Even though all of us fight on here, we are still a sort of family. We live with each other through deaths and each other's accomplishments. Congratulatons Alex.

Congratulations! BTW, one of my daughters got married the day before yesterday. She and her fiance did it at the courthouse, no real ceremony up in Washington D.C. They've been together for a long time and are quite happy. I wish I could have been there but I'm glad for them anyway because they truly are a special couple.

When I look back on my first marriage, condolences would have been more in order for the announcement.

Congratulations. For a long happy marriage remember; When they say the two shall be as one, that she's the one.

Don't forget, you don't owe your inlaws ----. And when they show up to renege on a gift, tell them you traded it for some work done to the house, and to ---- off.

Congratulations, Alexandrite!

Advice from someone who has been married 23 years:

1. Don't feel like you have to suggest a solution every time she tells you about a problem she's having. Sometimes you're supposed to just express sympathy and listen.

2. In a disagreement, instead of telling her "stop doing X" say "when you do X it makes me feel Y." This is an unstoppable fighting move, particularly in couples therapy. Telling your partner not do to something is controlling. Telling your partner how their action makes you feel is much safer ground. I've found this works even when I'm completely wrong.

Congratulations, Alexandrite!

I agree with RCADE 100%

But have one question, is it a shot gun?

...this is basically what I came in to say, though I'd change it to USUALLY you're supposed to just express sympathy and listen.

*points* Listen to that man.
