Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Sunday, November 27, 2016

Top advisers to President-elect Donald Trump escalated their attacks on Mitt Romney on Sunday, catapulting their long-simmering frustrations onto cable news in an extraordinary public airing of grievances. In a series of interviews on the Sunday political talk shows, Kellyanne Conway, a top Trump aide, argued firmly against tapping Romney for secretary of state. The public Romney-bashing comes amid a behind-the-scenes battle for influence among Trump's top aides, with Conway and incoming White House senior strategist Steve Bannon arguing that former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, a Trump loyalist, is the best pick for secretary of state.

But some Republicans wondered aloud whether Conway's comments might be orchestrated by Trump himself as part of a campaign to embarrass Romney, noting Trump's penchant for headline-stealing public fights. Romney had called Trump "a con man, phony and fraud" during the campaign.

"Attacks on Romney not a solo act," Republican political commentator Ana Navarro, a vocal Trump critic, tweeted. "Trump coordinated payback/humbling."

This is all kinds of messed up. Conway and other top Trump aides could be making these arguments to him privately. Instead we're getting public in-fighting and disunity.

If Trump's inner circle is so dysfunctional during the transition that this is necessary to reach him, what's it going to be like when he's president and the pressure on all of these yahoos is much higher?

Sit back an enjoy the show. It's going to be a wild four years.

All smoke and mirrors controlled by Trump to distract an idiotic populace.

Focus on his scandals and ignore the controversies he drums up.

Good advice - his unwillingness to do anything to mitigate his conflicts of interest should be the biggest concern.

There truly is something mind-boggling about his campaign staff weighing in on the SoS decision, though. Campaigning and governing are supposed to be distinct activities, and Conway should not be weighing in on decisions that might shape policy.

I think too many of us have forgotten this guy is going to have the nuclear codes, these petty arguments among his closest advisors is dangerous. KellyAnne needs to be sent home, she is out of control and insane. If you haven't seen her "crazy eyes" then you haven't been watching.

Ana could be right. Would his advisers really be out there trashing Romney without Trump's consent?

"Would his advisers really be out there trashing Romney without his consent?"

Could be. They've done it before. But the the bottom line, of course, is Trump should tell them to shut the F up and keep their dirty laundry to themselves.

The other option is that anything coming out of Trump HQ can't be taken at face value. For all we know, Romney took charge and removed himself from the SoS decision and Trump is on one of his revenge kicks.

We have to keep in mind that the bar on Trump's moral compass is lower than we've ever had to consider. That means there is no depth too low or no conduct too infantile that can be written off. In Trump's case, abnormal is the rule ... not the exception.

The next four years is going to feel like 40 miles of bad road.

That's one of those "time will tell" things that JEFFJ based his vote on. ~ LOL

Personally I think Trump has his eye on a much higher achievement that we won't find out about until it kicks us in the arse.

You might never find out since I'd bet the first thing he does is get rid of the press pool.

TWINPAC +'REDIAL -

Good points.

I wonder if he will ever show up for anything even remotely resembling a real press conference.

What difference would it make anyway? Our new President of the United States is a pathological liar and a sociopath.

The investigative prowess of the Fourth Estate will have their job cut out for them these next four years.
