Charles Krauthammer: That [Donald] Trump crashed because of a sex-talk tape is odd. It should have been a surprise to no one. His views on women have been on open display for years. And he'd offered a dazzling array of other reasons for disqualification: habitual mendacity, pathological narcissism, profound ignorance and an astonishing dearth of basic human empathy. To which list Trump added in the second debate, and it had nothing to do with sex. It was his threat, if elected, to put Hillary Clinton in jail. After appointing a special prosecutor, of course. The niceties must be observed. First, a fair trial, then a proper hanging ... Such incendiary talk is an affront to elementary democratic decency and a breach of the boundaries of American political discourse.

Such incendiary talk is an affront to elementary democratic decency and a breach of the boundaries of American political discourse. In democracies, the electoral process is a subtle and elaborate substitute for combat, the age-old way of settling struggles for power. But that sublimation only works if there is mutual agreement to accept both the legitimacy of the result (which Trump keeps undermining with charges that the very process is "rigged") and the boundaries of the contest.

The prize for the winner is temporary accession to limited political power, not the satisfaction of vendettas. Vladimir Putin, Hugo Chavez and a cavalcade of two-bit caudillos lock up their opponents. American leaders don't.

One doesn't even talk like this. It takes decades, centuries, to develop ingrained norms of political restraint and self-control. But they can be undone in short order by a demagogue feeding a vengeful populism.

Just because you say it does not mean it is true. Petraeus committed a MUCH more severe crime (he had information which he knew was classified and knowingly gave it to someone who was not authorized to have it) as contrasted with Hillary (no proof she knew that the information was classified, she should not have been receiving classified information over unsecured email anyways regardless of whether it was a personal or state department server; and she did not knowingly give information to anyone who was not authorized, and there isn't actually proof that unauthorized persons ever got it).

Petraeus got house arrest and a fine? No jail time. Even if the government threw the book at her to make an example out of her (which would be contrary to the idea that she should be treated like anyone else), looking at precedent the worst she would get is a fine. No jail time.

Whether or not you support Trump, you are acting just like he is. You are advocating using the justice system to jail your political opponents on trumped up (pun not intended) charges. That is unAmerican and unconstitutional. You are just like all the other Republicans who only care about winning, even if it damages our country.

What I said is that both these people (Hillary and Trump) are criminals and should be in jail. I have no political opponents becuase I don't root for a political party as if it were a sports.

What I am advocating is that criminals be punished in accordance to the law. Feel free to disagree with that. But save your stupid strawmen.

Charles Krauthammer is infamous for condoning the use of torture, but talking about locking up Hillary is considered "odious" and "incendiary" to him.

The constant wheeling out of his miserable living corpse out in front of a national audience every other day for the past decade just so he can pretend he is some sort of earnest and sincere pundit when he makes these sort of holier-than-thou pronouncements shows the true state of the mass media in this country.

Now Trump is being charged with crimes, but fraudsters rarely go to jail and sexual assault charges are very difficult to prove.

If people want to discuss ideas, I'm ready. But that's not what happens anymore here. Almost every disapproving repsonse these days includes some kind of strawman. And usually and insult. A strawman is just a cheap lie.

If people want to try to insult and lie about me, I'm not going to be nice about it.

I called for Trump to be jailed in this thread, but here you come waddling in claiming that my problem with Hillary is a "Trump crush". Just another stupid strawman that makes you look like an idiot who can't read.

Furthermore, do you not see you're own hypocrisy in trying to take me to task for insluting Doc, when I was merely repsonding to him in the only way he ever communicates with anyone else on this site?

If you people don't want me to call you idiots who can't post without using strawman and contradicting yourselves then stop posting strawmen and acting like hypocrites. Make an actual point that addresses what I actually said and save your insults and I will respond in kind.

What's in it for you? What's your cut of the $250 million she raked in as Secretary of State? You support corruption in the name of subsidizing your health insurance?

Give us a break. She hasn't been indicted because of her connections.

I can see not getting it before Obama changed the ways in which the Justice Dept and FBI operate to save her.

But to say this AFTER that charade played out in public is ridiculous. (BTW, he really tarnished his legacy with those moves too, just disgusting)

She was caught red handed selling influence with the Rajiv Fernando incident.

She was caught red handed circumventing the Freedom of Information Act and mishandling classified material when the private server was discovered.

She has been caught violating the Federal Records Act.

Those are four definite crimes right there just based on publicly available facts. Does the fact that she hasn't been indicted mitigate any of these circumstances? Of course not.

Saying I have nothing after I gave you four examples that you have yet to comment on is just a lie. And I did site two actual laws broken - Federal Records Act. Freedom of Information Act.

Also, do you think selling positions on nuclear commisions is legal? Do you need the law cited before you can figure out that it is illegal? How foolish one must portray themselve as being before he can defend Hillary?

And the FBI isn't supposed to "charge" anyone either. It is supposed to report facts to the Jsutice Department, who decides whether to file charges.

Obama changed that process specifically in this case for no other reason than to protect Hillary. And it was done openly. So referencing the FBI not charging her without acknowledge the blatant irregularities involved doesn't mean much.

So here you are again calling me a "loon" while I'm the only one making rational arguments in defense of my position. Lying and saying I have nothing after I gave you exactly what you requested is also pretty dumb.

*Took a leading role in the investigation of health consequences of first responders and drafted the first bill to compensate and offer the health services our first responders deserve (Clinton's successor in the Senate, Kirsten Gillibrand, passed the bill).
*Was instrumental in working out a bi-partisan compromise to address civil liberty abuses for the renewal of the U.S. Patriot Act.
* Proposed a revival of the New Deal-era Home Owners' Loan Corporation to help homeowners refinance their mortgages in the wake of the 2008 financial disaster.
*Was a major proponent of sensible diplomacy which brought about a ceasefire between Hamas and Israel, and brokered human rights with Burma.
*Oversaw free trade agreements with our allies such as Panama, Colombia, and South Korea.
*Was the most traveled Secretary of State to date.
*The Clinton Foundation, founded by her and her husband, has improved the living conditions for nearly 400 million people in over 180 countries through its Initiative program.

