Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Thursday, November 24, 2016

After the bitter presidential campaign of the past year, there's probably not much to be thankful for in our deeply polarized, antagonistic politics. But on a personal level as the publisher of the Drudge Retort, I'd like to thank the long-time regulars, new commenters and non-commenting readers who have kept this experiment in online news alive for 12 years (and counting). I hope that on Thanksgiving you and the family you gather with are happy and well. Feel free to use this discussion to share what you're thankful for. At least until somebody makes it political and it turns into a gobble squabble.

I appreciate being able to go to an awesome message board that allows me to say anything I want to say, with little or no restrictions.

And I'm thankful for that.

#5 People still don't know better? Frying a frozen turkey is like the alt-f4 of life.

I'm thankful that my MS remains in remission, for my family, for a job that is not currently economically feasible to automate, and for property values that have tripled the value of my house over 15 years.

I'm thankful FOR testosterone flowing through my body.

And food. I love food.

And this place - most of the time, anyway. :)

Thank you, RCade.

Happy Thanskgiving to you and yours - and to all the denizens of the D.R!

Boaz, nope in Wake County.

I was in Winston Salem for battle of the bands about a month ago. Meant to contact you but was way too busy of a day to meet up with someone. I spend a lot of time in Durham and Orange County for work but that is about as close as I get to Clemmons.

Even though we couldn't see eye to eye for much of this election, I'm thankful to RCade for creating this place where such disagreement is allowed.

I'm thankful that I have such amazing friends and family.

I'm thankful that my wife, who went full flat-line on me on August 9th, was around today to cook another fabulous Thanksgiving dinner. What she went through puts life in a completely different light.

Wasn't Thanksgiving when the pilgrims sat down to a feast with the natives and gave them polio blankets as gifts?

Oh btw, Trump thanks you for screwing over Bernie, Putin thanks you for believing RW propaganda against Hillary, and Hitler thanks for keeping his namesake alive and well in everyday conversation.

Actually RCADE, do appreciate your site, and it is always very interesting to listen to the 'other side' even if we vehemently disagree and screw with each other on a regular basis [which is the most fun of being here]. If you ever had to close it I do believe that the 'majority' of ue would miss it. Keep up the good work you libbie MF ;)

Thankful for this place. now i've rejected most of my friends and deleted social media, i still have the DR to read.

Feel free to use this discussion to share what you're thankful for.

The DR. :)

I had originally written a snarky post that I deleted after thinking it better to read the thread first.

After reading it, I realize I'm thankful that the petty things that make me mad/frustrated turn out to be not so big or worrisome when I get a good dose of perspective.

Even though I share some of the experiences others mention above they weren't as bad or problematic as the descriptions given.

I have a good job that I love, people who care about me and a community of crazy people to kick in the balls all day. All in all quite a bit to be thankful for.

Aw 😊, you're welcome!

Greatful for faith, family, friends, food, and football on this day.

Also thankful for the ReTort and the many folks which keep this online community colorful and zany on a daily basis. This web neighborhood was nice political catharsis during a turbulent and divisive election season.

With that said...

"May we all Make America Great Again in our own ways from now til the end of time!"

I'm still waiting for someone to tell me the date when America was last great. When was that Noles? Inquiring minorities want to know.

#35 | Posted by danni at 2016-11-25 09:26 AM | Reply

I'm still waiting for someone to tell me the date when America was last great.

It hearkens back to when American manufacturing, industry, and entrepreneurship was a powerhouse providing middle class incomes to Americans from coast to coast. Surely your inquiring minorities could appreciate earning a middle class income. Another aspect is that #MAGA aims to reduce US trade deficits with other nations to a lower degree, or possibly into a surplus, as decades of severe deficits will increasingly weaken domestic economics.

Bonus: There will also be a magnificent Great Wall of America which will stand through time as a Nation Monument and symbol of the strength and independence of the United States of America.

#36 | Posted by GOnoles92 at 2016-11-25 10:25 AM | Reply

It'll stand as a National Monument (if it ever gets built - lol!) alright, but not to our strength and independence.
Quite the opposite.

I agree with phoenix and all those who keep talking despite the disagreements and have to thank those people too, it is the beginning of diversity.
