Auston Matthews delivered an NHL debut for the ages on Wednesday, scoring four goals for the Toronto Maple Leafs. The 19-year-old from Scottsdale, Arizona, chosen first overall in June's NHL draft, scored on his first three shots against the Senators, with the hat trick prompting visiting Leafs fans at the Canadian Tire Center in Ottawa to throw hats onto the ice. He scored a fourth, becoming the first player in modern NHL history to score that many in his debut. "You don't really draw it up like that," he told Sportsnet after the game.

You know why Hamilton will never get a professional hockey team? Because then Toronto would want one. Same reason Lansing will never get a professional football team. It'd make Detroit jealous.

Good for the kid! His play in the first game won't change the fact(s) that the TB Lightning will be taking home the Stanley cup this year ;).

At this moment the Red Wings are sending them home empty-handed.

I caught the first two goals on NHL Center Ice, which has games for free at the start of the season. He's incredibly fast and creative.

The Red Wings have become increasingly hard to watch, and it REALLY pains me to admit that. Larkin is potentially a budding star and that's about it. They have nothing exciting to watch especially with Datsyuk self-deporting back to Russia. It's been a slow-burn ever since Lidstrom retired.