These are not all of her accomplishments. Her activism on behalf of women a children across the world is renowned. Her activism for raising the minimum wage and combating climate change is stellar. You do not have to support what she does or stands for. But do not say she doesn't have any accomplishments.

I was just listening to Michael Medved and his guest said Clinton surprised many on the right by working constructively with old-guard Republicans like Lindsey Graham and John McCain when she was elected Senator.

Nobody else in the race can claim anything close to that level of experience.

It wasn't quite clear to me if Sully was able to grok why "lock her up" talk is a danger to the democratic process. I guess he wasn't, though. Because right here in #7, he's clearly intimating that she is a criminal, despite no trial, no convictions.

What I am advocating is that criminals be punished in accordance to the law. Feel free to disagree with that.

I'm willing to bet, more will be revealed about Trump before the election. Hillary will win. And life will, most likely, maintain the same trajectory.

You raised the point - the issue of experience, accomplishments. Your objection was responded to by multiple posters.
You have offered no reason to vote for Stein except "Newsworthing" a Sully post about Stein not being a "garbage fire" (#92).

You can't articulate a reason for Stein. That's fine. Just stop pretending you're more informed or you've better reasoned your decision. You aren't and you haven't.

Snoofy said Supreme Court.

You couldn't muster a thing.

Remember KBM. He/She always posted counter links in every thread. In lieu of an actual argument.

Anyway. Like I said. The point is moot. Hillary has the nod from those who matter. And both republicans and democrats are voting for her.

#25 | POSTED BY SULLY

I agree with SULLY. The DR has a real issue with people projecting positions upon other posters and presenting strawman arguments as though they fit the context of a given poster's retort. It wastes readers' time in trying to parse through a decent debate/conversation. And let's not forget that's the point here: discuss and debate. There are smart people here whose opinions I value greatly, regardless of whether I agree or not. But many discussions between these smart folks get bogged down with -------- because some arguments address points that the opponent poster never made. It's just lazy, really.

Although I must say, the projection against me (a third party voter) has been strikingly less around here since the end of the summer. What gives, trolls?

She's got nothing of merit to boast. She's a weak candidate. Her whole campaign is based on "Vote for me or you're stuck with Drumpf."

#137 | POSTED BY CLOWNSHACK

While I'd argue with you about what she brings to the table experience-wise, I agree with most of what you said. She probably rates just above Tricky Dick Nixon in the "who would I ask to hold my wallet while I went swimming" vote. That's still light-years ahead of Mr. T.

If the GOP had chosen Kasich or even Rubio, she'd be toast. Which shows you just how bad Drumpf really is.

Other than "not being Hillary", he has absolutely NOTHING to offer as President, beyond a fantasy Wall, the torture of women and children and 30,000 troops in Syria(at a minimum, we don't know what his secret plan is. Nor does he). Something, something about trade (if you are dumb enough to trust him AND if we skip the whole silly Constitution), a renewed war on women's health choices, more debt and a unicorn delivered health care system. And his morals make Ken Starr want to apologize to Bill Clinton.

Bottom line, both candidates suck, but only one is ------- crazy. I'll take slimy and smart over slimy and crazy any day.

And before you toss out Jill Stein's name, get real. If she gets .5%of the vote it will be a milestone for the GP. She simply ain't in it. Gary Johnson? Free trade, with none of those silly environmental or labor regulations, the end f clean air and clean water and a free machine gun with every fillup. Legal dope? Only if your State says so. If they want to behead you for smoking dope, he's down with that.

The bottom line, at least in the real world, Hillary or Donald will be getting sworn in on January. Which one, and its going to be one of them, do you prefer?

You couldn't muster a thing.

Others chimed right in and met the request. I genuinely thought that would suffice.
I've also posted numerous times why I am voting for Hillary.
Here's a sample:

I'm for Hillary Clinton because she's demonstrated a lifelong commitment to helping people, particularly children and our veterans.
I'm for Hillary Clinton because she managed to get the most iron clad range of sanctions against Iran I've seen anyone put together.
I'm for Hillary Clinton because she stood there in China and said "Women's rights and Human rights."
I'm for Hillary Clinton because she is tenacious and unflappable.
I'm for Hillary Clinton because I agree with almost all the positions she's put on her website. Not all of them, but a LOT of them.
I'm for Hillary Clinton because of the Supreme Court of the United States.

And it goes on and on, before I even get to the issue of Trump.

All this still ignores Hillary is power hungry and willing to sell out the middle class.

Plus she'll continue the wars in the Middle East.

Which most people seem to ignore are ongoing.

#170 | Posted by snoofy at 2016-10-14 08:19 PM | Reply | Newsworthy 2

What some clowns are ignoring is that either Trump or Clinton will be Pres and Stein will not.

Then they ignore that Trump wants 30k troops in the ME and keeps asking generals why he can't use nukes there. And that Clinton has much of Bernie's policies onboard, including taxing the one percent and college funding, not to mention not using Scalia as a role model for SC justices as does Trump.

Pretending that she is just as bad, or worse, than Trump is nonsense. As is helping Trump by not voting for her. Voting is a civic duty to vote in such a way as to best help the country, not a feel good exercise.

On top of her money grubbing criminality, her love of needless violence makes her every bit as bad as Trump. She's going to win because she's at least capable of presenting herself as less than a lunatic. But her record is putrid and amoral.
