Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

She was one of America's moms, a television icon that endured through generations. Florence Henderson, who played Carol Brady on The Brady Bunch, died Thursday from heart failure at the age of 82. Her death was unexpected. Henderson had not been sick, her manager, Kayla Pressman, said. Just this week, Henderson attended a taping of ABC's Dancing with the Stars to cheer on Maureen McCormick, who played her TV daughter Marcia Brady. "We are all in a state of shock," said Pressman, who spoke with the actress Wednesday night. Henderson died in a Los Angeles hospital surrounded by family and friends.

One of the all-time great TV moms, up there with Barbara Billingsley, Marion Ross and Patricia Heaton.

My kids loved the "Brady Bunch." I found it sort of stupid. Very bad acting, terrible writing, not funny. That said, RIP Florence Henderson.

One of the dumbest shows there was. Rather lame even in the eras standards.

"I tapped dat" - Greg Brady

I actually read the book where Barry Williams (Greg) made it sound like he dated Florence. It was pure exaggeration. She took him to dinner once with his older brother when he was 16 during the show's second season. Nothing happened.

A better Florence Henderson story is the one about how a one-night stand with the mayor of New York in the 1960s gave her lice:

I watched it every week, and thought the same thing. I only watched because Marcia was smoking hot. Like "One Day at a Time." Horrible show. But Valerie Bertinelli, rowr.

The bride and I were in LA many years ago, watching a pair of tapings of Politically Incorrect. Robert Reich and Pamela Anderson were part of the first panel, which led to a hilarious moment where Reich and Anderson were standing in front of each other, and she just grabbed his head and pulled him straight forward, which is to say right into her -----. He was quite happy about it, as I recall.

The second show's panel included Florence Henderson and Brian Warner, aka Marilyn Manson. The two of them starting flirting immediately. She was clearly impressed with his intellect, and he clearly still had a crush on her from his childhood. Their exchanges got hotter and randier as the show went on.

The bride and I were both convinced they were headed straight from the taping to the bedroom.

To be fair CBOB, TV was pretty crappy in the day. To tell my grandkids that the Munster or the like was prime time TV is pretty sad.

Whoa, Marilyn Manson and Mrs. Brady? Too freaky for words.

Yeah, Munsters was a bad clone of The Addams Family. But somehow it had its charms.
