Veterans gathered in Amherst, Massachusetts, Sunday to protest the removal of the American flag at Hampshire College. The college removed the flag on campus earlier this week following the presidential election results. School spokesman John Courtmanche said previously that while some students take pride in the American flag, for others it is "a powerful symbol of fear." Hampshire County District Attorney David Sullivan spoke at the protest and said, "We're here today to honor and respect our flag. Hampshire College, raise our flag!"

Maybe instead of taking down the flag they should have flown it at half mast.

Life is tough for these snow flakes, they are used to getting their way with fatherless families and moms who want participation trophies so no child will be left behind.

Thank fox news. They drove a wedge through the fabric of america by feeding half of us a pile of lies that sent them into a fictional alternate reality. This created president trump. That created a lot of decent people being disgusted by america.

Seems like the veterans are the snowflakes in this situation.

First, Amherst practices grade inflation, artificially boosting graduation rates for their institution meanwhile calling into question the integrity of their academic rigor. The $2.1 Billion dollar endowed, small liberal arts college (2,000 undergrad) should face DOE (and other grant providing govt orgs) sanctions for not flying a flag representing the nation which provides immense research and financial funding opportunities for the university and it's students.

Strike some of my above comment, the institution in question has been clarified as Hampshire College (lol, who?).

It would have been much more interesting if the alma mater of Calvin Coolidge (Amherst) was taking down the U.S. flag rather than a relatively new school (est 1970), which was formed as "an experiment in alternative education."

By "alternative education," I'm going to take the liberty to assume that Hampshire College gives their snowflake liberal arts students a hefty dose of socialist-authoritarian indoctrination alongside complementary lobotomies and cleansing wheatgrass© enemas.

Most Universities are Left leaning. For as long as I can remember, Hampshire College has made most universities appear right leaning by comparison. 'Nuff said.

Yeah, in the first sentence of the thread/article:

"Veterans gathered in Amherst, Massachusetts, Sunday to protest the removal of the American flag at Hampshire College."

Knee jerk reaction much?

Fly the thing upside-down. Vets understand the meaning. Folks in this country are already in distress. Those who hoped for change will soon realize the only change they will get is that found on a sidewalk...

When you have a Pres-elect who constantly demonizes and scapegoats major population groups of Americans, why should those Americans feel like as President, Trump will care at all about them?

Apparently it is politically incorrect to take down the American flag and politically correct to protest such actions. In general political correctness is a bad thing, but not in this case.

Oh got it.

So PC is bad when it limits YOUR speech, but it's good when it limits others' speech.

At least you're not hypocritical or anything.

Be careful, refuse to fly that flag and maybe the government that it represents may refuse to fund the institution. Yes, even private collages get federal funds. If you are really brave, a real SJW, burn an American flag in Texas. Remember it may be considered protected speech, but most courts here consider the act as unreasonable provocation. Which means if one of us red necks down here see you, you threw the first punch.

Are you trying to say that rednecks are so stupid that they can't control themselves and will physically assault people when a piece of fabric isn't treated the way they prefer?

#20 | Posted by SpeakSoftly, Which is more stupid? The flag is more than a piece of fabric, it is a symbol. Now if the SJWs were really brave they would desecrate a Koran, won't happen,(maybe because of the abundant passages preaching intolerance to gays, women and all non Muslims). Considering the number of brothers who were honored with that item on their caskets, I might have a different prospective.

Ah. So redneck americans have the same psychology as muslim extremists. Something I already knew, but it's nice to hear a conservative admit it.

Intelligent people don't get worked up about the desecration of magic objects or symbols.

They are paying for your Social Security and Medicare and Tax Cuts and Wars. You know, the stuff you didn't pay for.

On top of that, you screwed the economy. The average college student used to only have to work 5 hours per day at minimum wage to pay for school tuition. Now he has to work 18 hours per day. The average unskilled laborer could get married, buy a home and raise a family on one wage. Now, most people can't buy a home on two wages.

And yet these kids still volunteer 100 hours to your generation's 1. And then they pay to go to internships to work for your company for free. And all the while, student loan interest rates keep going up despite your generation making them impossible to discharge in bankruptcy. So that debt will follow them until they are about ready to retire.

So yeah, they are a bit pissed at the moocher generation.

Why am I not surprised that, yet again, the 'Murica! bleating moronic right is, yet again, the most likely to infringe on another's rights.

You folks are winding yourselves up so tightly with contradictions you might, with any luck, poof into singularities. Just please take Trump with you.

sorry killer, that's wrong. repeatedly smacked down by the courts, including Texas.
--In a 35-page decision, the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals ruled that a state law that prohibits anyone from damaging, defacing, mutilating or burning the U.S. or Texas flag "is invalid on its face because it is unconstitutionally overbroad in violation of the First Amendment" to the U.S. Constitution.Oct 7, 2015--

but you knew that, you're just a trouble-maker.
so next time get your facts and your hate for America on the same page.

Liberty needs special protection, not its symbol, the flag.
