gerrymandering. Secondly, Rethug techniques for dumping young and minority voters from voter registration rolls. Lastly flipping outcomes with small changes in votes counts on computerized tallying systems, as being revealed repeatedly now in Wisconsin.

Voter suppression, a BS excuse. If people are too stupid and lazy to vote unless they are hand held through the process, then they shouldn't be voting anyways.

Most victims of Rethug voter suppression schemes don't find out what has been done to them until election day, when it is too late to do anything about it.

So if the voting practices, regulations were biased against lawful, hard working, law abiding white Christian Americans the policy is fully OK according to the racist media and elites. But not OK if they were biased against illegals, outsiders and felons. Truly the Party plank of the left that will ultimately sink into oblivion of racism just as the racist Democratic Party of the South did post Civil War. Dems are controlled by elites who are biased racists. They are for the few and against the many while pretending to be benevolent.

Freedom isn't free, you have to work for it. That means getting off your ass and getting to a polling booth, or going to the library, registering, and mailing in your ballot.

I though democrats were so-educated, yet millions that call themselves democrats are too stupid and lazy to figure out how to vote. Even redneck, hillbilly white folk can do that.

Funny coming from the guy who had a post deleted (dumped?) for antisemitism.

BTW, "if the voting practices, regulations were biased against lawful, hard working, law abiding white Christian Americans the policy is fully OK according to the racist media and elites" is typical, "Conservative" self-victimization ----.

You're no better than that racist, crazy wacko going nuts in the Chicago Michaels store.

In fact, I'm betting you won't see why the line quoted above oozes the very things Trump and his supporters are accused of.

And yet Hillary still won the popular vote.

Republicans only exist as an alternative party because A. we're stupid enough to maintain a two party system and B. there's enough stupidity in the electorate to maintain the two party system.
