The Washington Redskins won their last home game before the 2016 presidential election, meaning that Hillary Clinton and the Democrats will stay in power. As discovered by Steve Hirdt of Elias Sports Bureau, the "Redskins rule" says that if Washington wins the last game before the election, the current party stays in power. If the team loses, the White House switches parties. This tongue-in-cheek rule has correctly called 17 of the last 19 presidential elections, dating back to the team's relocation to Washington in 1937. It called every election between 1940 and 2000 correctly, failed in 2004, succeeded in 2008 and failed again in 2012.
