Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Tuesday, November 22, 2016

Those of us in the opinion class have been complaining that Trump voters are post-truth, that they don't have a respect for expertise. Well, the experts created a school system that doesn't produce skilled graduates. The experts designed Obamacare exchanges that are failing. Maybe those of us in the professional class need to win back some credibility the old-fashioned way, with effective reform.

There will be plenty of time to be disgusted with Trump's bigotry, narcissism and incompetence. It's tempting to get so caught up in his outrage du jour that you never have to do any self-examination. But let's be honest: It wouldn't kill us Trump critics to take a break from our never-ending umbrage to engage in a little listening.

Listening is something the left rarely does as they prefer a monolog from them, as opposed to a dialogue. Guess that's why I find theis Retory refreshing as some of the lefties here will actually [sort of] dialogue.

You support a thief. Dialogue with him all you want. Maybe you can learn something about crime. I rather doubt for Trump's part he'll learn to be a better man.

It doesn't require any agreement with Trump to simply listen and try to actually understand what his policies entail.

It requires some faith that Trump is a sane man to do that.

Donald's mental state is going to be the elephant in the living room for a long. long while.

You don't have to think Trump is a sane man or even that he is the least bit truthful to stop and analyze any actual proposals submitted to Congress or quasi enacted through Executive Privilege. I guess what is bothering me is that currently much of the opposition to Trump is as vacuous as much of the rightwing opposition to Obama was when first elected. We are smart people. Let us not play the GOP game of being lemmings.

LM, I think it's time to move beyond obsession with HRC. She lost. She is old news. Focus on Trump. There is a lot to be very very concerned about.

I guess what is bothering me is that nearly half the population has no apparent ability to judge character.

Even good ideas from an evil man are suspect. Even a bad idea from a good man is worth some consideration.

My entire hope for the next year is that the country manages to get through it without a bloody nose.

If I see little reason to have faith bad things won't happen, that's Donald's fault. He's a low-grade comic book villain.

Let's try a little listening:

Trump: "The law's totally on my side, the president can't have a conflict of interest."

But during the campaign he said he wouldn't be involved in his companies. So Trump is a liar. Again.

"Just try a little listening for the next four years."

I'm sick of rich privileged white people like David Brooks telling us we shouldn't be in such a hurry to stand up against Trump.

That's easy for Brooks to say. He's insulated from most of the damage Trump can do. He's not a member of a vulnerable group under attack like a Muslim woman in hijab or an undocumented immigrant.

Only an ostrich would suggest a wait-and-see approach. Trump's selections of Stephen Bannon and Jeff Sessions and his Twitter distraction circus show where this is headed.

Trump's selections of Stephen Bannon and Jeff Sessions

I initially thought maybe he wouldn't be so bad what with his previous liberal leanings. I hoped once the campaign was over he might veer towards his roots.

Or perhaps he would go the route Hitler went when he first came into power of moderating the message while he built a consensus.

His selections to date seem to go against that hope, he seems to be driving straight for crazy town full speed ahead.

Trump is back pedaling on MMGW. He has condemned the white power types who tried the sieg heil for him. He has said HRC will not be prosecuted.

Point is, much of what scared people prior to election Trump is now backing away from. So, Rcade and Co. notwithstanding, let's wait, listen and see what he actually does.

If the brown-coats don't start rounding people up will you admit you were wrong?

It's funny to me that you are SO concerned about Sessions but were totally cool with Holder.

The problem is Holder set a precedent that Sessions can follow, should he choose.

I'm judging Trump and his racist top appointees by what they've already said they would do.

Has the idea ever occurred to you that Trump's word means as little now as it did during the campaign, so he could reverse himself again and still do all the awful, bigoted, anti-democratic and outright fascist things he vowed to do once he takes power?

It's amazing that so many people here are effectively saying "trust him because he was lying."

Like lambs to the slaughter.

The left is so weak and feckless. Mike Pence had it right.

They're pulling the same tricks with the same people and the left is calling for everyone to roll over. It's not even history. It's just 8 years Ago this all failed. It's failing in Kansas right now. Everything we have about Obama and Hillary are RW ideas.

Pathetic bunch of losers deserve it all.
