Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

Tulsi Gabbard is willing to go out on a limb. The Democratic U.S. congresswoman from Hawaii was one of the first Democrats to support Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, and now she is one of the first Democrats to meet with President-elect Donald Trump. Gabbard met with Trump and Vice President-elect Mike Pence on Monday morning, but Trump spokesman Jason Miller said it was "premature" to discuss Gabbard's potential role in the Trump administration. She is a noted opponent of the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade deal, and was part of a rally on Capitol Hill on Saturday to protest the deal that is supported by Barack Obama.

Gabbard did not join the majority of her Democratic colleagues in the House by co-sponsoring gun control legislation this summer. She was one of 47 Democrats who voted in favor of a Republican-sponsored bill that requires refugees from Iraq and Syria to receive background checks from the FBI.

Gabbard, who voted for Hillary Clinton, was a write-in candidate for vice president among dissenting backers of Sanders who refused to vote for Clinton or Trump.

The Democrat was elected to the Hawaii legislature at age 21 and stepped down from her post to serve two tours of duty in Iraq. Gabbard worked in local politics after leaving active duty and is in her second term in Congress. She is one of two female veterans to serve in Congress and is the first Hindu member.

Go Gabbi. She would be a great addition to President Trump's team.

If Tulsi Gabbard provides bipartisan cover to Trump she can kiss her future prospects in the Democratic Party goodbye.

Rcade you are wrong about that. America rejected hardcore partisan politics that does not serve the people. People want bi-partisan politicians. Working to reject TPP is a great start.

What's not to like about Gabbi? She's hot, she's a Hindu, a surfer, a veteran, and about 70 years younger than Elizabeth Warren. The Dems would be crazy to let her get away. But they probably will, being experts in snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

As Obama said, Trump is not ideological, but pragmatic.

He does not care what party you identify with as long as you want to Make America Great.

I get the feeling that Dems are starting to panic.

This is a myth. He's putting right-wing ideological hacks all over his future administration.

You're the Democrat Party and have a thin, aging bench. You need new talent. Who do you groom? Chelsea Clinton? Or this woman?

This conversation isn't about Trump, this is about the pathetic state of the Democratic Party. God forbid that a real progressive has a conversation with the upcoming President to perhaps disrupt the Democrat Self Flagellation Tour of 2016.

Overreact much? My comment was about what would happen if she joined the Trump administration, not just talked to him.

Members of Congress, she said, must acknowledge "the mandate by the people, which is ... ‘We don't care so much about the labels that have been used to divide the Congress and to divide the country.' We need to set all that stuff aside and focus on working together, really. And when you look at great leaders from the past and you look at the dynamics of having 435 people here in the people's House, the only way to make progress and get things done is if you can work together so that's what needs to be done first.

There were Republicans who served for Obama's administration. An example of a Republican who served for Obama which comes immediately to mind is Jon Huntsman jr, who later attempted a run for the GOP presidential nominee in 2012.

If Dems blacklisted Rep. Gabbard for possibly serving with Trump's administration it would be another example of the DNC shooting their party in the foot.

It would all depend on in what capacity she serves and what she is required to do in the name of a Trump administration. If her duties require her act in progressive ways, no harm would come to her support within the Democratic party. If she backs and carries out policies that aren't progressive, she'll be seen as a sellout and an opportunist, and in that case sayonara.

There were Republicans who served for Obama's administration.

Obama isn't Trump. Don't pretend there's any equivalency between Obama winning two elections with normal political rhetoric and Trump winning with divisive racist hate.

Any Democrat who joins Trump is not going to win politically with Democrats in the future.

If Dems blacklisted Rep. Gabbard for possibly serving with Trump's administration it would be another example of the DNC shooting their party in the foot.

Stop pretending you know or care what the DNC needs. It's as fake as Trump's tan.

Divisive racist hate? You mean like that which the Democratic Party supporters are taking part in after Trump won the election?

You know, when they say:

1. Black that voted for Trump are uncle Toms and/or not true blacks
2. When they say that Latinxs that voted for Trump are actually whites in disguise?
3. When they say that women who voted for Trump are self loathing misogynists?
4. When they say that the Muslims who voted for Trump are traitors and destined for hell?
5. When they say that Democrats who voted for Trump are turncoats and idiots?
6. When they say Democratic Representatives who want to work with Trump are ending their career, opportunist, and anathema to the party?

Just look around. Only the Dems are dividing currently. Even Sanders recognizes that the Democrats have been dividing people by race, religion, gender, etc. through identity politics and must stop doing so.

Democrats are the party of identity politics and racial division. Face it, they are and they lost because of it.

What the hell happened there?

Anyway, yes, some Dems are playing stupid identity politics, and Bernie had some great comments about this. Most Dems I know are more in line with Bernie, for whatever that's worth (and no, I don't mean they're Bernie Bros who hate women blah blah blah).

She needs to be punished, 'Cade! Harsh punishment, that's the "progressive way, right? Organize a huge protest for her house tonight. Maybe you can start some kind of boycott....But whatever it takes, make sure she's SEVERELY punished for leaving the plantation!

"Obama is saying the things a president is supposed to say after his successor is chosen."

I feel like he's going to be a major pest for the nation forever, the narcissist S.O.B. No class...certainly not like Carter, Bush 41 and Bush 43. He'll travel the world bashing his successor, the GOP and the United States.
